us for a little while as we're tracking snow for the week ahead. you can get out of the cold today and enjoy a breath of spring at the philadelphia flower show. the doors open this morning at the pennsylvania convention center. we'll have a live preview. it is almost time to set those clocks ahead one hour for daylight savings time. you lose an hour of sleep. just what we don't need. find out what a new study says how we can get better rest. good morning, this is nbc 10 news today. thanks for being with us. i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:30 on this saturday. okay. we got another blast of bitter winter weather and then we have some snow in store for us for the week ahead. meteorologist krystal klei is tracking it all with the most accurate forecast in the region. >> let's start with the cold because it is very cold when you get out the door. get out of the car to come to work doesn't feel good outside. this is a look at the 24 hour

change map. right now temperatures versus yesterday morning temperatures when temperatures were dropping ahead of the snow that was pushing through. so take a look here. we're 22 degrees colder right now in philly than we were just yesterday at this same time. 23 degrees colder in vineland. wilmington 25 and allentown 21. atlantic city near 24 degrees colder right now. it was cold yesterday once the snow started falling. what we're looking at here is that same situation but on a bigger scale when it comes to the cold. we're 17 allentown, trenton, 19 in mount holly and 21 for philadelphia. what we're going to be tracking today is a consistent cold. while we aren't looking at snow, we pushed that out of here. we're not tracking any clouds. the sunshine won't help us much today. we'll still keep temperatures only in the upper 20s to low 30s for highs. in philly as we track the next few hours we go from 21 right now to 22 at 7:00 a.m., by 10:00 a.m. 26. take a look what it feels like.

right around 13 degrees. that's because it starts to get more windy as we progress through the day. track out those wind gusts and more on your temperatures for saturday if you need get outside coming up. when we're not on the air you can stay on top of this weekend's cold weather and the snow that's expected with the nbc 10 app. 5:32 right now on this saturday. new from overnight. only nbc 10 cameras were there as choppers flu victims from a car crash to the hospital. this is in upper providence, montgomery county. one car crashed along blackrock road near 2nd avenue around 2:00 this morning. four people went to the hospital with serious injuries. three had to be flown by helicopter. we're still working to find out exactly what cause this car to crash. let's head to south jersey where an accident in oakland cents four information the hospital. one victim is in critical condition. this accident happened at the intersection of white horse pike and capital avenue just before 6:30 last night. six cars involved.

investigators tell us they are still trying to talk to eyewitnesses and ask anybody who saw anything to give them a call. a new lawsuit excuses a northeast philadelphia hotel of helping sex traffickers enslave a 14-year-old girl for years. lawyers claim the teen was forced to have sex with men two and three times her age at the roosevelt inn. the nbc 10 investigators found police and criminal records showed sex trafficking arrests at that hotel. the u.s. attorney's office would not comment on the possibility of criminal charges. in bucks county prosecutors there say they have not ruled out the death penalty in the case of the woman accused in the rape and murder of her adopted daughter. sara packer appeared in court in doylestown yesterday. a judge told her she did not have to be the person who killed grace packer to be accused of murder. her boyfriend strangled grace in july one day after he raped and beat her while sara watched.

here what lawyers on both sides of the case say about it. >> when we present the case it will be presented the good, bad, ugly and terrible. >> she's charged with a lot of things that we allege she did not do. >> jacob sullivan is set to appear in court later on this month. work will continue today in old city to remove dozens of coffins discovered during a construction project. the snow yesterday delayed the excavation on arch street. the coffins were part of the first baptist church burial ground established in 1707. records show the bodies should have been moved to a cemetery in west philadelphia in the 1860s but that did not happen. now back to our weather. feels like winter out there. winter is not letting go of its grip. but you can start to think spring, feel spring. get a look at spring at the

pennsylvania convention center. the philadelphia flower show opens its door in a few hours. randy gyllenhaal is live there this morning with a preview. randy? >> reporter: rosemary, when we were walking over here to the convention center it felt like 10 trees outside but the minute you walk inside it feels and smells like spring at the flower show. the theme of this year is called holland flowering the world, celebrating the dutch and country of holland. when you think about holland you might think about these wooden clogs that they are well-known for. they are also well-known for one of their main industries which is horticulture. one of the few countries whose main industry is flowers and that's the theme of the show this year celebrating the dutch and all of the netherlands. we'll catch up with allen jaffe who is the communications director for the flower show. tell me a bit about holland, why you chose that theme and the importance of that country in the horticulture world. >> holland was an easy pick for us. we've been thinking about it for

a couple of years. when you think about nation around the orlando known for a particular product, particular plant you think about holland, actu tulips and wonderful bulbs that come out of there. >> you can see beautiful within mills. great gala last night for folks to come check it out. aside from the dutch aspect of the show there's a sustainable farming, sustainable agricultural aspect. >> i like to say we celebrate the beauty of holland but what brains. they are very innovative people. they have been that way for serns. when you think about alternative sources of energy, they had wind mills for serns. that tradition of thinking about ways to live with the earth and eco-friendly ways. so, we have what we call the eco dome here. created last year in amsterdam and showcases the fantastic thoughts in green technologies and environmental living in

>> the still breezy. the blanks you see remember locations that are not reporting gusts or don't have gusty conditions currently just some breezes around 15 to 20 miles per hour. what's going to happen here, winds will crank up as we track along through your afternoon. so let's take a look. right now 15 to 20 mile-per-hour winds. that's through your morning hours. then we go into the later part of the today, 4:00 p.m. gusts to 35 miles per hour. up to 40 miles per hour gusts are possible. so it's going to be windy in the afternoon. unfortunately temperatures really don't climb much. we only get the upper 20s to low 30s. feel like temperatures around 20 this afternoon. tomorrow morning we're still breezy, gusts of 20 to 25 miles per hour. your weekend forecast.

here is a live look over the basilica of saints peter and paul in center city. a mass for healing and recovery will be held here today at noon. the archdiocese is asking anybody who was impacted by addiction to come and draw strength from each other. pope francis says he's open to the idea of allowing married men to become priests. the pope says he would consider the idea because of a shortage of priests in some parts of the world. but he would not allow single men to become priests and then get married later. the priests who lead the high

school says the pope are trying to make sure there's enough priests around the world. >> really if the eucharist is focal point of church life and not enough priests that's a serious situation. >> the archdiocese of philadelphia would not comment on the pope's remarks. okay. when we go to sleep tonight we, of course, want to make sure our clocks are set one hour ahead. i always set a back up alarm in case my cell phone doesn't go off because i wouldn't be here tomorrow marks the beginning of daylight savings time, 2:00 a.m. to be precise. the change will give you more daylight in the afternoon. that's great. also good because you can replace your batteries. nice reminder also for your carbon dioxide alarm. when we spring forward we'll lose an hour of sleep. chris clakum explains millions of americans are losing sleep every week of the year. >> reporter: right when we're springing forward to daylight

savings time comes a study that shows 75% of all americans missing at least one day of work a year, some missing up to five days just to catch up on sleep. >> so we're really talking about sleep deperipheralation. it's starting to reach epidemic proportions. >> reporter: this sleep doctor who has written several books on getting a good night's sleep saying the most common obstacle to sleeping well is treasure. >> one of the biggest things my patients can't turn off their brain at night. >> reporter: he also says not having the right mattress, sheet, pillow, lighting and sound can interrupt sleep as well as drinking caffeine and alcohol too close to bedtime. he says the best bet for good sleep is going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. >> the more consistent you are with that the more your brain actually knows when to sleep.

>> reporter: that should start this weekend even though the clock will read an hour later. chris clakum, nbc 10 news. i struggle with sleep deprivation as i'm sure many of us do. 5:47 right now anthony saturday. meteorologist krystal klei is awake, ready to tell us about the weather this weekend. we got another blast of cold air coming through and then we got this snow. i thought winter was over. >> i was kind of hoping it was too. i know a lot of people have been saying that. it's march. i don't want snow any more. warmest february we've ever seen over much of our area and now paying for it in march. here's a look at the temperatures right now. we drop to the 30s yesterday very easily with all that snow that moved through. right now it's 17 lehigh valley. 15 in the suburbs. philadelphia sitting at 21 degrees. that's the same for south jersey and the shore at 19 currently. let's take a closer look into our delaware neighborhoods.

21 in marshall. greenville at 19. mittletown at 22 degrees. cold. 22 for felton and lincoln 24 right now. remember it actually feels colder than this because we've got some breezy conditions. the wind chill factors in. take a look at our lehigh valley. reading at 18. cooks county at 16. hard to believe yesterday we were eyeing these to see if they were cold enough to support snow. now we're down into the teens. 14 in what nut and allentown checking in at 16 right now for the current temperature. radar and satellite it is clear for us current and what's going to happen today some scattered clouds pass by don't expect any snow, rain. we just stay cold and mostly clear. we go from 22 at 7:00 a.m. to 28 at 11:00 a.m. and just those low 30s in the afternoon. that's about as good as it gets for us. we'll see increasing clouds later today but scattered clouds still see peaks of sunshine.

suburbs 18 degrees 7:00 a.m. upper 20s at 11:00 a.m. in delaware, 27 for new jersey getting to 31 degrees and low 30s as well for some spots along the shore. other spots along the shore may cap out around upper 20s. remember like i mentioned we have this wind forecast for us. gusts around 30 to 40 miles per hour possible for us today. those wind speeds around 15 to 20 miles per hour. then we fast forward to that hour by hour for your monday evening into tuesday. so watch here. this is a different computer model than i showed the last half hour. i showed the difference between. >> even rain. we'll be tracking a storm center coming in from the west. at the same time a coastal low develops in the south. this is the recipe for a nor'easter to develop. what we got going on this system will be tracking up from the south and there you go by 7:00 a.m. tuesday, this model brings of the storm in a bit closer to

us. the result is for some rain, for others snow. we're talking potentially a lot of snow, especially because it's march. so we have to watch very closely. where that storm center comes off the coast goes. because if it's close to us some can see rain some see snow. further offshore different snow amounts for the whole area. that's what we're looking at right now. there's going hit. just determining who sees what at this point. >> that's what you were telling me a moment ago. we know somebody will get it. just a question of who and that's what you're over the next few days. >> right now it looks the highest potential as we track different models especially the european model whichly does very well for us philadelphia and areas north will have the best chance of snow at this point. >> thank you. this is sports desk brought to you by xfinity.

in bucks county hundreds of people showed their support during a coaches versus cancer fundraiser. auctions and other contests were held burgthe basketball game in langhorn last night. the event raised american cancer society. >> philly sports fans are showing their love for barwin who was released this week. nbc 10 cameras were there as barwin got a standing to aviation at last night's maxwell award in atlantic city. the defensive end spent four seasons in philadelphia before the eagles cut him. he had good things to say about the team and the support from the philly fans.
