the city's shelter system. >> only about a third offer programs like this. this is the fourth shelter her and her son have been in the, the first to care about her son. >> in staten island, the bronx this is amazing. difference. >> i've been so proud of my son after he started coming here, my son he was never reaching for stuff, never. the moment i came and brought him here to my house, he is knocking everything out. a shelter kid himself he never had opportunities like this and been great for his kids especially his daughter. she was a shy girl, didn't know how to interact with other kids. the shelter director says offering educational programs is key to development. children lose out if they don't get it.
