going to clip us into the evening hours. and then number two over the midwest. that's coming in overnight tonight. and then we're talking about some snow. so i'm going to time all that have out for you straight ahead. we are seeing temperatures on the quiet cold side, watch out for any slick spots. we did have of course the rain and snow yesterday. some areas below freezing. keep an eye on that early morning sunday. day planner today, into boston we go, chilly weather, mid 30s, giving way to increasing clouds this afternoon. our chance of snow really doesn't appear until late today into the night. again, i'll time out the snow amounts and how much you can expect in your neighborhood coming up. >> heather: all right. jason, i good he is it's that time of year. developing this morning, the middlesex district attorney is confirming the deaths of two people inside a waltham home. >> it's being looked at as a murder suicide.

in waltham and police found the bodies yesterday afternoon and investigation happened well into the night. >> reporter: and they actually spent hours gathering evidence. i'm outside of police headquarters this morning. we were called to that home around 5:00 yesterday afternoon and that's when they found the two people dead inside. this is a look at video from when our crews arrived at that scene yesterday, hours, again, spent hours -- officers, rather, spent hours going through that home. and it. as they were focusing their investigation on the first floor of that home. so far the police haven't released the names of people involved or a possible motive. those are questions we'll be asking the d.a.'s office today. however, our crews spotted an officer taking yellow markers into that home and those markers are typically used to indicate bullet shells. but police haven't said exactly how those people died. we did speak with neighbors yesterday.

colorado and if steelers win, they'll host the game. >> heather: choppy water off the coast of hawaii, still complicating the search for survivors in that marine corps helicopter collision. take a look. searchers are trying to maneuver through 30 foot waves that are also carrying the debris further from the crash site. a dozen marines were on board including a hingham native. they all remain missing after thursday's crash. that hingham native, christopher orlando is a 2010 graduate of hingham high school and his family is still holding out hope he's still alive. >> michael: the iran prisoner swap, a hingham native is among the five americans set free as part of that deal. matthew trevithick spent 40 days in an iran prison. his parents said he wanted to use his passion to create unity

he entered iran in september as part of a four month language program. he was detained but iran has still not said why. fox 25 was there when the parents heard about the good news. >> we're really excited he's coming home and we're grateful home. >> michael: while we know trevithick is on his way home it's not clear when he'll make his way back to massachusetts. we'll stay on it. washington post reporter jason, an idaho native. he was held for nearly 18 months and convicted on. his wife says him coming home is an answer to her prayers. know. >> it was an amazing moment. i ran and said, daddy is coming

he's free. 7:30 on the weekend and they're usually just like, leave us alone. and they jumped up, they were jumping, dancing. >> michael: some iranians in the u.s. will get clemens see. the move comes after the nuclear watch dog agency says iran has complied with the first phase of a monumental nuclear deal reached last year. that agreement was used to restrict iran's nuclear program. the development yesterday marks the most significant change in the iran u.s. relations in the last 25 years. >> heather: many presidential candidates have been critical of that nuclear deal ever since it was reached and wasted no time chiming in on the prisoner release. >> the fact of the matter is, this is all we need to know, that they take people hostage in order to gain concession. >> we give them $150 billion. we give them essentially 22 people, 21, 22 people. but these are people that really

she wanted to kill herself. police broke down that door and the woman charged at them with that large knife right there. that's when officers fired bean bags and they were able to knock hands. she was taken to the hospital for evaluation. >> michael: healthy addicts kick the habit instead of throwing them in jail. a local town is creating their own version of gloucester's ground breaking program. there is one major difference. the champion plan needs volunteers like you. brockton's mayor announcing that plan on social media saturday, he's asking people to act as so called angels. the in the past 3 days, 33 people overdosed in brockton. anyone interested in becoming an angel can fill out this application. it asks for availability, prior experience and any familiarity with local treatment options. >> heather: we now know the cause of a fire that left a

throughout her entire body. it was started by smoking materials with a couch on fire at that home right there. 43 allison was on that couch. she was able to run to a relative's home next door for helpful this morning, she remains in critical condition at rhode island hospital. >> michael: a crash victim found 10 hours after his car went off the road. it happened in enfield new hampshire saturday night. he was on 89 south when that crash happened. when fleece arrived, of he was not with his car. they found him in the nearby woods. he was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. >> heather: new this morning, birds from nine more commercial turkey farms in indiana are have tested positive for the bird flue. hunting bird indiana that authorities previously announced were infected and the state board of health says testing is underway to determine the strain of the highly contagious virus. they're still trying to figure

>> heather: time now 6:14. and a tragic investigation going on this morning after a baby was found dead in an apartment. this started late last month in worcester. the "telegram" and gazette there had told police had child had gone to sleep around midnight. and then the father noticed the hours later. now doctors say there were no signs of trauma and at this point no charges filed but an autopsy is pending. >> michael: the search

men who beat and robbed an elderly man in methuen. the 3 -- 77-year-old victim spoke with fox 25, saying the three men blind sided him in a parking lot saturday night. they punched and kicked the man before running off. a shocking attack that the friends and neighbors cannot believe. >> couldn't believe it. he don't bother nobody. >> he was punched several times, kicked in the face. >> michael: methuen police are work to go generate leads in the case. around the same time police tried stopping a gray honda civic for a moving violation but the car would not stop. meanwhile, the victim says he is feeling better. >> heather: it might feel like something out of a movie but in the coming years, we could expect to share the road with self-driving cars. it's something the government is going to prepare to spend big bucks on in order to get it right.

secretary says he doesn't went to get in the way of driverless cars. they're on the road in california and texas, though always with a human at the wheel. anthony fox announced a plan to spend nearly $4 million to test and develop guidelines for driverless cars. the proposal would be included in the president's 2017 budget due next month. he says the cars on the road could reduce accidents and road congestion, auto safety experts say regulations are racing to keep pace with technology. >> we don't want to be beta testing 5,000 pieces of equipment rolling down the road at 70 miles per hour. >> reporter: the obama administration will work with auto makers and state governments on a national policy. guidance is likely within six months. the push comes as we get a look at google's driverless record in california showing improved

i'll time that out for you. we also have wind and bitter weekend. by monday night, really going to be feeling the changes. let's take a look back at yesterday real quickly. southern new hampshire. this one in from sarah and just there. we could see more scenes like that as we head into our martin luther king, jr. holiday. we are clear from the pike south ward, wake up with a little bit of sunshine but notice batches of clouds still you can lurking about. especially the cape and islands. 24 logan and 34 hyannis as well. many spots still below freezing so watch out for a couple of left over slick spots of course with all of the rain and snow yesterday. it's a chilly day. clouds will start to build in so i don't expect a big time temperature recovery.

pretty much holding steady in the middle 30s. high temperatures up to 36 say around falmouth and 37 back to new bedford, back here guard near 34 degrees all of these running seasonably chilly for the day today. let's look at future cast, here's system number one in florida. now it's going to pass by to our east may clip our south coast with at least a chance of some snow as we head into the early evening tonight the. there's 6:00 this evening, notice the cape and islands just a chance for a light dusting. then heading into the night tonight, the system comes out of the great lakes, a lot of developing. we'll be watching very closely with where a coastal trough makes that up and that's going to dictate where we see heavier snow squalls try to develop. here's the european, looks like a good shape, inch or two in

we're pinpointing that, again, start to see one of those coastal troughs develop into the night tonight and into tomorrow. overnight lows, boston at 28, even see a freeze the cape and islands. certainly cold enough for all of us to get snow. the snow moves out of here tomorrow afternoon. then the winds come in, check this out. 5:00 monday. 20 miles per hour winds. that's going to lead to the wind chill problems. not so much tomorrow morning. but watch what happens as we head into the afternoon. single digit wind chills and even subzero wind chills by tuesday morning. so we'll really have to bundle up back at it tuesday morning. there's your sunday, the snow coverage coming up here the next couple of hours and into the morning time tomorrow, i should say. by the end of next week, we're already tracking our next nor'easter that could be moving in. i'll have more on that as we get closer. >> heather: all right.

. >> michael: welcome back, a young boy making a difference by helping wounded veterans. the brockton 10-year-old created a nonprofit to help them deal with ptsd. mark ockerbloom reports, a part of the process is matching them with pets. >> reporter: he wanted to make an impact in his community, his goal to raise money for paws for pets, a north carolina organization that specializes in special service dogs. a few months back, he was post-traumatic stress disorder and came across a story about the program and from that moment mission. >> a girl was raising money for her dad to get a ptsd dog.

>> reporter: back in october, zeke and his mom created janice, hi five for soldier which creates a fund for service dogs. >> he came home from school one day, i was reading about service dogs for ptsd that's what i want to do. i knew nothing about it and i said, okay, that's we see what we can find out. >> reporter: following her tour, she suffered from ptsd and paired with a service dog from paws for pets. >> during my tour in afghanistan, one of my best friends was killed while i was there. >> reporter: cowboy is a dog in training, named after the call sign or nickname during the war. and funded through the high five for soldiers program. >> it's really powerful to me to have his name brought back and have that call sign come back to life and change it from meaning something so sad and such a

and the bodies found in a waltham home yesterday afternoon. >> michael: fox 25 stephanie coueignoux is live in waltham where, stephanie, police were on the scene well into the night. >> reporter: and michael, police spent hours gathering evidence at that home on forest street. as you can see, i'm here this morning outside of police head quarters. they were first called to that home around 5:00 yesterday afternoon. and that's when they discovered those two people dead inside. take a look, though. this is video just after our crew arrived at that home yesterday afternoon. and it appears that police were focusing their investigation on the first floor of that home. so far police haven't released the names of the people involved or a possible motive. and those are questions that we will continue to ask the district attorney's office today. however, our crew spotted an officer taking yellow markers into that home. and those markers are typically used to indicate bullet shells.

and it's going to be a bitterly cold end to our holiday weekend here by tomorrow night. so i'll tell you more about those wind chills that we'll be feeling. temperatures right now in the upper 20s and lower 30s. in fact, norwood at 27 degrees. so seasonably chilly. there could still be slick spots on the roads because we had all of that rain and snow mixed yesterday. that could be freezing up this morning. so a heads up for drivers early on. we'll be in the mid 30s for highs today, and keep it drive in places like norwood for the auto early evening. but i do want to take you southeast, the cape and islands and south coast where we could see snow moving in here as we head into the early evening. right now 37 nantucket. pretty much what you see what is you get on the temperatures. clouds build up later in the day. and snow chance start to reappear. mid 30s, it's chilly out there.

the early evening tonight. overnight into tomorrow morning, snow squalls scattered light snow amounts coating to two inches in most spots. the higher terrain, north and west, the cape could get higher amounts with this event. overnight lows tonight, down into the low to mid 20s. freeze. winds tomorrow, 1, 2 in the afternoon, around 20 miles an hour, higher at the shore line. wind chills. so really want to layer up starting midday tomorrow right through monday night into tuesday. look at these wind chills, monday at 4:00, single digit readings is what what it's going to be feeling like. subzero wind chills by tuesday morning. so lots of extra layers, the hat, the gloves, the scarves and looks like a fairly dry week ahead, just a cold week after we get through about monday afternoon.

light today. increasing clouds. and our chance 6 snow staying away for the most part until 6, 7:00, that's the south shore first. and then into the night tonight, that chance begins to rise. talk about who can see the most in a few minutes. >> heather: thank you, jason. developing this morning, the middlesex county district attorney is confirming the death of two people after they were found yesterday inside a waltham home. >> michael: this morning, those deaths are being looked at as a murder suicide. fox 25 stephanie coueignoux is live in waltham. and stephanie, police found the bodies yesterday afternoon and their investigation lasted well into the night. >> reporter: and michael, police spent hours gathering evidence at that home on forest street. as you can see this morning, i'm live outside the police headquarters. they were called to that home around 5 yesterday afternoon and that's when they found those two people dead inside. this is video that you're seeing right there. this is when our crew arrives at

and it appears that police were focusing their investigation on the first floor of that home. so far this morning, police still haven't released the names of the people involved or a possible motive. and those are questions that we're asking the district attorney's office today. however, our crews spotted an officer taking yellow, makers into that home. and these are markers that are typically used to indicate bullet shells. again, police also haven't said exactly how those people died. we did speak with a neighbor. now they didn't want to go on camera. but one couple told us a married couple lives in that home. d.a.'s office also wanted to stress that this was an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger. we're continuing to reach out to the middlesex county district attorney's office this morning. still early on this sunday morning. as soon as we receive an update, we will let you know. coming up in 30 minutes, the evidence we saw police taking

continues this morning, for three men who beat and robbed an elderly man in methuen. 77-year-old victim spoke with fox 25 off camera saying the three men blind sided him with an attack after he got items from his car in a parking lot around 8:30 friday night. they punched and kicked a man before running off with his things. it's a shocking attack that his friend and neighbor can't wrap his mind around. >> i can't believe it. he don't go after nobody. >> he was a robber, he was taken to the ground. he was punched several times, kicked to the face. >> michael: police are working to generate leads in the case. around the same time, they tried stopping a gray honda civic for a moving violation but the car didn't stop. the victim says he is feeling better. >> heather: it may sound like something out of a movie but in the coming years, we can expect to share the road with self-driving cars. which jacqueline tells us the government is expected to pay big bucks on it in order to get it right.

8:00, our forecast model showing that chance for a snow shower or two as we go down to the cape and islands, a better chance to see a few snow showers a little earlier this the evening. right now 34 and then at 6:00, that chance beginning to enter the picture for a few flakes along the south coast. so let's go to boston. the day planner today is just chilly. clouds start to build in. enjoy the morning sun. it's dry, 38 degrees 2:00. in the evening, watch out for that snow chance beginning to move back in. high temperatures, lower 30s, worcester to orange, mid 30s, norwood to plymouth. and chatham at 30 degrees today. over florida, that's going to pass largely to our south. system number two over the great lakes will really help to increase our snow chance overnight and into tomorrow. so there's system number one passing by here. there's 6:00, but notice our south coast starting to see a few snow showers. the model paint a little rain out here along the cape.

better to go ahead and paint all snow on this map. there's monday morning. waking up with some scattered snow showers. as far as of amounts, it looks like a coating to 2 inches is likely area wide. but notice where we're seeing the higher amounts, the higher terrain north and west, possibly parts of southern new hampshire, but also a bit of a bull's eye here, the vineyard and the cape because that coastal trough may set up a difference between warmer and cooler air and that could help to bump up some of the those snow totals in that area. waking up tomorrow morning in the mid to low 20s. it's going to be seasonably cold and the winds will start to kick in after sunrise tomorrow. so 2:00, 20 miles an hour winds area wide. so we're going to start seeing wined chills become a problem, especially midday into the afternoon tomorrow. there's monday at 4:00 on our holiday monday. we're seeing wind chills in the single digits. pretty much area wide. and then subzero wind chills

and it appears that police were focusing their investigation on the first floor of that home. so far this morning, police haven't released the names of the two people involved, how they died or a possible motive. those are questions that we're asking the district attorney's office this morning and as soon as we get an update, we will let you know. however, our crew did spot an officer taking yellow markers into that home and these yellow markers are typically used to indicate bullet shells. but, again, police still haven't said exactly how those people died. we also spoke with a neighbor. now, they didn't want to go on camera, but approximate one woman told us, a married couple lives in that home. the d.a.'s office also wanted to stress that this was an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger. and, again, as soon as we get an update, we will let you know. coming up in 30 minutes, the evidence we saw police taking from that home. in waltham, i'm stephanie

evening, a few flakes flying. possibly early vineyard here. 37 degrees and warming up just a few more degrees and that's about all today. and then by 5:00, a chance of a few snow showers already appearing for the island. so afternoon highs in the low to mid 30s from worcester to boston. we'll be up to 34 in lawrence and clouds starting to build in. so it's just going to feel like a chilly afternoon for us. here comes our first system. that's going to pass by largely to our south. but i do think as early as about 5, 6:00, a few snow showers brushing the cape and islands. and then our next system comes in overnight from the great lakes. and that really helps to get heavier bands of snow going. and we'll watch carefully because along the coast we could see a trough set up where winds are meeting up and looks locally higher ams of snow. so overall a coating to two inches is likely. but you see how the model is painting higher amounts along the eastern shore line, possibly down towards the cape and islands as well.

>> heather: thank you, jason. to developing news we're following all morning long. two people dead in a possible murder suicide in waltham. >> michael: fox 25 stephanie coueignoux is live outside of the police station where she's been all morning. stephanie, police took some items from the house after it all ended. >> reporter: and michael, our crew actually saw police taking two rifles from that home on forest street. again, i'm outside police headquarters as they continue their investigation. and this morning, still a lot of questions remain. police haven't released the names of the two people involved how they died or any information about a possible motive. but take a look. this is some video after crews arrived at that scene yesterday afternoon. police say someone had called them at about 5:00 in the afternoon. and asked them to check on the people living in that home on forest street. while we arrived, that's when officers found two people dead inside. again, this morning, the district attorney's office says

suicide. now, aside from the two rifles police took of out of that home, we also saw police taking two bocks as well. in a statement overnight, the d.a.'s office stressed this is an isolated incident, the public is not in any danger. we also spoke with a neighbor. she didn't want to go on camera. but she did tell us that a married couple lives in that house and we're continuing to reach out to the district attorney's office to get more information as soon as we get an update, of course, we'll let you know. in waltham, i'm stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 news. >> heather: to other news, this is new this morning. an american is among the victims of a deadly terror attack at a west african hotel. we've now learned that 45-year-old michael riddering. was there. he was a missionary in burkina faso. he is a florida native and running an orphanage and a woman's crisis center with his wife. riddering was killed in a cafe that was attached to the hotel

for this sunday for a change. snow developing this evening into the early night hours and wind and bitter cold as we round out this holiday weekend. so i'm going to have all of these numbers for you coming up. temp right now 35 in boston. started out with a bright sky. right now the skies begin to thicken up a little bit here ahead of our next storm system back to our south and west currently sitting at 39 in worcester. temperatures won't warm up much more today. we'll climb today in the mid 30s. hold it there because the cloudsic thissen up. notice by 9:00, snowflakes in the out look. and we'll see that happen a little bit sooner in places like the vineyard and nantucket. sitting in the mid 30s here and warm into the upper 30s and then start to see a few flakes possible as early as 6, 7:00, southern areas impacted first for a chance of some snow and middle of the night, that chance starts to increase even more. afternoon highs, there you go

you see is what you get. we'll have those numbers up encloses to 40 around nantucket. that will be the warmest spot on the map. second system back to the west. they're all converging on southern new england. the first one passes by to our south. the bulk of the precipitation of that out over the atlantic. we do get clipped here, south earn this areas and coastline with some of that moisture. there's that snow chance at midnight. if we see heavier bands set up along the coast. we could get, two, three, ams. cold front moving in early tomorrow morning with scattered snow showers along that as well. and you'll see how the model is painting the higher snow totals from plymouth up to say cape ann coating to two inches area wide. watch the higher terrain off to the west and possible parts of the shore line down to the cape higher amounts possible as we get some of those bands set up.

most of us off work, but those of us who have to get started watch out 20s area wide. freezing conditions with hazardous roads where those snow start to pile up. winds will kick in after sunrise. by 3:00 in the afternoon, 20, 25 miles an hour sustained winds. so wind chills begin to be a problem hour by hour throughout our monday. single digit feels like numbers by the end of the business on monday. on tuesday morning, it just gets worse. we'll have negative wind chills. subzero readings. so lots of layers. that's what we'll need on tuesday morning. really, wednesday stays fairly breezy as well. so a period of bitter cold in here on monday night. especially tuesday. so i'll have that 50% snow coverage later this evening into early monday. then it blows out of here, just left with the cold and the wind. by the end of the week, we're already tracking our next storm system. still too early to tell when and how much.

potentially into sunday our next weather maker. >> heather: it is officially january. jason i know you're a dog lover. this next story is about man's best friend but in this case, should probably say woman's best friend because this bride got a little bit of help on the day she needed it most. her wedding day. the help came from bella, her service dog, the owner, valerie suffers from migraine disorders and panic disorder. this photo and some more, showing the special bond between the pair have gyneviral. you can see bella helping to walk valerie down the aisle and keeping her calm and stress free on her big day. the photographer who took the photo, says the bigger story here is that the photos are giving valley a platform to talk about the value for service dogs for invisible diseases. val says she wouldn't be able to live her life to the fullest without bella.

>> michael: boston sports fans celebrating a bunch of wins this morning. last night the celtics taking on the wizards, look at isaiah thomas, a couple of 32 points there. the game is tied with under 14 seconds on the clock. in the end, celtics beat the wizards 119-117. over on the ice, the bruins make it a pro sports sweep for boston as they hosted the maple leafs. patrice bergeron breaking that first tie of the game then another tie under a minute remaining. brad marchand to the rescue. bruins over the leafs 3-2. >> heather: love that sweep. great time to be a new england fan. the bruins also making a heartfelt donation to a local hockey player.
