car. this woman's daughter opened the door the hand out candy and saw the commotion. >> oh, mommy, the car ran on the kid that walked for trick-or-treat. >> reporter: it happened on marshall avenue. the boy was conscious and alert but had a gash on his head. >> i said, oh, i'm really scared, sad for them. >> reporter: investigators say the driver kept going, only to stop a blo to witnesses, then drive off again. she was stopped by police ten minutes later. the child was taken to the hospital. >> i asked her if her parents or her mom, i walked with them and to -- she say yes. >> reporter: the four-year-old boy is expected to be okay. police say the driver was taken in for questioning last night. no charges at this point. live in lowell this morning, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england."

let's get the breaking news from overnight where police are investigating a deadly trailer crash. it happened in mississippi. three people, including two children, were killed. several others were hurt when this vehicle hit a trailer as this flatbed pulled a group of people for halloween hay ride. it happened last night. police say some of the victims have life-threatening injuries. >> sarah: also this morning, police are investigating a school scare in dorchester after a 12-year-old boy allegedly brings a gun to class. police taking the boy into custody on officials at the trotter school say they found a gun and another weapon in his bag. investigators say the gun was not loaded. >> christa: now to a teen tragedy. a friday night house party turning deadly in lowell. police say 15-year-old, ethan costello, died from brain injuries after being attacked. let's head out the 7's john cuoco who is outside the teenager's school in tewksbury. john? >> john: well, christa, between each side there are some

braintree to boston just 12 minutes into town on the pike from 128. that's your easiest drive. 93 southbound, 128 to the zakim bridge, 26 minutes. we're seeing some delays on the commuter rail on the providence-stoughton line. back to you, guys. >> christa: breaking news out of middleton. crews are on the scene of this house fire on forest street. you see all the smoke and flames in this home right now. firefighters are still there on the scene. but the good news is that no one was injured and we'll continue to update you on t now for the day's other top stories. a four-year-old boy is recovering after getting hit by a car in lowell. police say this happened while he was out trick-or-treating last night on marshall avenue. the boy has a bad gash on his head, but he's expected to be okay we're told. investigators caught up to the driver about ten minutes after that accident, and they say she initially stopped at the scene but then took off. also this morning, a teenager is facing some serious charges after a 15-year-old boy died at a house party in lowell.

joseph zagarella slammed ethan costello to the ground friday night and killed him. zagarella's attorney alleges that other people at the party killed costello when they beat him. >> sarah: investigators are trying to determine what triggered this chain-reaction crash involving a firetruck. the driver and four firefighters all rushed to the hospital with injuries. 7's jonathan hall here now with more at the story. >> jonathan: this crash happened at comm ave and dartmouth yesterday. it started when intersection while the truck was trying to get through. >> i just heard a bang. >> jonathan: the sound of the bang echoed through the crash. lights and sirens on, sped west on comm ave on the way to a call. >> i saw the fire engine coming down comm ave. >> jonathan: as that fire engine crossed dartmouth, it crashed into an s.u.v. the impact sent the firetruck cascading down the sidewalk, crushing two s.u.v.s and eight other parked cars.

battles cancer in prison. dimasi was sentenced to eight years for corruption. he has served five years. >> christa: researchers say drivers for ride-sharing services here in boston discriminate based on both a passenger's race and gender. the study was published by the national bureau of economic research, and it says that uber drivers are more likely to cancel a ride if the passenger has an african american-sounding name. it also suggests that ride-sharing drivers in boston ke and more expensive rides. so in a statement, here's what uber said. we believe uber is helping reduce transportation inequities across the board, but studies like this one are helpful in thinking about how we can do even more. lyft also releasing a statement which reads in part, "we're extremely proud of the positive impact lyft has had on communities of color, because of lyft people living in underserved areas are now able to access convenient, affordable

that the study found no evidence of discrimination by lyft drivers in boston. the study says that may be because of the way drivers accept customers. uber drivers see the name of their customers after accepting. lyft drivers can see the name of the customer before accepting. >> sarah: nine men face a judge today after one of them hit a police officer. officers were chasing them for ri the officer was seriously injured but is expected to be okay. crowds in canton gathered to protest electric shock therapy. sky7 h.d. was over the scene yesterday at the judge rotenberg center. it's the only facility in the country still using electric shock devices. back in february, the f.d.a. proposed banning electrical stimulation, but still has not finalized that proposal. >> christa: and a pregnant manatee found off the chest of cape cod is now homeward bound.

scary scene, too. a bunch of other children out trick-or-treating along marshall avenue when the accident happened. this little four-year-old boy was walking along the street when he was hit by a car. police say he was conscious and alert but he did have a serious gash on his head. the boy was rushed for tufts medical center. witnesses told police the woman kept going only the get out about a block away and then get back in the car and continue on again. people here along marshall ave handing commotion. >> she come back and she tell me, oh, mommy, the car ran on the kid that walked for trick-or-treat. and i say, oh, i'm really scared, sad for them. >> reporter: so very upsetting for people here along the street. police stopped the driver around ten minutes later on broadway.

as for the young boy, he's expected to be okay. live in lowell this morning, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> christa: right now police are investigating a school scare in dorchester after a 12-year-old boy allegedly brought a gun to class. police took the boy into custody monday after officials at the trotter school say they found a gun and another weapon inside of his bag. investigators say the gun was not loaded at the time. >> sarah: a teacher in portsmouth, new hampshire, reportedly removed from the classroom. according to the portsmouth the high school teacher dressed up as donald trump and dancing to a song with explicit lyrics about the presidential candidate. the superintendent says the school faculty should not support or discredit political candidates. >> christa: and police releasing surveillance video of an alleged suspect in a train attack in dorchester. investigators say the man in that halloween mask ran off after dragging a trolley operator out of a train and punching him repeatedly. this happened outside of cedar

injuries. >> sarah: grief councilors are available for teens in tewksbury after the death of a 15-year-old beating at a house party friday night. john cuoco live in tewksbury with more this morning. john? >> john: well, sarah, between each side there is some discrepancy as to what really happened that night when one teen ended up in cuffs, the other eventually drying. 15-year-old tewksbury high schooler ethan costello was at a halloween party when he w head and died from brain injuries two days later. police say there was party behind a house in lowell where several teenagers, including ethan, were drinking. joseph zagarella went on the attack. but zagarella's defense attorney says the victim fell, he wasn't thrown, and who did what is still unclear. >> he was smart. he was caring, respectful. any mom would be proud to have him as a son, and i was proud my daughter had him as a friend. i cry. it's been days.
