people just trying to stay out of the rain. >> announcer: nbc 10 breaking news. we begin with breaking news out of kensington, where police are on the scene of a deadly accident. we're told a car hit and killed a pedestrian in the 500 block of east allegheny avenue. that driver did stay on the scene. but as you can see here, a large number of first responders still there, trying to piece this investigation together. and more breaking news right now. the westbound lanes of kelly drive are shut down because of an accident near fountain drive. a motorcycle required is in critical condition after colliding with a car. we'll keep you posted on any new developments with these breaking stories. also tonight, an officer's actions under fire. >> this arrest had a philadelphia community outraged. now it will cost one officer his job. >> the philadelphia police department has now suspended

officer james yeager and plans to fire him. nbc 10's brandon hudson joins us live at police headquarters with the details. >> reporter: jim and jacqueline, the mother who shot that video said she never thought it would be on the news or catch the attention of philadelphia police. but she's glad it did. screams echo on this kensington street as philadelphia police officer james yeager body slams a handcuffed man during an arrest. >> we see that all the time in our community. >> reporter: this time, ariel rivera caught it on camera. the video has led the police commissioner to suspend yeager with the intent to fire him. >> so how do you explain to your child that the police are here to protect us but people are being murdered by the police, people are being brutally beat down by police? >> reporter: last week police arrested the 22-year-old on drug charges. officers say he resisted.

rivera's video shows where it escalated. police say yeager put his night stick on his chest and slammed his head against the pool. >> this is something i posted on facebook for my friends and family to see. little did i know this would go viral and half a million people saw it. >> reporter: we went to yeager to get his side of the story. no one was home. despite all the attention rivera's video got on social media, she said eigit's tough f her to watch. but she's relieved her message isn't falling on deaf ears. >> people are hearing us, hearing our communities. >> reporter: i asked the police whether yeager is facing charges at this time. they said he is not. brandon hudson, live in philadelphia, nbc 10 news. a pleasant evening out there right now at the rink on penn's landing. >> first alert meteorologist glenn hurricane swartz is

tracki glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the rain. >> harrisburg is getting slammed by thunderstorms. that extends up to scranton. still not quite in berks county or lehigh valley or the poconos. but at least the recommemnants this are coming this way. here we are at midnight, 2:00 a.m., getting into berks county and the poconos, by 4:00 a.m., western suburbs. by 6:00 a.m., it's into the philadelphia area. if you wake up and it's raining or you're at the shore and you wake up at 8:00 and it's raining or cloudy, don't give up on the day, because this is all moving off. it's going to be a beautiful weekend, on the breezy side. much cooler than it has been. and much less humid. right now, we have temperatures in the 70s across much of the area. very comfortable. the ocean, a nice comfortable 76 degrees.

into these feels-like temperatures for tomorrow. that's in the afternoon. feeling like it's in the low 80s in the city and 70s elsewhere. but the rain will be returning. i'll tell you when, coming up. >> all right, glenn. now to a traffic alert on the schuylkill expressway. skyforce 10 over i-76 in the last half hour. cars near route 1 going nowhere, because of an ongoing repaving project. crews are repairing and resurfacing a 12 1/2 mile stretch of the business highway. new details about a driver who died after crashing into a bucks county business. nbc 10 was on the scene in quakertown after her car crashed into pool pro, causing an explosion. the owner tells us the loss of his business is nothing compared to the loss of a human life. >> somebody decide. and nobody else died. this could be rebuilt.

>> it's still unclear what caused the driver to crash. deleted text messages and stolen coins. tonight we know that's how police turned this former high school football star into a murder suspect. nbc 10 was the only tv station there as 20-year-old tyler dralle appeared in court. he's accused of killing deanna scordo on his parents' blueberry farm in south jersey. nbc 10's keith jones is in the studio with details. we've learned how the suspect and the victim are connected. >> we've learned dralle's girlfriend and brother worked at the farm and was known to drive her there. the judge said two weeks before the murder he allegedly admitted to assaulting someone. >> reporter: from atlantic county football star wearing blue to murder suspect in orange and silver. 20-year-old tyler dralle stood quietly as the state described how he and a 17-year-old allegedly shot and killed a woman here at her winslow

township blueberry farm. >> the 911 caller advised he was asleep. >> slow down. so you were sleeping and you woke up to two gunshots? >> yeah, my daughter is laying on the floor. >> and she's shot? >> yes. >> reporter: that was anthony scordo describing his daughter, 45-year-old deanna scordo, who didn't survive. her father saw two men. >> what were they wearing? >> black hoods. >> both in black hoodies? >> reporter: the investigation led them to dralle. prosecutors alleged the 20-year-old lied about his whereabouts and accused a 17-year-old who also has been charged. detectives asked for dralle's phone and days later he turned it over. >> text messages have been deleted. some of the messages were able to be recovered and they make numerous references to guns and robberies. >> reporter: the assistant camden county prosecutor says dralle was caught on surveillance video cashing in on some stolen coins taken from the

farm. we went to the 20-year-old's home last night but weren't greeted warmly. back in court, dralle seemed to bow before he headed to jail pending trial. >> we have somebody who has allegedly admitted to seriously assaulting somebody two weeks beforehand. i think that triggers concern on the court's part. >> dralle's lawyer maintains he wasn't at the farm that night. he was denied bail and faces at least 30 years in prison without parole if convicted. live in the breaking news center, keith jones, nbc 10 news. federal agents have joined the search for an arsonist in philadelphia. they say the culprits need to be found before someone really gets hurt. there have been seven arsons in the last month at the sterling apartments at jfk boulevard in center city. the latest was just last fight. today the atf announced a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. we have new video of a car wanted in connection with a hit and run that injured a

landscaper. it's described as a 2008 to 2014 dodge avenger. police want to find the driver. skyforce 10 was over the scene on jackson drive yesterday. authorities say the landscaper jumped onto the car after apparently seeing the driver steal his leaf blower. we're told the landscaper will be okay. a woman waiting for the bus ended up at the hospital instead, after she got caught in the middle of the a shootout. nbc 10 was on the scene this morning near the bus stop at broad and olney. the woman was shot in the wrist. police are hoping surveillance video will help them find the shooters. also tonight, mothers make a plea to stop the violence. this group gathered at wharton square park in south philadelphia as part of united in t unity in the community peace week. the mothers told stories of how they lost children to gun violence. a setback to neighbors trying to stop construction of a new pipeline. a judge has ruled sunoco can continue drilling in 16 locations including chester and

delaware counties. sunoco argued the work already done was unstable. the state had stopped construction on the pipeline after several complaints of contaminated water. new video tonight shows president trump arriving in new jersey for his 17-day working vacation. the president arrived at morristown municipal airport just before 5 conclu:00. he stepped off air force one with two of his grandchildren. the first lady and his daughter and son-in-law are also on the ship. his final destination, his private golf club in bedminster. local businesses have mixed feeling about all the attention that comes with a presidential visit. >> it means a lot for business because his secret service guys come here every day for lunch and dinner. that will help us out. also people come from all over, they want to see if they can get a glimpse of him. >> two local airports cannot allow any planes to take off or land while president trump is in town.

that trunk. amazingly, everyone survived. today the man behind the wheel appeared in court. he is charged with driving while intoxicated. toxic lagoon. sounds like the name of a more r horror movie, but officials are telling people to stay out of the lagoons after dozens of ducks, fish and crabs were found dead. township officials are waiting on more tests but say it could be an infectious disease in the water. also at the jersey shore, a bizarre sight on the beach. this woman thought it was a coyote but police tell us it's a baby fox, they say it's been roaming the area for most of the summer. it seems to be harmless but police have set traps to try to catch it. customers of a consignment shop say they've been ripped off. they say the store, called fresh milk in newark, closed suddenly before letting them come back to get their stuff.

pennsylvania state police. these are the boys and girls from troop k camp cadet. they took part in activities at gerard college in north philadelphia. the purpose of camp cadet is to build better relationships with police officers. it was a night of music and dancing in northern liberty. hundreds gathered in the piazza at schmidts commons. the event included performances by jimmy jorge and the latin express. you might start dancing after you hear the weekend forecast. let's get the details from first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> if you don't like the weather, just wait, it will improve. we have to get rid of the thunderstorms in harrisburg, some into the corner of berks county. lightning and thunder will wake some people up in the middle of the night. but it's the end of the

moisture. and as soon as this area comes through, we're going to be drying out. as we go through the night tonight, we'll see the areas in north philadelphia have the best chance of seeing the thunder and lightning. and there we are, 7:00 a.m., still maybe around philly and at the jersey shore. it's going to be moving out fast. they're clearing from west to east. we're going to have a northwest wind. it will be a little gusty tomorrow. nowhere near as warm or humid. it won't feel like summertime very much. then we have dry weather for the rest of the weekend. temperatures in the 70s right now across the area. it's going to stay in the 70s a good bit of tomorrow. then on sunday, we've got that beautiful saturday afternoon, sunday morning, sunday afternoon. and here comes sunday night. and into monday. the next system comes in, and this one's got a lot of rain with it. there we are, midday and into

a once in a lifetime opportunity is on the horizon for parts of the u.s. >> a total solar eclipse will occur later this month. millions of people are expected to be hitting the roads to find the perfect spot for viewing. a ribbon of darkness 70 miles wide will move from oregon to south carolina in a little more than two hours.

john brewster has been planning for this moment for decades, even building his home in the path of the eclipse. >> we've been planning for all these years to be ready for the big great american eclipse. >> all this work for two minutes, i'm like, yes! >> and this will be the first eclipse since 1979. so unfortunately, this area will not see the total eclipse. but according to glenn schwartz, we'll get about 79%, not too bad. >> no matter where you watch the eclipse, do it safely. wear protective glasses or watch from a safe place like the franklin institute. check out glenn's blog on our website,, for more information. he built his home in the path of the eclipse. i'm still trying to process that information. alshon jeffery's nagging injuries are behind him or so we think. plus we'll find out who returned to the field today. and carson wentz' only focus is on his game action. he speaks on the task ahead, next in sports.

we hope you're enjoying your friday night. it's been over seven months since carson wentz has thrown a pass against an opponent. that will come to a close six days from now as the eagles open up a slate of games against the green pay pabay packers, a game can see on nbc 10. the sam bradford situation worked itself out. wentz spent time working on his mechanics and footwork and we'll finally get a true measure of the progress he's made when he laces them up at the not so frozen tundra of lambeau field.

>> that's the nature of training camp, you're excited. green bay coming, then we have our sights set on washington, week one. at the same time, we try not to get ahead of ourselves. we're still in training camp mode. you have to fight that battle every day. >> staying with the birds, wide receiver alshon jeffery missed a fourth straight day with a shoulder injury. peterson says the injury is no longer an issue and that today was more of a rest day. the birds are off tomorrow before their second open practice sunday at 10:00 at the link. legarrette blunt returned to practice today after missing days due to personal reasons. he was signed after winning the super bowl with the patriots last year when he led the league in rushing touchdowns. check this out, to end eagles practice, a couple of big boys backed the return punt.
