right now on nbc 10 news today. we're tracking more snow. you can see the system pushing closer to our region. the wet weather is moving up from the south. the flakes fell here in south carolina last night. it will be a similar scene for many of us today. now a live look outside center city, philadelphia. a little bit windy this morning. the snow totals from this snow will vary. it depends on where you live. we've got you covered all morning long. good morning. this is nbc 10 news today. i'm rosemary conners. the second round of snow will pack more of a punch than the showers that moved through yesterday. we're making sure you know what to expect from the weekend.

we have reporters down the shore in delaware and philadelphia. and routine coverage in the studio with meteorologist crystal klei. let's begin with the timing and track of the storm. >> we have a lot to talk about. it's a system, as you mentioned, it will affect each neighborhood differently. we're under a first alert for new jersey and delaware. aside from northern new castle county. we extended it from yesterday because the system looks like it has, as we were worried about, tracking to track a little farther north. and the northern spread of snow is a big one. so we're looking at higher snow totals through a larger portion of our viewing area. starting this morning and lasting throughout 7:00 this evening. we're under a first alert. not all of us will see the snow the entire period. we'll break down the time frames in a second. we're expecting heavy snow amounts totals 7 inches and above along the coast points.

delaware beaches and jersey shore. 4 to 6 does push inland for parts of new jersey and delaware. it means the potential for dangerous travel on your saturday. here is a look at radar and satellite now. we see snow showing up on the board. it's not making it to the ground yet. it will be very shortly. we're getting snow reports. ocean city, maryland and starting to track the moving into delaware. we're looking at more snow starting out your morning. but the heavier stuff hitting as we go late morning into early afternoon. this is a huge area of snow to the south. the deep purples will track our direction just clipping our shore points that's why we're looking at the highest total. coming up if in a few minutes we'll take a closer look of the hour-by-hour expectations and break down snow totals by the end of this and what we expect to finish off the weekend. a cold blast that will make

temperatures seem nice today in comparison to tomorrow. and today, by the way, only in the 20s. good morning. we're watching the schuylkill expressway. this is the westbound view. snow free right now. according to crystal the picture bound to change. black ice, you can't rule it out, either. over in delaware 495 northbound it's closed due to an earlier tractor trailer fire specifically between 12th street and edgemar road. the storm expected to slam south jersey and delaware within hours is on the way. here is a look at the snowfall near greenville, south carolina. this is last night. when all is said and done, they're expecting several inches on the ground.

before that the snow fell just outside of atlanta. it didn't take long for the frozen precipitation to cover the road. the shore is expected to bear the brunt of the storm in the region. this morning nbc 10 bureau reporter ted green berg is live. about a year ago cape may got walloped. the storm not going to be as powerful but we could see quite a few inches on the ground. >> reporter: yeah. folks here have been getting ready. good morning. for the past couple of days now. we're waiting for the snow to arrive. nothing yet so far. we think it's going to be arriving soon. a few minutes ago we saw plow crews on the garden state parkway set to roll once the conditions go downhill. digital signs on the parkway warning drivers about the approaching storm. urging them to use caution. cape may county road crews yesterday gearing up for the snow loading up the trucks with salt and making sure that the

machinery is working properly. the jersey shore got barely any snow during round one late thursday night and early friday morning. officials say that small storm gave crews a chance to get the kinks out and figure out what was and wasn't working properly. this time, though, some folks we caught up with are ready to spend much of the weekend inside we talked with doug joule last night in ocean city. >> i went grocery shopping yesterday and came back again today. i got my eggs, my milk, got a a chicken. i'm ready. >> reporter: once the snow gets here, travel is really expected to get treacherous along with the snow we're expecting strong winds here along the coast. that'll start blowing that snow around and making visibility much lower and conditions dangerous. live in cape may, ted greenberg.

philadelphia could see a few inches of snow from the storm. here is a live look over market street. the flakes not falling here yet but the clouds are in place. our live team coverage begins with monique braxton. >> reporter: hi, rosemary. since we arrived in the past hour we've seen some of the truck operators also coming here warming up their trucks, preparing for their next dispatching moment. this is one of 35 stockpiles of salt in the five-county area. our camera was rolling when they began preparing for the 1-2 inch on thursday. 174 state-owned trucks will be deployed to salt roads. contractors will also work the records. pit dot asks in the five-county area 122,000 tons of salt are available for the winter.

the average plow truck route you see being loaded up covers about 40 miles. now they asked we tell drivers to make sure you do not pass their trucks. they also say try to say as much as 6 car lengths behind the plow trucks and everybody will be safe. live for now in nicetown. monique braxton. >> thank you. this morning investigators are trying to determine the motive in the deadly shooting of fort lauderdale's airport. coming up more details about the suspect's connection to new jersey. we continue to track the snow. we'll get an update from meteorologist crystal klei and the live report from delaware when we come back.

don't be fooled by the entire coverage that you see here. we're just starting to get reports into tez of snow falling. we're looking for the more light to deep purple you're seeing on the board. not necessarily the white. you need the snow in the sky to make it to the ground. it's starting to make it to the ground in delaware. this is a large area of snow tracking our direction. here is your time line. 5:00 to 8:00 a.m. from now to 8:00 a.m. we see the snow starting to begin. already in delaware and extending inland through delaware and parts of new jersey, as well. then we go from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 in the afternoon. we'll see the heavier points at the shore beaches. 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. we'll see the hooefr snow move through parts of the inland locations, as well. about the same for the heavier snow slot. later in the day, 4:00 to 7:00, that's when the snow starts to move offshore. this is a day-long effect --

event. we have enough time for it to be a larger amount. 7 inches and above for the purple you see that moves along the jersey shore through the delaware beaches. 4 to 6 inches through much of new jersey and delaware. as we go into new castle county and near philadelphia still at 3 to 5 inches. it's going to be a tight gradient between heavy and steady snow versus 3 to 4 inches. about an inch through parts of the suburbs. we'll talk about the snow totals and break down neighborhood by neighborhood coming up. we continue to keep a close eye on the storm as it pushes toward our region. here is a live look at center city, philadelphia. it's calm and quiet at this morning. you can see the clouds hovering over the city. we'll have live reports throughout the morning from the south jersey, the shore, delaware. we'll be right back. take one of those pillows and take a big smell.

just about quarter after 5:00 on this saturday. a live look at the first alert r radar. we're tracking snow. you can see the system pushing to the north from the south. we had video of south carolina earlier of the snowfall there. they're expecting a few inches on the ground. so are we. it depends on where you live. meteorologist krystal klei will be back with the details. the storm is expected to bring the most snow to the shore. this is live look at cape may. krystal will have more on the timing, snow totals, and the path in a few moments. new this morning investigators trying to find out what lead to a fire on spca.

smoke filled the building around 1:45 this morning. crews got the animals out safely. the deadly airport shooting in fort lauderdale. you're looking at the mug shot of the suspected gunman. the fbi is not ruling out terrorism in the case but authorities are pointing to mental illness as a possible trigger for 13 shootings including five deaths. esteban isn't a esteban santiago is an war veteran. he's awaiting official charges that could come on monday. authorities say he opened fire at the airport's baggage claim. he retrieved a gun from his checked bag after arriving from a flight from anchorage. he ducked into a bathroom to load the gun and came out firing. more than three dozen others were hurt when people flew into

a panic and ran from the scene. >> there was a pop, pop, pop, and a herd of people started running down the way and trampling over people. >> once he finished shooting he threw the gun on the ground and laid on the ground spread eagle. >> travellers who are ran on the tarmac or hid behind cars had to stay for hours while security swept the area. the airport will resume operations later on this morning. the suspected airport gunman had ties to our area. esteban santiago was born in south jersey, grew up in puerto rico, and serves in alaska. last year he was demoted and discharged for unsatisfactory performance. his relatives say he's been treated for mental health issues. sources tell nbc news he recently walked into an fbi office in alaska saying the government was controlling his

mind by making him watching isis videos. count on nbc 10 for continuing coverage of the deadly airport shooting. you'll find updates as they happen on the nbc 10 app. back to the radar. we'll show you as much as we can we're tracking snow moving in. at this point light snow is moving into parts of delaware. we're looking at lighter purple you're starting to pick up on. that's where the snow is developing. quickly it will spread to the shore and inland. we're looking now at snow reports that have been coming in in delaware. one of ours in delaware saying they're snow in southern portions of delaware. we're looking at the snow conditions right now not on the heavy side necessarily. right around .008 of an inch. we drop south into maryland. if we look a little farther south, look at the deeper

purples. looking at more than half an inch per hour falling farther south of us around a third of an inch farther to the southwest of us. and this is going to start moving up near us. so we're looking at heavier snow rates tracking our direction. this is the hour-by-hour forecast. this is at 5:00 a.m. watch it we put it in motion. falling originally lightly through 8:00 a.m. passing through dover and extending through philadelphia. that's by your lunch hour. we see it all the way into our suburbs. again more light know farther north. more steady farther south. you see the deeper purples that indicates the heavier snow starting to fall. had this is snow falling from morning to afternoon to evening. you get the higher accumulations for the zones. by 5:00 starting to move out of delaware and offshore by the

5:00 to 7:00 p.m. time slot. we'll be able to clear out. starting with the jersey shore and delaware beaches moderate to high level. about a four out of five you're looking at. starting this morning going through 6:00 p.m. the accumulation amounts 7 inches and above are possible. some models, especially for delaware beaches are trying to give us a couple more inches than the 7 mark. we're talking higher accumulation. heaviest snow falling 8:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. and gusts possible at 30 miles per hour. we switched to inland new jersey delaware. 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. accumulations 4 to 6 inches. heaviest know from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. you can probably stay indoors today. we'll be breezy across the board. low to moderate level 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. we're looking at the snow moving through. not going see quite as heavy of

snow. 2 to 4 inches with some blowing snow possible because we'll be breezy. that's what we're expecting as we go throughout today neighborhood by neighborhood. as for your temperatures, it will be cold. look at the numbers. the numbers we're going it see early this morning and we're going to start to slip because of the fact today that the snow is moving in. tomorrow we dry out but the winds will higher. so the windchills will be down to about single digits in the morning. some of us around zero degrees for feels like temperatures tomorrow. >> it's a one-two-unch punch. we get snow and precipitation and then temperatures tomorrow. >> yeah. it will be cold today, as well. breezy feeling like around 10 to 15 degrees for the feels like temperature. by tomorrow morning, some of us may feel negative 2 to 5 degrees in the morning. so tomorrow morning stay indoors. >> exactly. speaking of which, good things

accepts their conclusion that russia tried to tilt the election in his favor. intelligence officials released a public version of their classified report. according to their report vladimir putin ordered a hacking campaign to undermine the election and hillary clinton. the report also finds that the russians developed a clear preference for mr. trump. vice president-elect mike pence was there and he promised action from the incoming administration. >> it was a constructive and respectful. president-elect made it clear that we're going to take aggressive action in the early days of our new administration. >> last night congress officially certified president-elect trump's victory in the election. senators lindsey graham and john mccain will be joining chuck todd in a joint discussion of the russian hacking report on nbc's meet t"meet the press" co your way tomorrow morning on 10:30 on nbc 10. dozens of young hockey
