is the fox25 morning news. >> catherine: good morning to you, thursday morning, the last day of 2015. >> sara: unbelievable. >> catherine: unbelievable. he new year's eve. i am catherine parrotta in for gene lavanchy. >> sara: and weather is the big story. everybody wants to know what to wear tonight. stormtracker meteorologist shiri spear tracking the temperatures this morning with at wet roads. a big concern for the commute, shir. >> shiri: i'll tell you what, for reference the perfect way to see how it will feel at midnight. it will feel exactly like how the temperatures are right now. nashua, new hampshire, point. so temperatures actually dropping this hour back down to lawrence. we have kind of been flirting with freezing. points north of boston. watch out for icy patches. steadiest rain southeastern mass. the south end of the pike is where you will find most of that wet weather. a little mist and fog to the north, but at 8:00 this morning

morning, temperatures finally climbing out of that freezing territory and bedfords for southeastern massachusetts. all lane plain south of the pike. by noonthyme, showers are done. showers will not last us any more than 10:00 this morning. by noontime, clouds are breaking up and temperatures that are in the lower 40s most spots and then during the afternoon, on and off clouds. and by 5 p.m., a lot of the suburbs dropping back into those 30s. highs 38 to 46 today. showers and fog before 10:00 this morning. it turns partly sunny. i have a look at that midnight forecast in just a few. now julie grauert with live drive time traffic. julie, what does it look like out there on the roads. >> julie: shiri, right now expressway is where i am seeing the highest volume. average speeds of 17 miles per hour as you head past morrissey boulevard. things are fine 1 and 93 south and zakim bridge.

will be enjoyed by so many here in copley square in just a couple of hours. one of many ice sculptures all around. this version of first night will be different. it is not run by the city itself this year. it will be concentrated on copley square and on boston common and that's where the police will be concentrated as well although they will also be throughout the city. commissioner evans as you first heard in a live studio interview on fox25 news yesterday believes that the city has a good security plan in place so you can expect to see uniformed and undercover officers saturating the streets and the t stop and you can expect to see bomb-sniffing dogs working as well. >> a lot of undercover officers out there. there is a lot of assets but i am very confident like any event if you see anything out of the aerd, they ought to say something.

encourages everybody to come on into boston to enjoy first night. and to do so you will want to know the schedule. we will go into all of what you need to know before you come into boston for first night. that is coming up in the next 30 minutes in our live report. live from copley square, michael henrich, fox25 morning news. times square is ready to party tonight. new york city officials promise the big apple will be one of the safest places to ring in 2016. here is what it looks like live right now if we can bring up those photographs. streets in and around times square will close this morning to set up barricades and from his checkpoints. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to see the annual ball drop alongside 5,000 police officers. and we do have some breaking news oversees breaking news overseas right now about the investigation into the paris terror attacks. belgium prosecutors say a 10th suspect has been arrested this morning. the man was born in belgium. he is in his 20s. police arrested him in the same

some of the paris attacksers lived. prosecutors say they are investigating numerous cell phones that were found during the search. the suspect will appear before a judge within the next five days. also overseas, brussels has cancelled their fireworks display because of threats of a terrorist attack. the mayor of brussels made the decision after meeting with law enforcement and decided it was not worth the risk. 100,000 people showed up for last year's festivities and the mayor said no way to check everyone. bill cosby is out on $1 million bail this morning. here is his mugshot after he was officially charged with sexual assault. the comedian was booked in pennsylvania for a crime that allegedly took place a decade ago. mary maloney has the latest. >> mr. cosby is charged with aggravated indecent assault. >> reporter: bill cosby entered a pennsylvania court room and

aggravated indecent assault. his bail was set at $1 million. ran dry i can't constant was the first woman to publicly come forward and accuse cosby of sexual assault. wednesday's charge comes from a 2005 civil suit filed by constant. in that statement, he admitted to buying prescription quaalude to buying prescription quaaludes to give to women. he said it was always consensual. >> mr. cosby urged her to take pills that he provided to her and take wine, the effects of which rendered her unable to move or respond to his advances move or respond to his advances, and he committed aggravated indecent assault upon her. some 50-plus women have alleged similar sexual assaults over a period of four decades. attorney gloria alred is representing many of those women. >> for many of my 29 clients who allege they are victims of bill cosby, seeing him

him face a trial is the best christmas present they have ever received. >> reporter: cosby's lawyer released a statement saying that the charges come as no surprise and are unjustified. a preliminary hearing is scheduled for january 14. i am mary maloney reporting. cosby lives in western massachusetts and several of his accusers are from new england. christina ruly of windham, new hampshire claim the comedian drugged and assaulted her in 19 drugged and assaulted her in 1965. she calls the arrest a significant day for her. seven other women filed a criminal lawsuit against cosby in massachusetts. the attorney tells fox25 that the criminal case will provide evidence to support their civil suit. hulu says will keep every episode of "the cosby show" available for customers to watch. several networks stopped showing programs of any program feature featuring cosby. netflix and amazon prime do not stream it but offer other ways to watch it.

mexico to avoid going to prison mexico to avoid going to the u.s. 18-year-old ethan couch and his mother were arrested. they brought her into the airport in los angeles. her son filed a motion to remain in mexico for just a few more days. new surveillance video show the pair casually shopping right before they were arrested. couch fled to mexico after violating his probation. he was convicted of killing four people in a drunk driving crash but only received probation because he said he was spoiled by his rich parents. happening today, a man who drove his car into a pond in hamilton is expected to be in court breaking on the fox25 morning news yesterday. our cameras were there as james chase walked out of the hamilton police department. police say he was drunk, speeding and did not have head lights on when the car plunged into the water. chase was not hurt, and the car was pulled from the pond a short time later. roads in the area were slick when the crash happened. happening this morning, police on the cape will

continue to search for a yarmouth man reported missing 11 days ago. william fleming's family said he was last known driving a pickup truck. police found that truck on a secluded road eight days later and aggressively searching the area ever since. more than 100 people on board a flight to maine are sleeping at hotels in rhode island. the pilot of an allegiant air the pilot of an allegiant airline plane from sanford, florida to bangor forced to make an emergency landing at t f green airport. some passenger smelled smoke in the cabin before the flight was diverted. >> my girls were sitting the back and they said it was really, really hot and smelled like smoke behind their feet. >> sara: fire fighters were waiting for the plane when it touched down. passengers have been booked on another flight which leaves at 11:00 this morning. new this morning the mbta sunday fire again. a new federal report says the t is not maintaining its tracks which isn't good news as we

fox25's jessica reyes live at the oak grove station in malden with reaction from commuters, jess? >> catherine, a new report means a number of serious safety issues with the t mainly with maintenance and services for disabled people. we spoke with a number of passengers here at the station at oak grove at the end of the orange line. many of them say they have not seen much of a change at all since last winter. >> with the worst of winter still ahead, a brand-new report is out saying the t still has a long way to go on a number of safety issues. >> i don't see any difference. i mean, the summer, you know, the last few weeks. they are always having a problem every day. >> reporter: the report was done by the federal transit administration and found a number problems number problems with the mbta, specifically its maintenance plan and service for riders with disabilities. riders we spoke to say they are nervous ahead of the next few months. >> they are sporadic, you know what i mean.

going to come. >> reporter: among the problems the agency found, the mbta lacks maintenance plans for subway and trolley tracks. the ride which is the door-to-door service uses for disabled riders and boston harbor cruises that operates the mbta ferry boats. the oak grove station in malden was mentioned by name in that report saying it was not accessible at all for disabled riders right now. >> a ramp or get over to the elevator. they struggle to get over to the elevator and on and off of it. >> and the mbta says be exorbitantly expensive to get everything up to par. coming up in 30 minutes, how much they say this could all cost. live in malden, jessica reyes, fox25 morning news. new at 6:00, another high-rise may change the skyline over the back bay. according to the globe, boston properties filed a notice with the cities to build a tower above back bay station between clarendon and dartmouth streets

6:15. meteorologist shiri spear here and the showers continue to sink south of boston. a little mist still in the city and some fog. the steadiest rain falling from the south shore over to providence, rhode island and down to the south coast. a local mother hopes to reunite with a good samaritan who helped her family after a car accident. maria benway lost control of her car on interstate 495. the car skidded off the road and crashed into a tree. a nursing student saw the accident and stopped to help. she called 911 and kept benway she called 911 and kept benway's children calm. >> i am freaking out, and i have the kids in the back. and i am trying to calm the kids down and having another person who understands because she is a mom, is really, like

she did for me. >> catherine: benway used face book to find the woman and they days. a 10-year-old used lessons he learned at school to save his brother after carbon monoxide went through their house. he woke up to hear a beeping. he knew it was the carbon monoxide because of a state-funded program he did at school. his 5-year-old brother his 5-year-old brother josh was the only other person in the home and he woke up and woke him up. >> he saved my life. >> sara: josh heard the beeping but was half asleep and went back to bed before he came in to wake him up. the fire chief is planning to recommend braden for a reward with the state for his bravery. acton fire fighters battle a dangerous situation. one of their fire trucks caught fire. the chief tells us fire

brighter and drier weather just hours away. so hold on through this kind of foggy and wet morning commute. >> reporter: that's right. between 7 and 10, showers are gone, and by noontime, julie, the clouds will break apart. a world of difference. like completely different day, but right now in boston, visibility, hey, has gone up just a touch here. now one and a half miles. temperature has not moved. we are still at 34 in boston which means we are just above freezing so not worry freezing so not worried about ice in the city itself, but we do have to watch points north of boston where we still have that 32. that 32. couple of readings at 31 degrees in southern new hampshire. drive by 8 a.m. in boston. even now has dissipated into a mist. clearing and 30s for your night clearing and 30s for your night. friday, watching for flurries and possibly a quick snow squall friday night which is a brief burst of snow that will impact one or two towns total in southern new england. hard to forecast those.

tons and tons of clouds. wet weather kind of limited. steadier rain focus over southeastern massachusetts now and i do realize quite damp along the mass pike and north of the pike. and you are going to catch a lot of spray from other vehicles on the car. so just remember, you are driving in, and you are using the windshield wipers this morning and watch out for areas like fitchburg at only 32 degrees right now. one of the spots where we are still freezing and temperatures will be close to freezing around 8 a.m. after that above freezing. upper 30s. that's it for your highs in the fitchburg area. boston at 34 degrees now. not going to be freezing there. we have got the potential for a little drizzle through about 8:00 this morning, but then we are dry. look how nicely it brightens up this afternoon. partly sunny. and for the afternoon, we got middle 40s. it is going to be even a little bit milder in spots like plymouth at 42 with rain and fog right now. it is going to take until mid afternoon to really truly start

and good morning, everyone, and happy new year's eve. i am sara underwood. >> catherine: i am catherine parrotta in for gene lavanchy. a cold morning. kind of dismal when i was on my way in. we will see a warm-up for tonight's celebration. storm tracker meteorologist shiri spear is here with your new year's forecast. >> shiri: things will dry out into your new years. fog and showers. even a couple of ice he spots. visibility down a mile in beverly and lawrence and close to that in boston and new bedford. going to be kind of one of those yucky starts to the day. light rain for marshfield to plymouth to new bedford and fall river, but upper 30s, lower 40s mean there are no icing concerns right here in southeastern massachusetts. and we have got, of course, that mist and drizzle that continue for the cape. even boston kind of misty right now at 34 degrees. check out these freezing places like millis, 32. framingham, 32. same for lowell and haverhill to pelham, new hampshire up to

run until 2 a.m. most of the lines will run on a modified weekday schedule. if you are driving, feed the meter. the regular street parking meter rules are in effect. when it comes to the celebrations, the music starts at noon. at 6 p.m., the parade goes from here at copley down boylston to the boston common. and then there are two fireworks displays right at the end of the parade at 7:00 on the common, there will be that family-friendly fireworks show, and family time friendly fireworks show and, of course, the main event over the harbor at midnight. a light show here at copley square. boston mayor marty walsh is encouraging people to come in for a fun, safe night. >> come out and, again, enjoy the city of boston. i think it has been said several times if you see something out of the orlando, grab a police officer. you will see one on the street. call 911, we follow up on

last year's festivities and the mayor said there is no way to check everyone. following dozens of allegations, bill cosby has now officially been charged with felony sexual assault. the actor and comedian is out on $1 million bail this morning on $1 million bail this morning. he was charged with three counts yesterday stemming from a 2005 lawsuit by andrea constan. she was the first woman to come forward and accuse cosby of sexual assault. 50 him all seen here have accused cosby of assault over four decades. a hearing will be set for january 14. new this morning, the mother of a texas teenager who fled to mechanicco to avoid going to prison is now back in the u.s. 18-year-old ethan couch and his mother were arrested earlier this week. u.s. marshals brought her into the airport in los angeles around 3:00 this morning. her son filed a motion to remain in mexico for a few more days. new surveillance video show the pair casually shopping before

couch fled to mexico after violating his probation. he was convicted of killing four people in a drunk driving crash, but only received probation because he said he parents. police are trying to determine what caused the crash that nearly killed four secret service agents. those agents were protesting former secretary of state hillary clinton. they were driving in wakefield, new hampshire monday when another car crossed 9 another car crossed the double yellow line and slammed right into them. police believe the driver of that car 45-year-old bruce danforth had just passed another car before the crash. danforth was killed on the scene and police said he should not have been behind the wheel. >> mr. danforth did not possess a valid driver's license at the time of the accident. mr. danforth was known to us and he has an extensive criminal history. >> sara: investigators are awaiting for a toxicology report for danforth's autopsy.

seriously hurt. state police are looking for the car that was passed or anyone else who may have seen the car before the crash. a local mom shaken up after a man nearly broke into her home while she was inside with her little boy. the man tried to get in by busting through the ac unit. it happened at her home on west broadway in boston when she was for bed. when she heard the man trying to come in through the window, she fought back. >> i looked out the shed, and i saw the guy and was like, whah! at this point pushing in my ac and at the same time i was pushing it out toward him. >> catherine: she said that man eventually walked away and police have somebody in custody this morning. a new report this morning say that mbta is putting safety at risk for failing to maintain trains and tracks. jessica reyes is live at oak grove station in malden and one of the t stops mentioned in this. >> reporter: sara, the oak grove station in malden, the

coming up in 30 minutes, i am hearing from some riders who say the services for disabled people is seriously lacking at the oak grove station. live, jessica reyes. a boston bar where a man was killed on thanksgiving will not face any judgment. mbta officer was shot outside the entrance of who's on first on youngkey way. owners of the bar and before a licensing board. the board ruled no connection between the bar and the shooting. the bar said it was an unforeseeable offense. they and before the licensing board at least eight times. a new report show boston had fewer murders and more convictions than other cities its side. they report 14 fewer homicides in the hub this year. officers investigated 54 murders in 2014 and 40 in 2015 murders in 2014 and 40 in 2015. of those cases 80% resulted in convictions.

8 a.m., i still have a couple of sprinkles out there down across the cape and the south shore. but look how quickly it exits the area by 10 a.m. showers are gone. clouds are breaking up. and we deal with partly sunny skies from noontime and beyond. into the afternoon, it is looking decent out there. the further north you go. the more clouds you will bump into. but at midnight tonight, not a raindrop or a snowflake out there. it is just a few clouds. the wind not going to be an issue either. as far as new england, new year eve goes, this will be two thumbs up and a good one. 36 degree right now in boston. visibility going up again this half hour. so we have continued to see slight improvements. visibility up to two miles now which isn't great but not that bad. it is not sense fog by any means. it is just going to be kind of foggy and damp out there now in 8 a.m., 36 degrees. boston is not freezing. areas north of the mass pike, we have towns and cities sprinkled in there at 32

fo a littleton man risks his thrive retrieve his drone that landed in the middle of a froze landed in the middle of a frozen pond and he walked on the ice to get it back. after a few steps in, he fell right through the surface. the fire chief said the man went in up to his knees and was able to get out on his own. fire fighters recommend flying drones in fields and other open areas to avoid getting into a dangerous situation. worcester city manager admits that the city should have done a better job preparing for this week's snow. he addressed city residents in this letter posted on the city's twitter account. didn't have enough dpw crews in place to prepare for the brought. many of the streets were covered in slush and ice. to fix the problem crews in worcester were salting the roads all day yesterday. the driver of this minivan wellesley. you can see why.
