have, a big variation in the temperatures which is why we've broke tonight down neighborhood by neighborhood. the temperatures each day change. that's why we have the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen. we're starting off 50 degrees in philadelphia. look at south jersey, 37 degrees right now. delaware and the lehigh valley have dropped into the 40s. you can see the skies are starting to brighten up in the lehigh valley. easton, nothing but sunshine. 49 degrees now. 53 by 8:00. and by 11:00, look at the warmup, near 707 degrees. we topped out in the 70s near philadelphia yesterday, 73. we will exceed that today. it will be a fairly quick warmup, 52 degrees at 7:00. 66 by 10:00 this morning. and sunny skies will warm up the entire area today. we're looking at high temperatures, up to 80 for the lehigh valley and delaware. south jersey near 80 degrees at the shore. we'll see a bit of a sea breeze kick in this afternoon. 68 degrees there. look at the temperatures, a

beautiful day ahead for the pennsylvania suburbs and for philadelphia, too. we'll go into each neighborhood with the forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. right now, let's check in with jessica boyington, see how things are looking trafficwise. we're watching 76 over on gloucester city right around market street, this part of 76 is over in new jersey. right here we are approaching the walt whitman bridge or the ben franklin bridge. that's where you split off to either bridge to head to philadelphia. no problems or delays right now, of course. a lot of folks starting to head out the door as well. here's philadelphia, some construction there. walnut lane is closed between park lane drive and henry avenue. that's ongoing till september. that's something you want to add into your morning commute plans. here's 78 on lehigh street around the lehigh valley. we'll check in with area bridges when i'm back in the next couple of minutes. this morning in philadelphia, two men are in custody and one officer in the

hospital after he confronted them during a car break-in. we have live team coverage. katy zachry2is live in university city with more on the officer's conditions but we'll start with how it happened. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in west philadelphia with more on that. >> reporter: vai, things have considerably calmed down, a few hours ago there was a lot of activity over there at 59th and market where all of this went down. we were over there a couple of hours ago. i can tell you, the scene is pretty much clear. take a look at this video, this is video from the scene here. police are telling us just before 9:00, two officers were flagged down by a woman who said two men were breaking into her car. they approached the men, but they tried to run away, officer mccollough tried to tackle him and was shot in the leg. both suspects were caught a short time later. here's the mayor and police

commissioner talking about what happened. >> dangerous city and a lot of guns out there. get guns off the street and make sure that our officers are safe. our citizens are safe. we're in good shape. he's in good shape. hopefully he'll be okay. >> this was an instance when someone flagged them down. this is what they do. it's a dangerous job but they do it with pride and professionalism. we're very proud of them. and this by the way happened just a couple blocks away from where officer jesse hartnett was shot in an ambush-style attack just a couple months ago. there were people in this area at the time this was all going down. we'll hear from a witness coming up at the top of the hour. live outside the 18th district, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. officer mccollough was shot in the leg. nbc 10's katy zachry is live in university city following his condition. what can you tell us? >> reporter: rosemary, the last update we got from police is that officer james mccollough is

here at the hospital in stable condition. he is expected to be okay, to make a full recovery. philadelphia mayor jim kenney and police commissioner richard ross as well as other top brass spoke to us outside the hospital not long after seeing officer james mccollough here at penn presbyterian hospital. he has one gunshot wound to the left thigh. they are expecting him to be okay. the 24-year-old has been?xp philadelphia police officer for the last two years, assigned to west philadelphia. his mom and fiance met him here at the hospital last night. the outcome for officer mccollough might be very different this morning if he hadn't had the wherewithal to apply first aid to himself. >> it's important to point out that he applied a tourniquet himself because he was bleeding profusely. and his partner went to his aid and brought him to the hospital. >> reporter: commissioner richard ross went on to praise officer mccollough's partner for keeping his whits about him and

party at xfinity live. that's some place you can check out the game tonight with other fans. there may still be a chance for you to get tickets to wednesday night's game. reporting live at the wells fargo center, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> we have clear skies this morning. the temperatures have been cooling down. for this time of year, on the mild side in philadelphia, 50 degrees. your forecast scrolling at the bottom of your screen. for today, what's ahead is a huge warmup. starting at 507, 61 degrees by 9:00. look at that 3:00 temperature, pushing toward the 80 degree mark. philadelphia won't be the only spot to see the big warmup during the day today. the pennsylvania suburbs, 55 right now. 73 degrees by 1:00 this afternoon and still climbing. and in the lehigh valley, a little bit of a chill in the air, not too bad.

49 degrees. 11:00, temperatures 67. 76 by 3:00 this afternoon. south jersey, same story. brilliant sunshine during the day. we're less than an hour away from sunrise. we'll see nothing but sunshine and look at the quick warmup, 40 degrees right now. near 70 by 11:00 this morning. and topping out near 80 degrees this afternoon. at the shore, a little bit different story. we'll get to see the similar warmup to begin the day. 57 at 9:00. by 1:00, 67 degrees. look at the winds. a northerly wind becomes more easterly, coming in off the ocean. that's dragging in the cooler air. the ocean is still chilly, right around 50 degrees. that's a significant warmup in spite of that breeze. the winds not all that strong. 6 miles an hour this afternoon. looking ahead, delaware will see a big warmup by this afternoon, 75, while it's 44 degreq#h)ight now. at the shore, the next five days, the temperatures will be coming down, the chilliest day

will be wednesday. you'll see the numbers fall for the philadelphia area to 66 degrees. the winds tomorrow shifting and becoming stronger. that will start the cooldown. it's right back into the 70s on thursday ahead of a chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms at the shore. that's on the five-day forecast. there's the seven-day when i come back. the ten-day outlook and chances for rain over the next ten days. 5:40 on this monday. i got up and was thrilled that vine street was open. >> that's what you take every morning. >> straight shot to 76. >> let's check in with jessica. >> still open, rosemary. they just surprise us with it being closed out of nowhere for a few days a week and they stop doing it again. it's a present every time you wake up we're looking at a lot of cars s traveling on the vin street expressway. this is around 8th street.

of the region is going to warm close to 80 degrees this afternoon. the weather differs area by area. we've broken down our region into six different zones. you can find the seven-day for each one of those zones at the bottom of the screen anytime i'm on the air. philadelphia is at 50 degrees, south jersey at 37 degrees. some of the suburbs have cooled down into the low 40s. chester heights at 41 degrees, 42 for north wales. look at ft. washington at 38 degrees. you can see 50s in there, too. we're getting a cool morning but not a cold one for most spots. sunrise coming up at 18 past the hour. we'll see nothing but sunshine during the day today, giving us a summer preview, brilliant sunshine, nothing but blue sky today. and this evening, the temperatures will stay elevated. a mild night tonight. if you're heading out, you probably won't need a jacket. more likely to see people

wearing shorts this afternoon. 55 degrees in philadelphia at 8:00 this morning. by 4:00 this afternoon, 79 degrees. look at the warmup for the suburbs. 71 at noontime. 778 degrees at 4:00 this afternoon. the lehigh valley getting a cool start of 53 degrees. by noontime, 71 degrees and still climbing. delaware and south jersey and the shore, here's where you'll see variation. everyone starting off with pretty much the same element. sunshine for each of the locations. by noontime, 70s for delaware and south jersey. by this afternoon, a sea breeze is going to keep the jersey shore a bit cooler. that's today. no sign of any wet weather. no clouds for our area. that will change because of this. that's a cold front that's going to be moving our way at the end of the week. with it the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. you can see by late wednesday, those showers and thunderstorms

four minutes before 6:00. a new chapter begins today for a school in montgomery county. cheltenham school district officials take part in a ground breaking ceremony for cedarbrook middle school located on longfellow road. the school has been vacant for more than two years now after the district closed it because of problems with mold. the school will be rebuilt from the ground up. it's set to re-open in september of next year. families facing difficult challenges got to set their cares aside for a brief moment yesterday. >> the spirit of philadelphia hosted its annual cruise for families with children battling serious illnesses. it's a partnership with the kelly ann doyle fund. one parent said it's something
