across the board. right now the further south you go, mid-50s close to boston, upper 40s to the north. wind is on shore in boston. it's also out of the east in worcester. so that's important to the forecast today. if you don't have the south or southwesterly wind, you're not going the warm up nearly as much as what you saw. we've even tracked a few showers, stretching from cape ann back toward salem and peabody. and this goes along 128 to 95, close to reading, as well. this here, back across the worcester county acouple of these brief moving showers. this stretches all the way toward the mass pike. toward hopkinton. then you go to the south and franklin and a couple quick-moving showers working on in. there's not a lot of rain to be had this morning. a couple quick-moving showers especially across northern mass and southern new hampshire. i think by mid-day, though, it's an 11:00 in the morning, noontime, 1:00, as this batch works on in, that will increase

across northern mass and southern new hampshire, as well. once in a while, again, in boston, down through the south shore, we catch a passing shower or two. the story, though, as we get into tomorrow, will be the cooler their works on in for all of us and the gusty breeze. and we'll keep it on the cooler side over the weekend, which means temperatures a couple degrees either side of 50 for high temperatures. but it's mainly dry forecast friday, saturday and into sunday. we're not expecting a ton of rain out of this today, although a few towns pic u best chance to see that across northern mass up into southern new hampshire with lighter amounts of just more scattered shower activity working in close to the mass pike and points south. so currently we have this mild air that's still trying to nose on in briefly today, especially south of boston. but all of us getting into a cooler pattern, again friday, saturday and into sunday. so we'll note those temperatures dropping off there a bit. it's a wide range of

facing charges today, taken to the hospital, as well, after crashing his car during a police chase. this was in cohasset. police say the 21-year-old was trying to get away from police. that's when he lost control of his car an he suffered minor injuries. >> sarah: we're hearing the call from help from a 70-year-old woman who was allegedly bound with duct tape while three men robbed her home in sterling. >> how long ago were they in the house? >> about three mens ago they have to be in sterling in my 2004 deville. they're probably heading for the expressway. i don't know. but they haven't been gone long. >> sarah: the woman making that call after setting herself free. police say those three suspects are still on the run. >> christa: happening today, we're set to learn more about a lawsuit that was filed by a northeastern university student who says the school mishandled

now, the student will answer questions later this morning and according to an independent student newspaper, court documents say she claimed administrators did not properly handle the 2013 case when they determined another student was not responsible for an alleged rape. >> sarah: new details about the death of a 62-year-old woman in lawrence. the essex county district attorney has ruled out foul play. investigators initially said the woman's death was considered to be suspicious after her body was discovered outside a building on tuesda charges after a deadly crash that happened in salem. todd gurley was arraigned by way of video wednesday. police say the 45-year-old was driving under the influence of drugs and had a revoked license at the time of the crash. now, the crash you may remember happened on route 111. police say he pulled out on to the street, hit a car, pushed that car into oncoming traffic. right new he's charged with negligent homicide. aggravated d.u.i. and possession of heroin. >> sarah: new this morning,

north across northern mass and southern new hampshire, it's going to be tough to get them back out of the south as a wave of low pressure rides along. we've tracked a couple showers. one entering boston as we speak. you can see if we head down to jamaica way, down to the vfw, a couple showers passing on by. that extends back to 95 here. back into weston. then you go out the mass pike from natick to framingham, drying out after a couple showers just passed on in. we do have some dry times some it's not an all-day rain e. 11:00 a.m., noon, 1:00 p.m., i do expect this rain to be more consistent across portions of central and southern new england. especially central new england. new hampshire, vermont, that's when you pick up the steady washout-type rain. northern mass around mid-day. showers more consistent. there will be a few showers that you're dealing with some consistent rain. then you get close to the mass pike points south and any rain we get this afternoon will be showers in and out. so keep the umbrella handy.

an s.u.v. bursts into flames after the driver swerves to avoid hitting a deer and ends up smashing into a tree. >> this gentleman, you know, he was already second-guessing himself. he made a spur of the moment decision, and he's alive. >> nicole: it happened on bad -- baldwin street in leicester yesterday afternoon. police say a deer ran into the road, causing the driver the lose control and hit the tree. the car immediately burst enter flames. but the man behind the wheel managed to escape. a witness driving by called 911. >> very calm. very composed. told us immediately the car was on fire and that the gentleman had already gotten out. >> nicole: now only the shell of the s.u.v. chief said a truck can be replaced. amazingly, that driver walked away with just some bruising and a broken bone. live in leicester, nicole oliverio, 7news "today in new england." >> christa: the retrial of convicted killer gary lee sampson continues today. his attorneys argue that sampson suffered from a traumatic brain injury at the age of four plus a dozen other head injuries in his life saying that could have prayed a part in the murders. in court wednesday the jury heard the gruesome details of the killings.

sampson in which he states he tried to turn himself in and he that hated the things he had done. he confessed to killing three men in 1991, jonathan rizzo, philip mccloskey both of massachusetts and 58-year-old robert whitney of new hampshire. his death sentence was thrown out because of jury misconduct. the new trial wounds. >> we're going through this again and i still don'ting ups why. >> it's tough for every single one of us. >> christa: sampson is now 57 years old. he suffers from several health problems, including hepatitis c, liver disease and diabetes. his defense attorneys are hoping the jury will appeal his original death sentence instead sending him to prison for life. >> kris: a repeat arrest for a new hampshire representative. police arrested kyle tasker for allegedly driving drunk.
