victoria warren joins us on the phone live from worcester with the very latest. >> reporter: good morning, jadiann. police confirming for us there's a fatality out here in worcestur and what we've been able to piece together is just before midnight last night worcester officials responded to a call for a car fire on swan avenue, off a dirt road in this section of worcester. and that's when, as they were fighting the fire, they car. worcester police got called to the scene. they put the fire out but clearly there's a police investigation as well as a fire investigation that's taken over. what they have done is blocked off an entire section of road up here, keeping us pretty far back but down further on the road where the road turns into a dirt road, that's where this car was located. it's in the woods behind washington heights. so they'll be out here all morning long working to try and figure out what exactly

happened, what led to the fire, where this body came from. so very active scene, very active investigation at this point. we're hoping to get an update from police this morning but what we have learned so far is just before midnight, a car fire and then they discovered a body inside of the car. we're live in worcester, victoria warren, "7 news today in new england." >> christa: thank you. developing this morning, the faa expected on the scene of a deadly plane crash near queens, new york and nypd says they've recovered one body. debris from the care aircraft was registered in new hampshire. john cuoco is at the airport in portsmouth. week. >> reporter: sources say the plane was registered in new hampshire and took off in portsmouth tuesday morning, landing in philadelphia the same day. the plane took off again from philadelphia last night.

for more parts of the plane in the harbor near queens. investigators recovered debris last night, including what appeared to be the fuselage and wing after receiving 911 calls about a small plane going down by breezy point. one body has been recovered. according to the new york daily news, investigators will be coming to portsmouth today to try and identify the victim. >> we just uncovered part of the wing and we're searching for more parts. >> reporter: the search was called off after midnight. it's unclear at this point when it will resume. we're live in portsmouth, new new new hampshire, john cuoco, "7 news today in new england." >> jadiann: an elderly woman

dead and another injured after hit by an suv in boston's south end. the driver is telling police solar glare made it impossible to see the women. the two were friends, in a crosswalk at tremont and west boylston streets. the grandmother of six lived a few blocks from the scene. people who live and work in the area say it's a dangerous spot. >> that's what the lady kept saying, i couldn't see anything. the sun was in my face. you just can't see, especially -- at this crosswalk here, a lot of cars always -- people trying to cross and -- it's always like that. like people trying to cross and cars going by. >> jadiann: the driver of the suv was also taken to the hospital to be checked out. so far no charges have been filed. happening later today, jury selection is set to resume in philip chism's murder trial. the selection process stopped three weeks ago so chism could

undergo a mental evaluation. the judge declared him competent to stand trial. jurors who have already been seated are expected to be questioned about whether they kept their pledge about avoiding coverage. philip chism was accused of killing colleen ritzer. >> christa: metro jet airlines is grounding all airbus 23 jets. the same one that crashed over egypt. meantime u.s. and british officials have reason to believe a bomb may have brought down the plane. let's go to nick emmons. intelligence. >> reporter: that's right. this bomb theory is not confirmed. officials say it's based on intercepted communications that can sometimes be misleading. this morning officials are investigating whether isis got to ground crew or baggage handlers at the airport.

>> after five days of trying to figure out what caused the plane to come apart, u.s. intelligence and british leaders say it was likely a bomb placed by isis. >> we concluded there's a significant possibility that crash was caused by an explosive device onboard the aircraft. >> if there was a bomb there will be explosive residue, fragments of a timer. a u.s. satellite detected a heat flash at the same time of the disaster that only could have come from pa bomb on the plane or a fuel tank exploding. >> we have a strong desire to get to the bottom of what exactly happened there. >> getting an explosive device on to an aircraft in this region is a game-changer for security. >> the faa is advising u.s. airlines to avoid flying into or over the sinai peninsula in egypt.

known for brutality but if they blew a plane out of the sky they have a deadlier reach. right now that's a strong suspicion, not a proven fact. >> i'm not going to talk about intelligence matters. there's been press reporting of isis claims. we've seen that. >> reporter: investigators are recorders. the head of the airport where the plane took off from has been fired. that's the latest live in the control room, nick emmons, "7 news today in new england." >> jadiann: the investigation into an illinois police officer who staged his suicide to look like murder is shifting to two members of his family. the lieutenant's widow and one of their sons are accused of misspending public funds. investigators say before killing himself, the officer was stealing money from a police program for young people, spending it on vacations and adult websites. investigators are coming under fire for their handling of the case.

door, even a little bit of fog but decent. it looks to turn colder by sunday. right now, the normal high in boston is 56. here we are 55 at this time. plymouth 57, worcester hills fourths and 50s. there's colder air route 2 corridor north, southern new hampshire because the air is dry. where you have warm temps, you have clouds and fog, reduced visibility. especially along the south coast. a dense fog advisory along the south coast, buzzards bay and narragansett bay. north of 44 you won't have fog. maybe patchy fog route 3 into the city and 24 and 28 and 95 but that's it. dew point temperatures have now risen to the 40s and 50s. if you're a jedi you may sense that humidity in the air. if you're not a jedi and you have hair, you may notice a little bit of frizz in the hair.

sources say the plane was registered in new hampshire. investigators recovered one body and debris from the aircraft. the search for possible victims was called off last night due to weather. a grandmother of six is dead and another elderly woman seriously injured after they were hit by an suv in boston's south end. the two were friends, they were in a crosswalk near tremont and west brookline streets. the driver says the sun was in her face. she was taken to the hospital to be checked out and no charges have been filed. >> christa: bridgewater police are investigating after making a disturbing discovery. a woman's body tied up and burning. right now they're expected back at the scene today. they're searching for clues. also, police are asking for your help to solve this murder mystery. let's go to nicole oliverio with the story. >> reporter: police don't know

bridgewater or who she is but they're trying to find out how she ended up here. a woman's body bound and burned. police found the woman after someone called 911 about a suspicious car. >> we don't have evidence that the crime happened there other than the fact the burning happened there. as it pertains to when the individual was killed, we don't have the information. >> the woman's body was found 50 yards from the oak street crossing along the commuter line tracks. neighbors tell us around midnight they smelled something bad and heard a commotion in the woods. including this woman's daughter. >> she heard someone racing down the road. they were racing and seemed to be panicked. and huffing and puffing, out of breath, going real fast up the street. >> the district attorney's office don't know who she is. investigators spent the day searching the crime scene and nearby neighborhood hoping they'll figure it out. >> this is a very concerning

i will say that all of our investigative resources are being devoted to determining who the perpetrators of this crime are. >> police are asking anyone with information, anyone who may have heard something or anyone with home surveillance to call them if they can help. nicole oliverio, "7 news today in new england." >> jadiann: plans for the proposed casino in brockton will be revealed later today. mass gaming and entertainment is set to unveil details for the resort to gambling regulators. a planned casino in brockton could generate more than $2 billion in revenue in the first five years. the proposed casino would cost more than $670 million and may have to compete with a casino in taunton. a new report shows millions in taxpayer dollars have been used to honor military members at sporting events. senator john mccain and senator jeff flake announced the

department of defense used $6.8 million to spend on sports marketing contracts since 2012. they learned the weekly hometown hero tributes hosted by the patriots and jets were paid for by taxpayer money. the senators say these actions were inappropriate and frivolous. the documents show the patriots received the second highest amount among all the pro sports franchises, $700,000 trailing only the atlanta falcons. the bruins received $280,000. the celtics and red sox received 195,000 and 100,000. the pats and bruins told the globe their salutes began before the sponsorship was involved. the sox say their tributes are not part of the program. >> christa: burlington police are searching for two men who robbed an eyeglass store on monday. officers say the men stole several pairs of eyeglasses. surveillance footage shows the store owner and manager trying

the man punched the manager in the face. the store's owner says she can't believe this happened. >> we don't feel safe because this is supposed to -- this is a very safe area. i don't understand somebody in the daylight doing that. >> the manager can barely open her mouth and is recovering from a jaw injury at home. a close call for a driver in springfield when a wooden post goes right through her windshield. state police post this had picture on facebook. a 67-year-old woman from holyoke was driving on i-91 in springfield when the post came flying into her car. it fell off another vehicle then hit by a tractor-trailer which sent it flying through the air. that woman was not hurt and it went right through the driver's side window. >> christa: squarely.

discovery in a burned car. >> christa: firefighters found a body in this charred wreckage. there's go to victoria warren in worcester right now to let us know more. >> reporter: good morning. police are still on the scene here and where we're talking about is behind me. you can see where that police car is. this is swan avenue in worcester. if you continue up this street, it turns into almost like a dirt road and it's pretty -- nor more desolate and that's where this car was found just before midnight. worcester fire officials got the call for a car fire so they came to put out the fire and then called for worcester police to come to the scene as well. we've been told there is a death investigation going on and there are reports a body was found inside of that burning car. so police have been out here all night. the fire clearly out at this point but a lot of questions remain about the circumstances leading up to all of this.

>> christa: police in new york pulling plane parts out of the waters off queens after the small plane registered out of new hampshire crashed there. they have recovered the body of one man. >> jadiann: the search is expected to resume at daylight. john cuoco is live in portsmouth, new hampshire where the flight originated from. >> reporter: 7news sources say the plane was registered out of rye but it took off from here in portsmouth tuesday morning. it landed safely in philadelphia that same day. flight records show the plane took off again from pladelphia last night but crashed in the waters off queens. a body has been recovered but the search for other victims was called off last night because of weather. they're expected back later today. crews in new york are searching for more parts of the plane in the harbor near queens. investigators recovered debris last night including what appears to be a fuselage in a wing after receiving 911 calls of a small plane going down by breezy point.

took off from portsmouth yesterday morning landing in philadelphia safely that same day. flight records show the plane took off again from philadelphia last night but crashed in waters off queens. officials say one body was recovered but the search for other victims was called off last night because of weather. they're expected back later today. crews in new york are searching for more parts of the plane in the harbor near queens. investigators recovered debris last night, including what appears to be a fuselage and wing after receiving 911 calls of a small plane going down by breezy point. crews on the scene say the plane is a four to six seater but it's unclear if anyone else was onboard. the faa is also investigating. investigators will be here in portsmouth trying to identify this victim today. live in portsmouth, john cuoco, "7 news today in new england." >> christa: an elderly woman is dead, another seriously injured after they were hit by an suv in boston's south end.

the driver tells police solar the women. the two friends were in a boylston when they were hit. the driver was also taken to the hospital to be checked out. so far no charges have been filed. jury selection will start back up today in the murder trial of a local teen charged with killing his teacher. yesterday a judge declared philip chism is competent to stand trial. the trial stopped two weeks ago so chism could undergo a mental health evaluation and opening statements could begin next week. >> jadiann: this morning, airlines are taking precautions after u.s. intelligence suggests there was a bomb onboard the russian plane that exploded over egypt. nick emmons is here with more on this possible air attack. >> reporter: this morning metro jet airlines is grounding its fleet of airbus a321 jets, the same model involved. u.s. intelligence and british leaders say the crash was likely from a bomb placed by isis.
