laguardia, i don't think so. the record 1. i'm forecasting three. central park 2 degrees. bridgeport crushes the record right now 3 degrees i'm forecasting 4 below zero. jfk 4, break it with 2. islip the record 7 and you crush it with 2 degrees below zero. wind chills will be the issue this weekend. because again the temperatures will be cold. the winds are strong. we have wind chill warnings and advisories for the entire area. take a look at what the temperatures will feel like late saturday into sunday around the city points south even east. 15 below to 25 below zero north of the city 20 below zero to 30 below zero. there's a warmup out there. it's not far off into the distance so sit tight. we'll talk about that coming up. >> ably the weather is colds the most important thing is staying warm. >> vanessa murdoch doing just that with the mobile weather lab in columbus circle right now. >> reporter: staying warm will be a challenge as weigh move forward. we are with the mobile weather lab here. take a look at the current conditions.

winds are on the calm side so we are measuring a wind chill of about 2 degrees. as we look across the region though you will see those wind chills drop on off. temperatures across the region right now in the teens and 20s. but the wind chills are in the singling digits and teens and we know the temperature is only going to go down from here. those wind chills will feel like 20 below zero. by tomorrow night in some could feel as cold as 50 below zero. prepare for it. as a result of the incredibly cold temperatures, the city has issued a code blue. the mayor is asking for new yorkers to take this weather very seriously. the fdny will check the hydrants at department of sanitation has salt trucks ready to go in case icing is a problem. we have been talking to new

the backup is a result of emergency repair work. tracee carrasco is inside penn people. >> reporter: a rough evening commute home for people here at penn station. take a look. this is the new jersey transit area. delays of up to 60 minutes because of some emergency tunnel. repairs will run through the evening rush hour. tickets will be cross-honored. lirr customers are having some delays as well and cancellations during this rush hour due to reduced capacity in the east river tunnel. so if you are traveling here out of penn station, plan some extra time. tracee carrasco, cbs 2 news. meantime tonight there's been another slashing in the city.

robbing and attacking a woman in the van ness section of the bronx. paula santos was slashed at morris park and holland avenues around midnight. she post the photos of the injury on facebook and said she was pushed, kicked and robbed. she said: tonight, a grieving family wants to know how and why a brooklyn woman died at a coney island hospital. her husband blames hospital staffers claiming that they mocked his wife and then ignored her as she lay dying in the emergency room last month. cbs 2's steve langford reports on this alleged wrongful death. >> she is not hooked up to anything. she hasn't seen no doctor. >> reporter: jorge matos struggling to describe his wife's last hours at the emergency room of coney island hospital a nightmare he says the moment they were rushed here by ambulance.

her head and the other four emts are tiger had up like a dog. >> reporter: matos along sides an attorney charging malpractice an wrongful death that began they say when staff at the emergency room that the woman was suffering a psychotic reaction to the drug k2 an alleged misdiagnosis accompanying by laughing and giggling on the part of emergency room staffers the husband says. >> the nurse says she look like she has been smoking synthetic weed. >> reporter: it was a possible case of meningitis that went untreated as her condition detieriors rated. a doctor not seeing his wife he charges until after she had her first heart attack in the emergency room. >> from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m., there were five cardiac arrests. >> reporter: the medical examiner's office says the death of the woman is still under investigation. and no conclusions have been made about the cause or manner of her death.

complaints with the state health department. they left her there to die. >> reporter: coney island hospital not returning our calls for comments. steve langford, cbs 2 news. >> family lawyers say they have not yet filed suit against the hospital for what happened there on february 1. the new york state department of health also has not yet responded to our calls for comment. a woman was mugged at gunpoint outside a green acres mall in valley stream long island. police say the 60-year-old woman was in the macy's parking lot yesterday afternoon when a man armed with a handgun approached her. he demanded her rings that and she gave them up. he ran from the scene. the woman was not hurt. claims of sexual abuse during class at a nassau county school. two females students say their substitute teacher touched them inappropriately. cbs 2's magdalena doris is in port washington with the story. >> he should not be near children. that's really what it is. he should not be near children. >> reporter: court documents say james ervin told victims

happened. the alleged abuse taking place inside of a classroom during class at a middle school. victims told police that the teacher touched their thigh, pelvis and buttocks and after asking him to stop, investigators say that's when the threats came. after posting bail set at $5,000, he made a quick exit from the nassau county district court house. he has been charged with two counts of sexual abuse, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child. his lawyer says the victims aren't being truthful. >> this is a fabrication. it's a complete and total fabrication. it's a bizarre set of circumstances to say the least. >> reporter: parents say it's a reminder to talk to your kids. >> we talked about the fact that there are these people out there and you have to be smart and be aware. >> reporter: the defendant has two orders of protection against him now. the school district says he is no longer working for them.

island, madalena doris, cbs 2 news. >> he is due back in court march 3. new traffic pattern on the upper west side has drivers upset. it part of the mayor's vision zero plan to make the streets safer for pedestrians. whose bright was this? sonia rincon reports. >> reporter: it's the latest change making it harder for cars to get around manhattan at the intersection known as the lincoln square bowtie. you used to be able to make a left on broadway going down columbus avenue. but now unless you're driving an mta bus you have to keep going south on columbus. we are continuing south on columbus avenue we run into this. construction that's taking up two how late of four lanes and we get stuck in the boat neck. >> it's brutal. i don't know what the mayor is thinking. >> we're balancing greenness and say. there are a lot of different issues. i don't think it's really fully thought through. >> it doesn't make sense. sometimes you have customers and they force you to turn.

plenty of drivers making the turn anyway. to make things more complicated at this intersection, if you coming south on broadway you can't make a left on 64th street. you see those cardboard covers under the stop light? they used to be turning arrows. a city council member says all these changes are because the bowtie used to have another name in the neighborhood. the suicide knot. >> between 2008 and 2012, there have been over 144 crashes with serious injuries and there was one fatality. so clearly, there was a need to do something. >> reporter: she says the department of transportation brought in street engineers who came up with the redesign but she heard from the drivers who don't like it. >> in fact, i asked the department of transportation to come back and look at that inconvenience and, um, explore ways to fix it. >> reporter: the department of trappings will keep monitoring the changes which are meant to make the whole area safer and less confusing and once the

year-old boy is accused of bringing a cigarette lighter to class at william paca middle school in shirley this morning. students tell us the boy and his friends were goofing around the corner purposely lit the girl's hair on fire. >> the teacher put it over her head. >> lit her on fire and she was running around because i guess she got mad at her. >> sources tell us the student accused of setting the fire has been suspended for the remainder of the school year. the victim's family plans to file charges. a victory tonight for staten island borough president james otto. a state supreme court judge says that he can proceed with unique street names at a new residential complex. a developer sued otto for names that mean greed, deceit, otto has been a vocal opponent of the complex which was built on the former jesuit retreat. he tried to save it from demolition. how about some tatoos to

whole foods is considering adding tattoo parlors to new stores targeting young shoppers. it's expected to including suppliers and vendors geared toward millennials. besides tattoo parlors whole foods could also add record shops and body care product lines. the first 365 store opens in los angeles in may. every year, a group of jersey city students opens their hearts and empties their pockets for a cause. a meg baker reports, they may teach us about charity and generosity. >> reporter: their pockets may not be full but their hearts are. these students at a school in jersey city hold a coin drive every year giving what little they may have to a good cause. >> we want to line the walls of the entire school with these hearts. >> reporter: the teacher says she is more amazed each year by their generosity. >> this year we decided to

wind, that 24 is going to drop precipitously. 24 feeling like 16 right now. for your weekend, 19 on the thermometer for saturday. 17 for your sunday. and again the coldest time period will be late saturday into early sunday where you could be down to 2 degrees in central park. negative numbers for many financial outside the city. speaking of outside the city going skiing for the long weekend, i know a lot of you probably have plans to do just that. it will be feeling like the single digits for saturday and sunday at the slopes in the poconos monday warmer 20 to 25 degrees better snow chance on monday in the poconos. the catskills the same deal. cold saturday and sunday, monday warmer. if you are going to vermont minus 5 to 5 on saturday. minus 10 to 3 on sunday. and then monday 20 to 25. keep in mind it's going to be cold if you are skiing. dress properly. i'm not saying don't go skiing. dress properly, all right? no exposed skin.

when this little sort of purple line there which shows some decent snow squalls comes through the area, you will see some snow squalls and you're going to watch those temperatures get really cold behind that front. so let's start talking about how we see things working out. some snow squalls as the front comes through. the next storm monday into tuesday. it's impressive. if this gets into our area at any time monday, you're going to hav snow. rain tuesday. it will be too warm. wait until you see what i'm forecasting for tuesday. 50 degrees! we are talking sunday morning at 2 degrees and 50 by tuesday. 4 hours a 48-degree temperature turnaround. all right. there you have it. the cold air is in place for the weekend. no ifs, ands and buts about it. the wind makes it feel worse. we have lots of wind chill advisories and warnings. saturday night into the first
