it's all comes down to this election day. many casting their vote for the next president of the united states. some votes have been counted. the results of a midnight tally from the first vote in the nation today. stepped up security is in place the extra precautions being go smoothly at polling places nationwide. good tuesday morning. thanks for joining us. it's 9:00 a.m. i'm sarah french. i'm kris anderson. it's election day. big day for our country. the polls are open in the baystate. we have plenty of election coverage for you ahead. first a check of your election day forecast. no excuse to get out there and not vote.

it's quiet throughout the continental u.s. everyone is looking pretty decent weather to get outside and vote today. mostly sunny skies. we warmed up about ten degrees since this morning. some more than that. 53 degrees in fitchburg. orange chilly at 35. here in boston we're in the upper 40s. temperatures are going to warm up actually good deal from here. winds largely calm. much less breezy than the last couple of day. very comfortable day for your fo weather. temperature around the mid 50s in boston by noon with calm winds as we head into the afternoon we'll start to feel a little bit of a sea breeze. that's going to keep our highs closer to around 60 degrees. definitely some of us looking at temperatures up to around 63 degrees today. very pleasant weather. good morning, everyone. let's head outside. here's a look at 93 as you make your way through summerville. let's go to map we're watching a

way. other than that not seeing any major problems on the roads. throw braintree to boston that drive northbound on the expressway 36 minutes this morning. if you drive to go vote you have time to think about it. stop and go back to weymouth. route 24 not bad. the pike stop and go from framingham into town. 2 and 3 no issues. let's take a look at the drive times. 26 minutes on the expressway braintree to boston. about half an hour the pike from 128. 93 southbound 128 to zakim bridge. 19 minutes we have delays on the green line and the framingham worcester line. back to you guys. >> donald trump looking to close the deal. >> hillary is the face of

choice. >> polls are opening up across the country. one candidate already casting her vote. here's hillary clinton voting in update new york after 8:00 this morning. her running mate tim kaine also voted in virginia earlier today. voters are are heading out this morning as voting gets under way. this is look in virginia earlier where voter lined up really early this morning. this line stretching the length of that entire building. but the first vote of the and counted in new hampshire. several of the small towns in the againite state going to the poll in midnight. early lead for donald trump. all together the votes of the three hamlets is trump, 32, clinton 25 and gary johnson picking up four. millions of americans are yet to voice their choice. months of polling and campaigning come down tood. now the fate of who our next president is in your hands. we have team 7 coverage of all the big races this morning.

and a last-minute push for votes for hillary clinton. >> boston mayor marty walsh heading north of the massachusetts stateline into n new hampshire on election day. i ask them to consider hillary and maggie. campaigning for hillary clinton and maggie hasset running for stat. polls show the races state but walsh said she's confident clinton can win the granite i think it's a close race. i think at the end of the day hillary will pull it out. phone banks and door to door canvas. walsh expects to knock on doors to get out the vote. >> the northeast is important part of the country. we think o new england as region. having a senator from here and with the president that can be good to region is important.

hassit. a recent poll found things let locked >> this morning security will be tight at polls all across the country. the justice department is even stepping up operation senting 500 staffer. nicole oliverio live in quincy with more on this. nicole? >> really they want to make sure when voter go to the polls there's no fraud of intimidation. all voters right are the department of justice is sending poll monitors here to quincy. it's the only town in massachusetts where those pollers will be. we spoke with quincy city clerk. they never had issue in town. they believe their town was chosen at random. the u.s. department of justice is doing this as a national effort to make sure that voters rights are protected. they announced yesterday that more than 500 people are going to 67 different polls places to monitor during the general election.

launchers will gather information on whether voters are be insubjected to different voting qualifications. we spoke with several voters today who say they didn't see any problems. >> i think the asian community much more higher and the shying away. i think maybe the language barrier. >> because of the large population of chinese here that's the ballot also in chinese. so in a way that's -- communicate to them they do have their right to have their vs understand what they are doing. >> we spoke with city clerk she said in quincy they have more than 59,000 registered voters. so far today no problems. she said it's been busy. she also said they are welcoming those poll monitors from the department of justice. she said they will only be here observing. there will be no interaction with voters. they may notten realize that they are there. that's the latest live in quincy. nicole oliverio. 7newsod today. here in massachusetts

up for debate. nancy chen joining us with details on those. >> good morning to you. hot topic issues up for debate in the baystate including schools and gambling. so let's take a look at ballot question number one. a yes vote would allow the commission to issue an additional slots parlor license. they are aiming to open up with at the suffolk downs racetrack. question two is highly controversial. it proposes up to 12 new chart inrolement by up to 1% every year. those schools would have to undergo annual performance review. if it passes the new law will go into effect at the beginning of next year. we'll have look at other two ballot questions in the next half hour. nancy chin. 7news "today in new england." massachusetts governor charlie baker hitting the polls to voice his choice in election day. he didn't vote for anyone for

of the week brief cooldown. right now we're warming up. 49 in boston. jaffrey, 41. still struggling to warm up here. 53 in fitchburg. we look at mostly sunny skies throughout the day. that's what we see now. nothing but sunshine. the most we will see cloud coverwise. temperature are going to sore unseasonably warm temperatures and in addition to that what's making things feel more they are really calm today. the last couple of day we've had blustery condition. today pretty mellow out there. we have a sea breeze that will set up for us as we head into the afternoon. that's going to help moderate temperature in boston. highs around 60. 59 degrees as you head into the launch hour temperatures in the mid 50s. temperature further inland actually up to around 63 degrees. again a look what we're

tomorrow a different scenario. late tonight around 1:00. midnight tonight cloud cover thicken from the west. and mostly cloudy skies tomorrow as a front starts to pull through new england. this is going to bring the chance for showersen by 7:00 in the morning. the front continues to track eastward. we look at the chance for rain in boston. starting to dry out in western mass. as we head into the late afternoon this really does shift further bulk of that wet weather. later tomorrow night we dry out with dry skies for thursday and dry skies for friday as well. quick look at rainfall totals. they will not be terribly impressive. i think there's a better chance for around quarter inch of rain as you head into the cape. here's throughout boston i think most of us seeing around tenth of an inch if not under that. highs today pretty comfortable in the upper 50s for some. even 63 degrees for some of us. really wonderful weather to get

>> also this morning crowd chaos in cambridge. police using pepper spray outside wrapper and celtics player were appearing. nancy chin in the control room with details on this story. nancy? >> six teen are facing charge after special appearance at cambridge side galleria got completely out of hand. >> reporter: police say a crowd of more than 1,000 got out of hand. this video taken by a viewer over filled the cambridge galleria mall. you see people rushing and kicking chair and running. >> a huge crowd for appearance at champs store by jalen brown and wrapper named designer. people started rushing anyway. they started pepper spraying -- little kids. i'm not kidding.

spray. leaving many people shaken up. >> they shutdown the street. absolutely chaos. jalen brown said he will reschedule the event. the teens have been charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. in the control room, nancy chin. 7news "today in new england." a georgetown police officer had to be rushed to hospital after being injured in the crash in raleigh. police say the officer was rear ended on the highway. happened monday night on the northbound of 195 near exit 54. we're told his injuries are life threatening. officials say the officer was pulled over on the side of the highway while a detailing a construction site. that's when he was apparently hit. the driver of the car taken to the hospital right now investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved in this crash. >> coming up next sneaker showdown. we have to tell you about. >> bri eggers lacing them up. >> bri eggers lacing them up. we'll find out who i'm maggie hassan, and new hampshire has a very clear choice:

that. election day forecast pleasant as we head into launch hour. temperature mid 50s. we're topping off in upper 50s low 60s here in boston. sea breeze kicking in by the afternoon. that will help moderate temperature a little bit here across the coast. by tomorrow we're looking at very different weather. wednesday as we head into the early morning hour cloud cover start to thicken up ahead of frontal system into new england. and by early tomorrow morning we look at chance for showers in massachusetts. especially as you head further westward. this does throughout the day. i count on wet weather here in boston and actually throughout much of the state. we're going to look at chance for showers throughout the day. this starts to wrap up quickly by the early evening hours you can see the showers staying to the southeast. i think that will be the trend. the cape looking at better chance of grabbing around quarter of an inch. i think most look tenth of an in. some will see just a couple hundreds around 500 possible. maxing out about quarter of an

their teammate emma ryan. died suddenly from natural causes in her sleep just one week ago. >> we were all more than team. we were family. seeing all the people from like the town come together was really nice >> monday night the they played their rivals in play off game. emma sister katelyn helped lead them here. and while she didn't want to talk about her sister she did want to talk about the team. >> we're league champions for girls soccer. we got eliminated the first round. but it was great season. they had the support of the entire crowd which didn't go unnoticed. >> seeing the community come out today unbelievable. and meanted so much to all of us. as the team continues to grieve emma's memory and the number she wore number 20 lives on as the community near and far come together. >> she's definitely a good
