nbc 10 news starts now. right now on "nbc 10 news today," teaming up to take down trump. ted cruz and john kasich form an alliance to keep their fellow republican from securing the nomination. philadelphia is in the prime time spotlight ahead of tomorrow's primary. and president obama announces he's sending more troops to syria to fight isis. it's 6:00 a.m. 48 degrees outside. welcome to monday.

good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema. let's get right to nbc 10 first alert meteorologist bill henley with the neighborhood forecast. bill, you'll be consistent through most of the neighborhoods with the weather. >> it will be nice and sunny for most of the neighborhoods, absolutely. a few scattered clouds at times. we're seeing that this morning. scattered clouds in jersey. the suburbs, plenty of sunshine to warm temperatures from the 40s to the 70s this afternoon. same story in delaware, cool to start with, 49 degrees. a look at the warmup. 9:00, 58 degrees, upper 60s by lunch time. sunshine with mostly clear skies to start with. we'll see a big warmup for philadelphia. 65 degrees. that's by 11:00 this morning. so stand by for warm afternoon to boost our temperatures, warmer than what we saw all weekend. 77 degrees for philadelphia. the cool spot will be south jersey at the shore. 62 degrees this afternoon. but you'll see lots of sunshine

there, too. seven-day forecast, that's at the bottom of the screen. get a peek ahead of what's coming. does show showers for tomorrow and the possibility of thunderstorms. i'll have a look at those in ten minutes. right now katy zachry has your first alert traffic. >> i'm keeping my eye on route 1. you have a good commute ahead. this is route 1 in both directions. the outliers, the on and off ramps. everything is looking good. you may find increased traffic as you make sure way toward city ave. pennsylvania majors all in the green light. we have great road conditions as bill said, we're expecting rain later in the week starting tomorrow. everything is dry and clean right now. average speeds are in the upper 50s to low 60s. so, again, this is bound to change. we are heading into a typical monday morning commute. everything looks good right now. for montgomery county drivers,

conshohocken road, right in the heart of conshohocken, that closes as of today for the next three months. that closure affects things from fayette street to ridge pike. two pretty well traveled roads. this happens until late july. you can use butler pike to ridge pike to get around it. back to you guys. >> now to decision 2016. today is the final day for candidates to make their pitches to voters ahead of tomorrow's primaries. >> four of the five candidates are focused on our area today. voters in pennsylvania and delaware will join connecticut and maryland and rhode island to cast votes tomorrow. and now ted cruz and john kasich are on a new sort of campaign. they're joining forces to block donald trump from getting the delegates necessary to claim the gop nomination this summer. nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us at the penrose diner in south philadelphia where kasich will greet voters this morning. trump is calling this alliance a collusion, was tweeting about it overnight. >> that's right, vai. he also released a statement within the past few hours.

i'll get to that in just a moment. first, governor john kasich is still in the race. he'll be here, expected to be here at the penrose diner at 10:00, greeting voters and shaking hands. there's been quite a bit of development over the past 12 hours or so. ted cruz and john kasich are announcing that they are sort of teaming up in a matter of ways to try to take down donald trump. kasich's office put out a statement last night saying his campaign's goal right now is to have an open republican convention. his team strategist says they will shift resources out west, continue the campaign but give ted cruz a clear path to winning indiana. it's a winner take all state. hope is to keep trump under the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination. ted cruz's campaign says they will let kasich fight for oregon and new mexico. cruz's campaign manager said he hopes that the allies of both campaigns will follow their lead. donald trump, he's the republican front-runner. he went on twitter. here's one of his tweets.

take a çlook. wow, just announced that lyin' ted and john kasich are going to collude in order to keep me from getting the republican nomination. desperation. as i mentioned, donald trump came out with a statement of his own, a formal statement within the past few hours. it starts off by saying, it is sad that two grown politicians have to collude against one person who has only been a politician for ten months in order to try to stop that person from getting the republican nomination. i'm reading off of that statement that just came out within the past few hours from donald trump. there's quite a bit of events happening in our area today. we have the pennsylvania and delaware primaries happening tomorrow. it's a little over 24 hours until the polls open. donald trump has an event scheduled at 4:00 today at west chester university. there's a student group that is planning to protest that visit, saying he is free to speak his mind but not on their campus.

first up, john kasich here at the penrose diner today at 10:00. i was talking with some of the folks in there. they're planning for quite a bit of excitement later on this morning. maybe he'll order the scrapple. who knows. >> thank you, matt. tonight the democratic candidates for president will be in philadelphia on the eve of the pennsylvania primary. >> msnbc will host back-to-back town halls with hillary clinton and bernie sanders. candidates will take questions from voters at the national constitution center. hosts chris hayes will moderate the sanders town hall at 8:00, rachel maddow will handle the clinton town hall at 9:00. we have a new presidential poll to share with you. >> what it's showing is that bernie sanders has an uphill bat toll win tomorrow's democratic primary in pennsylvania. the new nbc news/"wall street journal"/macist poll she journal"/marist poll shows hillary clinton with a 55% to 40% lead over sanders.

and donald trump polls in at 45% among likely gop voters. that's compared to 27% for ted cruz and 24% for john kasich. and you can stay on top of all the decision 2016 news on the nbc 10 app, plus by downloading the app, get tomorrow's primary results as they roll in. in other news now at 6:07, new this morning, a family is out of their home after a fire. crews were called to hartville street in philadelphia's kensington neighborhood around 10:30 last night. an nbc 10 viewer sent thus video. an adult and child were inside the home when the fire started. the red cross is helping them this morning. no one was hurt. and investigators are calling a fire in the frankford neighborhood suspicious this morning. a cat was killed and three other animals rescued when a house went up in flames. fire started at the home on leaper street yesterday afternoon. it rekindled last night but is now out. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley.

>> minutes from sunshine this morning, a cool start but this is typical for this time of year. lehigh valley, now 50 degrees. sun coming up in the pennsylvania suburbs. 47. still cooling down at this hour in southç jersey at 41 degrees. delaware, at 49 degrees to start with. we will see these numbers climb into the 70s this afternoon. some cooler spots, harmony hills at 41 degrees and 42 degrees in greenville right now. while wilmington is in the upper 40s. that's their starting point. we'll see sunshine today and a warmer day today. temperatures into the upper 70s this afternoon, good seven degrees warmer than yesterday. tomorrow we've got showers and possibly some thunderstorms from a system that will completely miss us today. the first of the showers coming in early tomorrow morning. that's 8:00 in the morning and then again in the afternoon. but for today, we'll be shower free. look at the warmup, by 4:00, philadelphia 75 degrees.

the suburbs, sunshine, 66 to start with. into the 70s with southwesterly wind, the lehigh valley will warm into the 70s this afternoon. for delaware and south jersey, you can see upper 60s to start with, middle 70s. that's by 4:00 this afternoon. a bill cooler at the jersey shore. 60s but still nice and completely dry for today. that will change tomorrow. we'll see clear skies through the day today. there are the showers way to the north. that's in north dakota, minnesota and extend into the upper peninsula and northern michigan. that system completely misses us today. come tomorrow, we'll see that wet weather. today, look at the warmup, 77, the high temperature in somerton, pennsylvania suburbs, sunshine, middle 70s for the high. look at bethlehem, up to 74 degrees this afternoon. well into the 70s for south jersey. atlantic city at the shore, that's going to be the cool spot today. 62 degrees while linwood makes it up to 70. bright sunshine an a big warmup for wilmington and dover. both up to 76 degrees.

that's today. there's your seven day. when i'm back in ten minutes, your ten-day outlook. thank you, bill. 6:10. we've been on the air for two hours. the volume has increased with the traffic. >> we'll start to see it pick up. >> yes, slow to get out of the house and their car, turn their car on, actually get to work or school. we are seeing things pick up a little bit as evidenced by the traffic on 95 southbound. right around the girard area. it's increasing as it's heading into center city philadelphia. still, your drive time as you make your way southbound between woodhaven and the vine street expressway, 14 minutes. average speed in the upper 50s, which is great. an hour from now it will probably be in the upper 30s if i had a crystal ball. which i don't and i don't want to jinx it. the pennsylvania turnpike, any of the overnight construction that was delaying things, we weren't seeing considerable

he's sending 250 more u.s. military personnel to syria. they'll be joining the 50 u.s. special forces already there. the troops will help local forces fight isis. 6:18 on this monday morning. we want to get a peek at traffic in the lehigh valley. >> nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter katy zachry has that. how's it looking? >> it's looking good. we have a great shot as the sun is coming up. it might just be after sunrise. i'll defer to bill on that one. it's a sunny shot nonetheless up in the lehigh valley. this is 78 at lehigh street. light volume on the roads there. if 78, 22, 309, if any of those routes are part of your commute, you're looking pretty good. taking a look now at 76, the schuylkill expressway, right around bell monday the avenue. this is the eastbound side, headed into center city philadelphia. you can see eastbound, your drive times between the blue route and the vine street expressway only about 14 minutes. we're seeing increased volume there. 422, i was watching this because

this morning when we get to tomorrow morning. when we get to tomorrow morning, there's other changes ahead. right now heading out now, 50 degrees in philadelphia. that's at philadelphia international airport. there are still cool spots to be found. look at the low 40s for chestnut hill. parkside at 44 degrees. 46 in bustleton, somerton is at 40 degrees right now. southwesterly winds won't be terribly strong today but just enough to warm temperatures up today. you can see that at the bottom of the screen. that's the seven-day forecast for each part of our area. it's there each time i'm on the air. it does show a chance of showers and thunderstorms for election day but it's not going to be an all-day rainfall. today, 77 degrees in philadelphia, tomorrow, warmer up to 82 degrees. we'll hit that 82 before a banned moves in with showers and thunderstorms late in the afternoon. that will cool things down for wednesday. for the pennsylvania suburbs, 70s today, near 80 in the afternoon withç late-day showe and thunderstorms.

clearing on wednesday. and the lehigh valley, nothing but sunshine and a few scattered clouds later in the day. 74 degrees. warmer tomorrow with a chance of umbrellas going up. for south jersey, not bad. 76 degrees. cooler at the shore today. 62. both areas will see scattered showers and thunderstorms late in the day tomorrow. and delaware, 70s today, heading for 80 tomorrow. not an all-day rainfall, showers and thunderstorms scattered. warmer tomorrow, cooling down for wednesday. temperatures near 70 degrees wednesday afternoon. it will be breezy, too, on wednesday. futurecast for today, lots of sunshine. a few scattered clouds at times. mainly sunshine. that's 3:00 in the afternoon. then as we go into tomorrow, look at the scattered showers, that's 8:00 this evening in northwestern pennsylvania. those will be on the move and a chance we'll see some showers early tomorrow morning in the area. that's 4:00 tomorrow morning. the heaviest downpours moving through long island at that hour. another round of showers after a

mainly dry day tomorrow. plenty of time to get to the polls and sunshine will warm things up into the 80s in the afternoon. but there's a chance we'll see late-day showers and with those late-day showers in the heat of the afternoon, we could see thunderstorms develop. so the henative day outlook, warm today with lots of sunshine. tomorrow, late-day showers after the early morning showers. most of the day will be dry, 82 degrees, turning cooler and breezy on wednesday. 67, then it stays chilly on thursday and we get more much-needed rainfall for thursday into friday. that's not the only chance. into next weekend, there's a possibility of showers later on saturday and later on sunday. looks likely to be dry for the broad street run sunday morning. by monday, tuesday and wednesday, temperatures stay in the 60s with a chance that you'll get to use your umbrella once again. >> all right, thank you, bill. 50 degrees in philadelphia. 22 minutes past 6:00 a.m. two shootings hours apart leave two american in philadelphia dead. >> coming up, what the

suburbs, 47 degrees with a few clouds in yardley. we're getting sunshine, too. look at the warmup, 55 degrees at 9:00. by lunch time, 64 degrees and climbing. as far as philadelphia is concerned, you'll need your sunglasses. bright sunshine, 54 at 8:00. by 11:00, 65 degrees and still climbing. in fact, warming well above yesterday's temperatures, 77 degrees, that's up by 7:00 compared to yesterday. south jersey, 76. right at the shore, 62 degrees. that's what's happening today. there's a seven day at the bottom of the screen which shows some wet weather coming our way. i'll have a look at that, your election day, when i'm back in ten. katy zachry has your traffic this morning. katy in. bright sunshine. drivers might notice sun glare. roadways are clear. great conditions to be headed out early to work or school.

delucia, nbc 10 news. thank you. today the democratic candidates for president will be in philadelphia as well on the eve of the pennsylvania primary. msnbc will host back-to-back town halls with hillary clinton and bernie sanders at the national constitution center. sanders town hall is scheduled at 8:00, the clinton town hall follows at 9:00. before bernie sanders takes questions from voters, he'll hold a rally at drexel university's athletic center on nbc's "meet the press" yesterday, senator sanders said he still sees a path to victory. sanders added that he and hillary clinton are united when it comes to stopping the possibility of a donald trump presidency. hillary clinton will hold a get out the vote rally this evening at city hall. yesterday she and governor tom wolf spoke to the congregation at a baptist church in junal to park. clinton says one her campaign platforms is theç need for criminal justice reform, including right here in philadelphia. >> i just visited a program here

police say a 21-year-old man was shot twice in the head outside of a supermarket. the victim was in the area and had been talking to chris rabb who was campaigning to become state representative. the victim express the an interest in participating with the campaign. minutes later, the 21-year-old was gunned down. we talked to police. they're telling us the shooting is likely sparked a second shooting that occurred later in the same area. first, take a listen to what neighbors had to say. >> it's a shock to me. it normally doesn't happen in our neighborhood. it's very quiet. i've been here 18 years. this is the first i've ever seen anything like this in our neighborhood. >> we believe there were multiple shooters at this location. the disconcerting part about it, obviously someone lost their life but it appears to be related to a homicide that was committed four hours ago right around the corner.

scattered clouds in haddonfield, 75 degrees, glassboro, 77 degrees, the high temperature this afternoon. look at the numbers for delaware. 76 degrees in wilmington and dover. dewey beach also up to 76 degrees this afternoon. that's today. completely dry. nothing to show you here today but you see the rain that's affecting northern and western new york and into northern michigan and even into the dakotas. that's part of a system that is going to bring us showers and possibly thunderstorms for tomorrow. along with the warmer day. this is the three-day forecast. look at the 80s tomorrow afternoon. late-day storms in the pennsylvania suburbs and the lehigh valley. we can see a round of showers early in the morning and again later in the day for tomorrow. south jersey, completely dry today. dry on wednesday but in between, we'll get much-needed rainfall and possibly thunderstorms. the jersey shore, a warmup tomorrow, in spite of the chance of showers. those showers most likely holding off later in the day.

school of technology on thursday. her friends tell us she was a peacemaker who always stepped in to stop fights. the town hall tonight at stubbs elementary will allow the commune to the talk about what happened and talk about ways to prevent future incidents. also an autopsy will be performed today on the man shot to death inside a montgomery county church during sunday service. >> police say another church member fired shots during the 11:00 a.m. service at keystone fellowship church on stump road in north wales, montgomery county. according to investigators, 27-year-old robert braxton, a member of the church, was in an argument with another church member. during the altercation, at least one shot was fired. braxton was hit in the chest while other parishioners ducked for cover. >> he was worshipping and you hear three different gunshots right after. everybody kind of went on the floor and was hiding. everybody was trying to make themselves as smalls apossible. >> brax done died at the hospital. the alleged shooter was treated and released from the hospital.

thunderstorms. this morning, we're watching the temperatures. sunshine now, the pennsylvania suburbs, 47 degrees. a few clouds in the lehigh valley. those will break for sunshine. south jersey in the 40s for the jersey shore and south jersey. and in philadelphia, that's 50 degrees, that's the starting point. that is going to be warming up. society hill is 50 degrees into the upper 70s this afternoon. see there are cooler areas, somerton is at 40, andorra, 42 to start with. cool start, bright sunshine. no sign of any wet weather today. it's all staying to the north. see some showers in new york state, that's part of a system that extends way to the west, even ending in snow in montana. it's all part of the same system. that's coming at us for tomorrow. the first showers could be coming through early tomorrow morning. here are the forecast rain totals. 1:00 in the morning. scattered light showers. look at the rain totals for allentown, doylestown and trenton. those early morning showers are at 4:00 in the morning.

they'll move through and we'll get a break from the rain for most of the day tomorrow. it's election day. it will be a busy day out and about. noontime, a few scattered showers possible in the area. trenton, more than an inch of rain for tomorrow. we need the rain and we will get some tomorrow. so the ten-day outlook has some changes. 77 degrees. brilliant sunshine today. just a few scattered clouds late in the day. tomorrow we'll be in and out of the clouds. late in the day, a chance of showers and thunderstorms after that early morning possibility. by wednesday, we're trying out. then look at the cooler weather and more wet weather for thursday and friday and into the coming weekend. temperatures in the 60s after morning temperatures in the 40s. saturday, those are late showers, sunday broad street run, looks like it will take dry. those showers are later on sunday. by monday afternoon, a possibility of scattered showers into tuesday and wednesday, keeping the numbers in the 60s.
