clouds in the area. the clouds are starting to break in the lehigh valley. that's the view from easton. 73 degrees with some sunshine at 8:00. at 11:00, 81 degrees. the wind is going to really be picking up. right now it's out of the southwest at 7 miles an hour in philadelphia. it will be shifting that will clear the clouds that are still over the city right now. cloudy and 71 degrees. at this hour, 71 at 7:00 but we'll see some sunshine. look at the quick warmup, near 80 degrees. that's at 10:00 this morning. it will be a warm summer day today. but as the day goes on, the winds pick up and the humidity will be coming down. check this out. no sign of any wet weather today. 88 this afternoon in philadelphia. 88 for interior new jersey and at the shore, 82 degrees with bright sunshine today. we'll go through the forecast hour by hour ben i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington right now with your first alert traffic. >> thanks, bill. we're watching the schuylkill expressway. that accident scene we were just talking about a couple minutes ago has cleared out of the way.
earlier we did have lane restrictions over into the right shoulder and the right lane eastbound on the schuylkill just past the vine street expressway on and off ramp. no problems there anymore. keeping it in mt. laurel, new jersey, route 73 right around 295. headed southbound you'll pass some construction. if you're headed southbound, no lane restrictions headed northbound right now with this ongoing construction here. we will of course keep you updated as soon as it lifts out of the way. it was a brand new project that began at 4:00 this morning. also watching the bridges, that scheduled opening still in effect right now. scheduled for 4:45. you'll see some delays there. no opening over the tacony palmyra but we'll keep you updated for the rest of the morning. we are following breaking news out of delaware county where five people were rescued by firefighters after a fire ripped through their home. nbc 10's matt delucia is live on scene. matt, officials say the victims were waiting on the fire escape before they were pulled to safety. tell us what happened. >> that's right, tracy. right now we are on yarnell
street and west 3rd street. the fire crews left within the past 15 to 20 minutes. that is the house right there and some of the damage there. you can see some of the charred remains of the right side of that structure there. it's a three-story building here. you can see some of the fire escapes we've been talking about there as well. firefighters say six apartments and 12 tenants. the first responders when they showed up, they pulled five people out of the fire escape, including two adults and three children. >> all the victims that came out over the third floor with our assistance came out under their own power. they were brought to crozier for evaluation. >> some good news there. no serious injuries. as we take another live look here, that fire is out. the red cross has been helping about half dozen of the other tenants forced out of their apartments early this morning. the fire marshal is also trying
to figure out how this fire started. we've been talking about some of the folks that were displaced as a result of this fire. more of that coming up in the next 30 minutes. live in chester, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, matt. happening today, the national weather service will investigate whether a tornado caused damage like this in cape may county. residents will be cleaning up. at least a dozen trees fell on homes on shirley avenue in the rio grande section of mid township. a family is reunited with their cats that escaped when a tree fell through their roof. the heavy winds blew ac units out of place on a store's roof as well. what did all this sound is like? >> very, very loud. some crashing, outside the window you could see lightning. >> all of the customers made it out of the home depot safely. the manager hopes to re-open
sometime today. an nbc 10 viewer snapped this viewer of a lightning strike just off the beach in wildwood, cape may county. to see more images of the storm damage, head over to our website or click on the nbc 10 app. the nbc 10 app sends out severe weather alerts so you can stay out of danger. switching gears, congressman chaka fattah will be sentenced in october following conviction in his federal corruption case. >> the jury found him guilty on all counts yesterday. today's philadelphia daily news head line calls the congressman big dipper and says he had hand in cookie jar. the 11-term congressman could be forced to resign and could spend the rest of his life in prison. the jury found him guilty of laundering federal grants and nonprofit funds to repay an illegal $1 millionç campaign loan. >> chaka fattah sr. and his co-defendants betrayed public
trust and undermine our faith in government. >> it's a very tough day. we're going to confer with my lawyers. we'll figure out what our next steps are. >> congressman fattah is free on bail right now. >> there was a mixed verdict for the co-defendants. herbert vederman was found guilty on all counts. prosecutors say he bribed the congressman to try to get an ambassadorship. the jury found robert brand guilty on all charges convicting him of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. former fattah aide karen nicholas was found guilty on six counts including wire fraud and falsification of records. the jury returned a split verdict for bonnie bowser. the panel found fattah's former chief of staff guilty on 5 of 21 counts she faced. we're following new developments in the case involving 12 girls rescued from a house in bucks county. the county's children and youth services agency tells us there was a custody hearing yesterday
for the girl found inside lee kaplan's feasterville home last week. we don't know the results of that, though. kaplan is charged with sexually assaulting the oldest girl and fathering two children. the couple from lancaster county is accused of gifting the girl to kaplan. all three will appear in court in august. we've learned nearly three dozen relatives of the girls discovered inside the home attended that court hearing. the girls themselves were not there. environmental investigators are looking into new drinking water concerns in bucks county. doylestown closed the cross keys well after testing found found it was contaminated with chemical compounds. the pennsylvania department of environmental protection is testing more drinking water services in doylestown, buckingham and plumsted. the chemical compounds are same as those that led to water problems in horsham, warrenton and warminster where authorities say contamination came from a former navy base in montgomery county. officials say at this point, they don't know the source of
the cross keys contamination. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> seven minutes after 5:00. we are less than half an hour away from sunrise. seeing the skies brighten over cape may, there's still clouds. you can see them in the distance. no sign of the wet weather we had yesterday. it's drying out and picking up after those storms during the day today. still clouds over philadelphia. though we're getting a cloudy start and the humidity is on the high side right now. there's drier air that's going to be pushing into the area. but to start with, there is fog to deal with. the worst of it is in chester county, coatesville is down to zero visibility. we've just seen the visibility come down to one mile in pottstown. look how clear it is. excellent visibility for hazleton, mt. pocono, allentown, quakertown. this is where the drier air has blown into the area. that will be sweeping across the rest of the area. you'll really feel it. you can see it with the
temperatures, with clear skies and dry air, that's when you get your cooler temperatures. it is about ten degrees cooler in the lehigh valley and some of the suburbs. in fact, in philadelphia, we're in the low 70s right now. the wind will be blowing during the day today. that dry air pushes into the area. the humidity comes down. any fog, any clouds around this morning will be out of the picture for the rest of the day. and because the winds coming out of the northwest, coming across the land, it's even going to be a big warmup at the shore today, too. not in the 70s. it will be in the 80s this afternoon. that's a land breeze blowing we'll see plenty of sunshine. it will be a beautiful summer day. no sign of the storms. 72 degrees at 8:00 and philadelphia, bright, sunny skies and 83 degrees and still climbing by lunch time. in the suburbs, any fog disappears, 9 degrees at 8:00. look at the warmup from 69 at 8:00 to 82 degrees at noon and into the middle 80s this afternoon. the lehigh valley already seeing skies clearing.

today, former u.s. house speaker den in any event hastert must report to a federal medical prison in minnesota. the ailing hastert will begin serving a 15-year sentence. the investigation revealed he sexually abused at least four boys during his teaching days in the 1960s and '70s. the statute of limitations had run out. three people from hee lie and carbon counties, pennsylvania, are in custody in new york city. >> police stopped them with trying to drive through the holland tunnel with weapons in their truck. port authority police stopped the truck for a cracked windshield and found the guns and ammunition. two men from zionsville in lehigh valley and a woman from lehighton each face weapons
charges. the discovery left people who use the tunnel in shock. >> it's horrible. >> what somebody is doing with that, that's just not right. >> law enforcement sources told our sister station in new york that one of the suspects told police they were heading to new york to rescue a kidnapping victim. the associated press sites sources saying they planned to rescue a teenage girl involved with drugs. the port authority released no official motive but say there is no link to terrorism. two wildfires in southern california are getting closer together and firefighters are doing whatever they can to keep them from merging. the fires known as the san gabriel complex fires have burned eight square miles. hundreds of firefighters, police officers and volunteers are battling the blazes and helping residents leave the area. triple digit temperatures are fueling the flames and strong winds keep changing the direction of the fires making them harder to fight. we have a traffic note in philadelphia. a section of martin luther king drive will be closed tonight. the streets department will shut down mlk drive betweg the art museum circle and sweet briar drive beginning at 9:00 so workers can repair the road and

be comfortable today. the humidity coming down, a great summer day. a few scattered clouds, you can see them moving through the lehigh valley. we have some of them in philadelphia, too. they won't last for long. another round of clouds is going to be moving our way for tonight and tomorrow. look at those storms. into illinois and iowa. that's part of a system that will likely bring us some wet weather, possibly as early as first thing tomorrow morning. with clouds moving back into the area, chicago getting rain this afternoon. we won't see the clouds today but the clouds that will be accompanying those storms will be here first thing in the morning. that's going to help keep us cooler. early tomorrow morning, it's moving into western pennsylva a pennsylvania. that system could produce a few rain drops first thing in the morning in south jersey, delaware and into the suburbs at 6:00 in the morning. and then a potential for heavier downpours going into the afternoon. showers and thunderstorms are expected tomorrow. but they will not last for the

the federal government has completed new rules for small drones that fly for commercial purposes. under the new rules, the faa says small, commercial drones weighing under 55 pounds can fly during daylight hours. there will be a 60-day period for public comment and the faa to work out more details. until now, drone operators had to apply for a waiver from rules that governed manned aircraft. apple is reportedly making a big change to its next iphone. landon dowdy has details. good morning, landon. >> hi there, tracy. good morning. crank up the rumor mill. reports say apple plans to ditch

bill henley and the neighborhood weather forecast. it's the kind of day i was telling tracy and jessica, roll your window down today. >> it will be a great day. put the top down, too, if you have a convertible. if it's a hard top, i'd leave it up. this is a view from camden, new jersey. the clouds will not last. these are not storm clouds. the storms are completely out of the picture. we have cloud cover, low clouds and a bit of fog in parts of the area. not everybody will see the fog this morning. it has been thick in coatesville, dense fog, light fog in pottstown. look how completely clear it is for reading, quakertown and allentown. dry air that will be blowing into the area. that will push the clouds out of here and do away with any fog and make for a pretty comfortable day. the range of temperatures, 61 degrees in the suburbs. king of prussia, the clouds clear out. 69 at 8:00, 80 degrees by 11:00. in philadelphia, the low 70s and 69 degrees currently in delaware
