driver who took off after slamming into two philadelphia police officers along broad street. taking stock after more wins for the presidential front-runners, donald trump and hillary clinton are adding to their delegate counts after wins in our region. good morning, i'm tracy davidson. this is "nbc 10 news today." it is 4:30. and it is much cooler this morning than it has been the last couple of days. let's check in with first alert meteorologist bill henley. bill? >> tracy, the temperatures are still falling at this hour. it's going to be a slow fall as we're looking at mostly cloudy skies. these are live pictures from around our area. this is what's happening right now. the lehigh valley, 51 degrees. you can see some of the lingering clouds in easton, 48 degrees, the temperature still cooling. by 7:00, 40s. then it's into the low 50s at 10:00. look at those cloudy skies. it will be a mostly cloudy day today. and a cool one, too. we're starting in the 40s and 50s and this afternoon, no sign of the 80s like yesterday. 60 degrees for new jersey at the
shore. a chance of a lingering shower, 55 degrees, especially to the south with mostly cloudy skies. breaks of sunshine this afternoon in the lehigh valley. and mostly cloudy day for philadelphia but we will see some breaks of sunshine. and this will not be the end of the clouds as you may have noticed by the seven-day forecast scrolling at the bottom of the screen. take a look at what they return and when you'll need your umbrella again when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> we still are watching ongoing construction off of the ramp from 422 around route 23. it looks scarier than it really is. we do have a lot of lane restrictions around with construction crews on site. and some police officers there just to enforce the lane restrictions as well. this typically ends around 5:00 this morning and of course we'll keep you updated. we're watching, still out in north philadelphia, that accident scene where there was a hit and run, broad and parrish closed and 15th is closed between broad and parrish. in north philadelphia, hit
and run crash sent two police officers to the hospital. nbc 10's katy zachry is live on scene. there's several pieces to this story. story. katy >> reporter: there are a couple moving parts, tracy. it's hard to take everything in. we'll lay it out for you. the scene behind me just cleared. let's show you the video that's been out here, that happened a couple hours ago. the screen just wrapped up. so there's a pickup truck that was hit right at broad street and brown street. that pickup truck was being driven by two plain clothes police officers earlier this year. we were driving on broad near brown when a black sedan hit them and kept going. a witness to that crash stopped, got out of his car but his car kept moving forward. it's unclear if he didn't put it in park or there was a malfunction. that is when two men who were walking on the sidewalk jumped in the moving car and took off with it. they drove a few blocks away where they crashed that white
vehicle into another car. then the two men got out of that stolen car and ran to a nearby nightclub back on broad street where they went in and took off identified clothes they were wearing. police out here tell us one of the men was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. he seemed to be taking that off when he entered the nightclub. police are still looking for those two men. i'm told the two injured police officers were taken to a nearby hospital. they should be okay, suffering from minor injuries. they were mostly taken for observation. so what we're going to do since they just cleared this scene, is break down here, drive a couple blocks away to where we understand there may be another scene still active. i'll have an update for you coming up at the top of the hour. reporting live in north philadelphia, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. >> thanks for an update, katy. appreciate it. 4:33. more momentum for the front-runners. donald trump and hillary clinton both won the pennsylvania and delaware primaries and they continue to pull away from their republican and democratic challengers.
nbc 10's matt delucia is here tracking the presidential race and how close the candidates are to clinching a nomination. walk us through this. >> clinton and trump both picked up more delegates and got closer to their party's nomination. first up, we'll talkç about th big takeaways last night. bernie sanders vows to keep fighting in his race. he's looking ahead to the western states. he was in west virginia last night. they vote on may 10th. donald trump, he is calling himself the presumptive nominee. and then you also have ted cruz focusing on indiana. they vote next week. let's take a look at the delegate count right now for the democrats. hillary clinton she picked up 105 delegates from pennsylvania. 16 from delaware, all together now she's at 2,117. she's getting much closer to the 2,383 needed to win the democratic nomination. as we take a look also for the republicans but first we'll hear from both hillary clinton and bernie sanders.
take a listen. >> we will unify our party to win this election and build an america where we can all rise together. >> this campaign is not just about electing a president. it is about transforming our nation. >> all right. now for the republicans, donald trump, he picks up an estimated 20 delegates out of total 71 for pennsylvania because of the large amount of uncommitted delegates there. for delaware, he picks up about 16 delegates. all together, trump is at 954 delegates. so he is inching his way even closer to the republican nomination. let's take a listen to donald trump and ted cruz speaking after the primary last night. >> and i just want to tell you for the five states, i am so honored. this was, to me, our biggest
night. >> now the media want to say everything is decided. and the question is, can the state of indiana stop the immediatey's chosen republican candidate? >> and so we'll take a closer look at our area's results in the next half hour, including some of theç nbc exit polling results. we'll have more of that in the next hour as well. tracy? >> matt, thanks. presidential politics and the gender card. ahead at 4:45, donald trump targets hillary clinton's gender. hear what he told supporters and then how she replied. now to the race for pennsylvania attorney general. montgomery county commissioner josh shapiro won the democratic nomination. here's what he had to say last night. >> so many people told us the only way that a pragmatic progressive reformer could win the state.

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> it's a cooler start this morning. the rain has ended for these locations. the lehigh valley 51 degrees, 46 in the pennsylvania suburbs, hovering at 50 degrees for philadelphia and delaware. and in south jersey, 49 while the shore is at 49 degrees. we'll see these numbers come up during the day. but not to yesterday's levels. exton currently 49 degrees.ç a chilly start this morning and a cooler day overall. this time of year our temperatures should warm into the upper 60s. you may have noticed it will be cooler for much of the next week. that's the seven day scrolling at the bottom of the screen. one seven day for each part of the viewing area. here's why we break it down
neighborhood by neighborhood. the clouds thin out northwest. it's mostly cloudy and delaware and south jersey. indeed, there's still showers to the south. there's a possibility we'll see more showers during the day today as the futurecast shows they'll return to parts of delaware and south jersey. that's at 7:00 this morning. just an isolated shower is possible or sprinkle really north and west as the clouds linger. at 9:30 this morning, still needing your umbrella in cape may, dover and farther to the south. while it's dry in philadelphia, then we should get a break as we go into the afternoon hours. but there's still a chance we'll see scattered showers in the afternoon in south jersey and delaware. while the rest of the area is staying dry, it may even see breaks of sunshine. it will be a cloudy and cooler one day. here's your neighborhood forecast. south philadelphia, 63 degrees. clouds ling are for somerton. neshaminy, 64, malvern, 60 the high temperature today.

it's 4:45 and 50 degrees outside. belgium has just handed over a key suspect in the paris attacks to french authorities. salah abdeslam was arrested in belgium last month after four months on the run. he's want for his role in the november attacks in paris that killed 130 people. he was arrested after a shootout with police. following his victories in
yesterday's presidential primaries, republican donald trump zeroed in on his likely rival in november, hillary clinton. nbc 10's vai sikahema is live in our digital operations center. vai, trump hit her hard. >> good morning, tracy. he really did after declaring himself the presumptive nominee, trump accused clinton of playing the woman card. >> if hillary clinton were a man, i don't think she'd get 5% of the vote. the only thing she's got going is the woman's card and the beautiful thing is, women don't like her. >> well, clinton responded to trump's comments during her victory speech here in philadelphia. take a listen. >> mr. trump accused me of playing the, quote, woman card. well, if fighting for women's health care and paid family leave and equal pay is playing the woman card, then deal me in! >> clinton also called on her supporters to stand together and
to work to beat the candidates on the other side who she said, quote, would pit americans against each other. now, clinton won four out of five democratic primaries yesterday, including pennsylvania and new jersey. trump won all five of the gop races. i'm live in the digital operations center, i'm vai sikahema, nbc 10 news. counting down to history. today marks exactly is 00 days to the start of the 2016 summer olympic games in rio and team usa is already celebrating. nbc 10 national correspondent jay gray is live in times square for us this morning. good morning, jay. >> tracy, good morning, from times square where they are still preparing for the athlete's summit, the road to rio, a bill later this morning. the athletes completing their training, months away from living their olympic dreams. crews are working round the clock in rio to make sure the games don't turn into a nightmare. the olympic spark has grown
to a flame now. the flame now burning for!dhe first time in south america. >> it will be a party. >> reporter: the host city for that party, rio, with just 100 days left, is still dealing with unwanted guests. >> the point is making sure we win the battle against the mosquito. >> reporter: their continue to be concerns about the rapid spread of the zika virus with dozens of athletes, including member of the u.s. women's soccer team voicing their fears. >> i don't think the soccer venue should be so close to the rain forest where there's more mosquitos. >> reporter: and the water venues, pollution continues to be a problem. teams had to deal with trash and dead animals during training runs. brazilian officials are sticking by a pledge to reduce the pollution by 80% before the games. >> we also guarantee they will compete in safe waters during games time, in swimming, rowing and sailing. >> reporter: other issues include security. brazil's struggling economy and
ongoing political strife. host cities always deal with major concerns leading up to the games, they point out. and the country of carnival insists it will be ready to welcome the world to rio. that's right. the opening ceremonies set for august 5th. rio promising a party like no other. that's the latest, live here in times square. tracy, back to you. >> jay, thanks. coming up tonight on nbc 10, we'll give you a taste of rio de janeiro as the city prepares to host the olympic games. nbc 10's jacqueline london went to brazil to look at the preparations andette feature that will make these games unique. this is rio's most iconic image, christ the redeemer, one of the new seven wonders of the world. it's an image of jesus christ, his arms outstretched on the
mountain top as if he's blessing the thousands who come to see him each day. >> especially with the clouds blowing in and out and the fog covering the face and uncovering it from time to time. and the sun shining through.ç >> rio is a city full of beauty and, again, nbc 10's jacqueline london went there and she will have a special report, nbc 10's rio 100 tonight at 7:00 right here on nbc 10. and right now, just about 10 before 5:00, let's get you updated on the conditions along 95. nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has you covered. what does it look like? >> deal, more construction, this is 95 headed northbound around the blue route. in between 320 and the blue route we're dealing with lane restrictions here. and some ramp blockages as well. you can see we do have this over into the right-hand shoulder and the right lane. even some of that closure moves into this lane here. only one getting by. headed northbound on 95 right now. no big delays behind it.
they usually pick it up around 5:00 this morning. out in north philadelphia, watching the scene of that hit and run, the southbound traffic on broad and brown is being detoured by the scene. there still is an active scene on 15th and parrish. delaware, we're watching an accident out in wilmington on route 202 northbound and the left lane is closed around foulk road. more updates when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> clouds are lingering in the area and that's keeping things cooler this morning. 40s and 50s right now. those clouds will stay with us as we go into the afternoon hours. the temperatures have been dropping, not significantly, though, it's 48 degrees in voorhees. look at -- lumberton 48 degrees. just shy of the 50s for much of the area in south jersey. no sign of the 80s we saw yesterday. you may have noticed what's
ahead on the bottom of the screen. that's a different seven day for each part of our viewing area. 7:00 today, 50 degrees in philadelphia, upper 50s for the pennsylvania suburbs and clouds should be thinning out in the lehigh valley. might not see much sunshine, if any, this morning.ç 48 degrees. as we go into the afternoon, we'll still see clouds around but the clouds will be thinning out. to the south, this is where we could see scattered showers at the jersey shore and in southern delaware. northern delaware mainly cloudy, 54 degrees at 11:00. new jersey starting off in the 40s heading to near 60 degrees this afternoon. just a bit cooler at the jersey shore and still a possibility of some scattered showers at the shore. you can see those showers have taken a break for most of the area right now. they are just to the south and this is streaming to the east. this shower activity that's in west virginia, virginia and into maryland is still a possibility for delaware and south jersey today.
but farther to the north, mainly dry conditions. there you see the futurecast showing by 2:00 this afternoon, lots of clouds, breaks in the clouds to the north. but not completely clearing during the day today. then the next round of showers lining up in the midwest and across kentucky and tennessee. that's part of what's going to be moving into our area for tomorrow. so you get a break from your umbrella for today but then showers return tomorrow as we go into the noontime hour, some scattered showers north and west. and the possibility of those showers coming into the philadelphia area by 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. for today, your ten-day outlook shows the cooldown, 63 degrees with mostly cloudy skies today. rain returns during the afternoon tomorrow, 58 degrees and staying into friday. a chance of some showers, 58 the high. then we'll get breaks of sunshine for saturday and the blue cross broad street run is on sunday. 61 degrees the high temperature.
showers due in later in the day on sunday. the broad street run should be dry. then come monday, the showers continue, come tuesday, a chance we'll get some afternoon sunshine and then we're back in the 70s for wednesday, thursday and friday. tracy? >> bill, thanks. seven minutes before 5:00. after 13 years, a philadelphia neighborhood is getting some closure. they have finally found the arsonist who killed five people in a home in olney. ou look over there, i can remember it. i feel so bad for the family. >> more than a decade later, you can still see burn marks on the widener street home. fire crews found the bodies of three ault dids and a baby inside back in 2003. a fifth person, a 17-year-old died weeks later. on monday, investigators arrested the man they say is responsible, abdu rivera. they say they set the house on fire after he and a friend lost
a bet to one of the adults. we continue to follow breaking news from north philadelphia. two philadelphia police officers are hurt after someone crashed into their unmarked truck and then drove off. next in a live report, hear who else officers are looking for. also next, see who's using social media to publicly shame drivers who text behind the wheel.

traffic highway safety administration says shame onon you. they're taking it to the next step, public humiliation. they filled its twitter account with shots of drivers that appear to be texting behind the wheel. texting while driving has become a dangerous epidemic is what they're calling it. they are asking people to post pictures of guilty drivers #just drive. >> had my license for less than an hour and already started texting and driving. nice. >> sounds like you're off to a bad start. seriously put the phone down and #just drive. >> another driver tweeted texting and driving is pretty efficient. here's their çreply. if my efficient you mean super dangerous and dumb, it's efficient. please stay off the phone #just drive. runners are preparing to are this weekend's blue cross broad street run. the nation's largest ten-mile road race. nbc 10 will give you a front row seat to all the action so you
can watch your friends and family cross the finish line. from start to finish we'll be airing every step of the broad street run on sunday. coverage begins at 8:00 a.m. watch on friday night at 7:00 for run eady, set, run. we'll show you the best places to watch along the course and what's new at this year's health and wellness expo. a lot of people can't imagine running a half marathon. >> this is really interesting here. one new york girl ran one but she did it by accident. 12-year-old leah rodriguez showed up for a 5k in rochester sunday. here's what happened. she was ready to run about three miles. she got there, a race was already in progress and the 12-year-old thought she was late. so she just jumped in and joined the pack. but it was the wrong race. she was now running in a half marathon. that's ten miles more than what
she had trained for. >> about the fourth mile i asked a woman i was running with how long it was. she said it was about 13 miles. that's when i realized i was in the wrong group. >> yes, she eventually figured it out and she decided, though, hey, just go for it. i'm already here, right? >> right, sure. >> just do it. her mom was waiting at the 5k finish line. as a mom, she became frantic. her daughter didn't cross the line. a few minutes past, half hour. >> right. >> a police officer finally found her and brought her to her mom. >> a lot of it is mental, right? she just thought, i'm just doing a 5k. >> at 12 could you run 13 miles? >> couldn't do it. i can't run it now either. >> that's what i was thinking. you're watching nbc news.
