cabinet nominations. several new developments surrounding the trump team out this morning. >> this is 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: good tuesday morning, everybody. thanks for waking up with us. i'm sarah french. >> christa: i'm christa delcamp. don't forget, grab that umbrella before you head out the door. it's in the raining now but maybe a little bit later on today. here's wren clair with your forecast. >> wren: parts of the viewing area are dry. we have fast-moving system that will bring us a good bit of rain throughout the day. we are also concerned about these high tides today. high tide will be 11:07 a.m. we have a coastal flood advisory from 1:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with on-shore winds and that super moon pulling through the last couple nights. we're looking up to around a foot. so minor flooding is definitely a possibility today. an we could see some pockets of more moderate flooding. right now we're tracking those showers, moving further northward, some of these pocket os. rain tracking more

you can see we're already waking up to that wet weather. and count on a wet tuesday forecast. >> sarah: time now for fast track traffic with danielle gersh. >> danielle: you're in good shape if you're ready to head out the door this morning. not seeing any issues on the roads. let's go to the maps. it's only ten minutes from braintree to boston northbound there. south of town, route 3, 24 and 95 all looking good. the pike fine all the way back the framingham. wide open there. route 2 and 3 not s on 93 a couple work crews out there heading into the city. problem-free on route 1 this morning. let's take a look at those drive times if you're getting ready to head out the door. ten minutes braintree to boston northbound on the expressway. 12 minutes into town on the pike from 128. 93 southbound, 128 to the zakim bridge, just 11 minutes this morning. both the "t" and commuter rail starting the morning on schedule. back to you, guys. >> christa: all right, danielle. let's check out breaking news from overnight at 5:01. this vehicle hit by taxi.

we're told the two vehicles collided on storrow drive but came to a stop at the intersection of comm ave and berkeley street. that's when we're told the taxi took off. the crash caused some minor damage, as you see, to the s.u.v. no one was injured. >> sarah: big news for the patriots. reports coming in late last night that now say rob gronkowski only suffered a chest injury, not a punctured lung after taking a brutal hit against the seahawks. this morning his teammates are reacting to the news. >> christa: and fans are wondering if the tight be sidelined for sunday's game in san francisco. for the latest, live to gillette and 7's john cuoco. >> john: christa, gronk missed the first two games of the season with hamstring injury. now he could miss more time with another injury. >> that was a big hit for sure, probably one of the hardest i got hit in my career. >> that's incomplete and gronkowski gets popped. boy, he took a shot. >> john: that's the shot that knocked rob gronkowski out of action for five plays sunday

answer. >> jennifer: cameron was checked out at leahy clinic in burlington. boston police confirm his story and say they are investigating. live in boston, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> christa: jen, thank you. now to a troubling trend emerging since the election. the massachusetts attorney general taking action to fight discrimination and keep people safe from hate crimes. let's go to 7's victoria warren live outside the statehouse with more. christa, the a.g. establishing a atline for people to call in and report these incidents. this way you can keep track of when and where this is happening across the state and get law enforcement involved where appropriate. fighting back against hate. the state's attorney general says these anonymous letters filled with racial slurs and violent threats that were left in a newton home are just one of many reports her office is receiving since election day. >> we've established a hot line

here in massachusetts and nationally. >> victoria: in maryland, someone ripped holes in a poster advertising's a church's smirk language services and wrote "trump" on the back. a swastika was spray painted on a church. a religious statue was also desecrated with a homophobic slur. church leaders left praying for the person behind it. >> our hate or vengeance or revenge. it's supposed to be love. >> victoria: in massachusetts, the attorney general says there is no tolerance for hate crimes. lawyers and staff will answer calls to the hot line to track reports and take action where needed. >> the attorney general's office will be here to work with our partners in law enforcement, to enforce the law and to defend people's rights. >> victoria: in addition to making these reports through the

7news "today in new england." >> christa: boston police are investigating a shooting that happened in dorchester where a person was shot in the leg. it happened outside a convenience store. this was late yesterday afternoon. no word yet, though, on the victim's condition at this point. >> sarah: four construction workers are recovering this morning after a wall collapsed in kingston. sky7 h.d. over the scene on christmas tree lane monday afternoon. officials say construction crews were putting up a second-floor wall when it fell over. injured while the other two suffered minor injuries. all four victims are expected to be okay. neighbors describe the scene as scary. >> we saw a cop car coming flying down with lights on, and then followed probably like five minutes later by a couple ambulances. >> sarah: right now osha is continuing to investigate what caused the collapse. >> christa: and happening today, another medical marijuana

. >> sarah: welcome back. 5:15 on this tuesday morning. umbrella today. >> christa: that happens from time to time. wren, i guess we need the rain. >> wren: absolutely. we're looking at 10-plus inches of deficit. we absolutely need the rain today. it will be more than just trace amount, as well, so it will be a needed rainfall for us. it is going to be cooler. in addition the a rain jacket, you'll want to add on an extra layer. we're not talking about temperatures in the mid and upper 60s today. we'll be back to seasonable highs in the low 50s. one concern is minor coastal

we make our way through the rest of your work week. temperatures are not as varied as what we woke up to yesterday morning. not as cool in norwood. 42 there. 49 in boston. low 50s across the cape and 43 degrees in jaffrey, as well as fitchburg. pretty mild out there. we're already tracking some showers headed further northward. some of these taking more of a northeasterly track. a closer look at who is seeing those showers. worcester currently seeing a little blip move through. you can see franklin also having some light rain move through pace here some this morning we're talking about sprinkles, very light rain. by lunchtime, though, some more moderate to heavy rain at times. these high tides are going to be a concern for us today. i mentioned that earlier. we are talking about king tides, high astronomical tides in relation to the super moon. you add in this low pressure system, some on-shore winds and we're looking on potentially half a foot to around a foot of storm surge today, especially again at 11:07 when we do have high tide. not as much of a concern into

flow. minor coastal flooding is definitely a concern today. pockets of moderate coastal flooding also possible. we'll be monitoring that throughout the day. there is a coastal flood advisory in effect from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. short-knit period of time. an hour before that high tide and a couple hours afterward. that's in effect again until 2:00 p.m. take a look at future cast. this morning future cast is saying some showers by around 6:00, 7:00. i think future cast has been lagging a little bit. so by morning commute, seeing those showers. but temperatures stay comfortable today in the mid to low 50s. we are not looking at a cool start. throughout the day we'll continue to see some showers, pockets of heavy rainfall definitely possible, even through your evening commute. we do still see some showers past dinnertime. rainfall totals for most of us will range between half an inch to around an inch of rain. showers are likely, isolated storms possible. the risk for severe weather remains low. tyings hud will be in the low 50s for most of us.

patchy fog. your 7 on 7 forecast showing temperatures rebound again very nicely by tomorrow back into the upper 50s with decreasing cloud cover throughout the day. >> christa: all right, wren. thank you. new this morning wanda sykes responding to a controversial incident that happened over the weekend in boston. the comedian was in the middle of her set at the comics come home fund-raiser, and that's when the crowd started booing during an anti-trump rant. sykes fought back, cursing at the crowd and then continuing on with her jokes. overnigh statement reading in part, "i then moved on to other material, got some laughs and said good night. i left the stage with my head held high and my middle finger even higher." >> sarah: environmental officials are investigating thousands of dead fish that have appeared in a canal in new york. crews working to remove all the fish on monday. officials say the fish became trapped when the canal was closed earlier in the day, causing them to run out of oxygen. people in the area say they have

>> it was like something you see out of the amazon with piranhas, that's just what it looked like. >> they chase them in here. unfortunately locks are closed. they can't get out. the sheer number of fish in here sucks the oxygen out of the water and they suffocate. >> christa: fishermen plan to sell some of the dead fish as bait to lobstermen in maine. >> sarah: a woman injured on her way home when she gets hit with some dangerous debris. this happened in florida. the woman says a crowbar the crowbar apparently hit her in the head and then covered her in shattered glass, but amazingly, if you can believe it, her injuries were only minor. >> i heard a bang. something hit my head and fell down my arm. i panicked, you know, i hit the flashers, went off to the side of the road. >> christa: police say the crowbar may have been sitting there on the road and flipped into the air when it was hit by another car and then hit her

disappeared. >> and new balance fighting back after a white supremacist web site recommends their shoes. >> this is 7news "today in new england." >> christa: good morning, everybody. it's tuesday, officially mid way through the month of november on the 15th. i'm christa delcamp. >> sarah: i'm sarah french. let's get a check of the forecast now with wren clair. wren? >> we've seen quiet weather over the last couple days. today is a different story. we're already looking at a coastal flood advisory, wrapping up at 2:00.m we're looking at astronomically high tides. king tides today in relation to the super moon and some on-shore winds as we do have a stormy day, a wet day ahead. isolated storms are possible for us. the risk for severe weather remaining low. right now we're already tracking some showers pushing into mass here. most of that further to our south. franklin, worcester having seen some showers. the cape having seen pockets of rain. this is headed further northward.

moderate to heavy rain at times as with we head enter the afternoon. showers continuing into tonight with a cooler day ahead. back to you, guys. >> sarah: okay. >> christa: still early. how is the traffic, danielle? >> danielle: it is early, but we have a couple incidents we're watching out there, christa. 93, not seeing any issues here. this is a look at somerville. let's go to the maps. almost on 93 on the ramp from 495 southbound to route 93 and andover we're watching an accident there. other than that, no major issues on route 93 or route south of town, braintree to boston, northbound on the expressway, just ten minutes. route 3, 24 and 95 all looking good, but heading out to 495, we have an accident. we have another one eastbound on the pike at route 9. this accident in framingham involving a truck. and then we have an overturned vehicle on 495 northbound at west main street. other than that, looking pretty quiet out there. let's take a look at those drive times if you're getting ready to

from 128. 93 southbound, 128 to the zakim bridge, 11 minutes this morning. the "t" and commuter rail running on schedule. back to you, guys. >> christa: checking out your top stories now on this tuesday, the patriots hoping that tight end rob gronkowski will not miss much time after taking a big hit in sunday's loss to seattle. there was a report initially that rob gronkowski suffered a punctured lung and could miss at least one game, but late last night espn's adam schefter reported that the tight end suffered a chest injury that is serious." the pats visit the 49ers coming up this sunday. also police searching for a group of men who allegedly attacked a donald trump supporter outside a bar in boston. investigators say the suspects punched the victim after they heard that he voted for trump in the recent presidential election. the victim here suffered a broken eye socket and a broken nose. osha investigating after four people were injured in a serious construction accident in kingston. officils say that construction

second-floor wall and it fell over. two people were seriously hurt while the other two suffered only minor injuries. ism right now part of a lawrence school ripped apart. this is the damage done by a fire. this happened in a laboratory there. hundreds of students forced to rush out of the classroom yesterday morning. they won't be able to go back to that school for at least a week. the windows of the science room are all boarded up. there will be no students in this classroom for some time and no classes at school in lawrence on tuesday. all this after a fire rips throw a classroom shortly after school started monday morning. >> we hear the fire alarm. we didn't know what happened. we thought it was a normal fire drill. so then the teacher came in and said, oh, fire, fire, and then we just left and i smelled smoke and it smelled bad. >> sarah: no one was in the classroom where the fire started, but there were hundreds of students in school at the time. once the alarm sounded, kids walked outside just like it was

>> we practice fire drills regularly throughout the year. the bruce is scheduled for a drill this friday. it's part and parcel of what we do. we want the keep our kids safe at all times. >> sarah: the fire department arrived within minutes, but the flames didn't spread to the rest of the school. >> significant damage to the classroom, heavy smoke and water damage throughout the school. >> sarah: the students were all relocated to a nearby middle school, and the bruce school has already canceled school for tuesday, while the cause is still und officials don't believe it's suspicious. >> the bottom line at the end of the day is all the kids and teachers are safe, and, you know, we'll figure out how to fix it and get back in class when we can. >> sarah: investigators believe the cause of the fire was electrical. damage is estimated to be a quarter of a million dollars. >> christa: meantime, family and friends gathering for a vigil in honor of a brockton teen who disappeared nearly 30 years ago. police say 16-year-old jennifer

that's when she vanished. people traced what they believe the last-known steps. >> i appreciate all my friends and family coming out tonight and walking for jen. i just can't give up hope and think that somebody will come forward and i'll find her. >> sarah: so police say there are still no known suspects. >> sarah: new this morning, boston mayor marty walsh calling for change after the deadly trench collapse in the south end two men were killed in that accident. the mayor is proposing new rules requiring companies to report if they are in good standing in osha before receiving work permits. the two men were working for atlantic drain service, which at the time was being fined for safety violations. a connecticut man accused of stabbing two women and stealing their car being held on there 100,000 bail this morning. police say he led officers on a chase through connecticut and all the way to worcester last week. one of the women suffer three

the other woman had to have surgery for a wound in her arm. they are both recovering. >> sarah: more news now at 5:36 on your tuesday. crews on the scene of an apartment fire on wells avenue in dorchester last night where officials say the fire started on the first floor. one person was taken to the hospital and is set to be recovering. six families total live in that home because of the smoke damage no one was allowed back inside, though. officials investigating quite a ride in new hampshire, a driver says he was smoking a cigarette dropped the cigarette on to his lap. he jumped out of the car. that's when it rolled down the ramp and floated away. the nashua fire department helped to bring the car back on land. >> sarah: we're getting a look at the new trailer for "patriots day," the mark wahlberg film about the marathon bombing.

with us. i'm kris anderson. >> christa: and i'm christa delcamp. it looks like we might get a little rain maybe in time for the evening commute here. >> kris: showers on the way. we have rain moving in, wren. >> randy: we have showers moving in. right now we're dry in boston, but we will see these showers intensify into more moderate-to-heavy rainfall at times. this is going the pack a punch as we head into the mid-morning hours and into the afternoon. lunch hour is looking wet, soggy. we're also looking at some coastal flooding concerns here. a coastal flood advisory 2:00 p.m. high tide is going to be at 11:08. that's when we're concerned because we're looking at astronomically high tides with king tides and some on-shore winds. that means around half a foot up to around a foot above our typical high tide. so definitely concern today. minor castal flooding expected. we could have pockets of more moderate coastal flooding, as well. other wieses temperatures turn cooler. grab the umbrella. throw on an extra layer. it will not be like yesterday, a sunny, warm day with

cloudy skies and highs in the low 50s today. back to you, guys. >> christa: let's check the commute as we head out the door. you want the hear what danielle gersh has to say. >> danielle: thanks, christa. here's a look at the pike as you head toward allston-brighton. no issues here. outside 495, we have quite a few issues on the the pike and 495. so we'll start with this accident. this is eastbound on the pike at route 9. this is a crash involving a truck. we have an overturned vehicle on 495 northbound. this is at west main street. sorry these icons are kind of small. i just have a lot to fit on this little part. another accident, route 9, this here is another disabled vehicle eastbound on the pike. so a bit messy over there. and then on 128 southbound at route 2a, we do have construction. so the left lane is blocked there. that's causing some back-up. this was our crash in wakefield, but actually it just cleared. 128 southbound at north avenue. but traffic still backed up to route 1 because of that. now, south of town, braintree to boston, northbound on the expressway, that drive a lot of

this morning. route 24, stop and go back to brockton. let's take a look at those drive times if you're getting ready to head out the door. 25 minutes to half an hour on the expressway. 13 minutes into town on the pike. but that's from 128, 93 southbound, 128 to the zakim bridge, 25 minutes. back to you, guys. >> kris: breaking story overnight. we're told the vehicle crashed at the intersection of comm ave and berkeley street. that's when we're toll the taxi took off. e the cruiser. two other cars were also damaged. no one was injured. the patriots are hoping that tight end rob gronkowski will not miss much time after taking this huge hit on sunday in that loss to seattle. the nfl network's ian rappaport initially reported that gronk suffered a punctured lung and could miss at least a game. but late last night espn's adam schefter reported the tight end suffered a chest injury that's believed to not be overly

team is starting to take shape now. the president-elect may have chosen his new secretary of state. the a.p. is reporting that rudy giuliani is the leading candidate for this position. giuliani has expressed interest in this job. >> christa: also this morning, a school in lawrence is closed after a fire broke out inside a classroom yesterday. and hundreds of students were forced out. it's not clear, though, when they'll be able to come back. let's check in with sarah for the latest on that. >> sarah: hundreds of students were forced to rush outside duri damage is so severe they won't be back in for quite some time. the windows of the science room are all boarded up. there will be no students in this classroom for some time and no classes at all at the bruce school in lawrence on tuesday. all this after a fire rips throw a classroom shortly after school started monday morning. >> the teacher came in. she said, oh, fire, fire. we just left and i smelled smoke and it smelled bad.

started, but there were hundreds of students in school at the time. once the alarm sounded, kids walked outside just like it was a drill. the fire department arrived within minutes, but the flames didn't spread to the rest of the school. >> significant damage to the classroom, heavy smoke and water damage throughout the school. >> sarah: the students were all relocated to a nearby middle school, and the bruce school has already canceled school for tuesday, while the cause is still under investigation, fire officials don't believe it's suspicious. >> the bottom line at the end of the day is all thes know, we'll figure out how to fix it and get back in class when we can. >> sarah: investigators believe the cause of the fire was electrical. damage is estimated to be a $250,000. in the newsroom, i'm sarah french, 7news "today in new england." >> christa: right now the mbta is investigating a commuter rail accident that was not reported. officials say earlier this month a train did not stop in time and struck a post at the end of a platform at south station. the train and a rail tie were damaged in that.

incident is being compared by officials with the mbta to that deadly train crash in new jersey. that train also hit something before crashing into the platform that. was back in september. one person was killed and more than 100 others were injured in that crash. >> kris: police are adding patrols to a new hampshire hiking trail after an alarming attack. there police say man came up behind a woman and assaulted her after she walked along the loop road trail in lebanon, new hampshire. that's when the attacker took off. >> christa: family and friends gathering for a vigil in honor of a brockton teenager who disappeared 27 years ago. jennifer lynn fay was walking to meet up with friends back in 1989 when she suddenly vanished. people at the vigil replaced what they believe to be her last-known steps. at this time police say that there are no suspects. >> kris: two suspects facing a judge after an alleged deadly hit-and-run in taunton.

killed while riding his bicycle last thursday night. police say 19-year-old sicily malanapo hit the victim and dragged alfano's bike. her boyfriend, brian o'day, was charged as an accessory. he screamed at his girlfriend to leave the scene and hid the victim's bicycle. the victim's family speaking out about this arrest. >> all you had to do was make a phone call, and maybe he'd be alive. my son will never get to meet his father. >> christa: >> kris: alfano has two children and is expecting a third. >> christa: new balance fighting back after a white supremacist web site declared the brand "the official shoes of white people. seaboard. we also have a coastal flood advisory in effect starting at 10:00 a.m. and wraps up at 2:00 p.m. high tide wraps up at that time. so we're looking at high tide being a half a foot the a foot greater than its normal value. definitely a concern today. we'll monitor that closely. high tide at 11:of. temperature-wise, mild this morning. we don't warm up too far from here. as we head into the morning hours, showers continue to push fur northward. by lunchtime it will be soggy. oranges and reds out there, pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall likely. most of us walk away today with around an inch of rain, half an inch to an inch, but i do think some of us could even manage more than, that especially since we see some of those thunderstorms today. so two inches of rain not out of the question by the late evening hours here. showers are likely today. isolated storm temperatures in the upper 40s.

as we head into tonight, showers continue to be likely. i do think it's going to be a bit warmer as you head east of the 495 loop. here in boston we'll see temperatures rise past dinnertime i do expect. your 7 on 7 forecast showing moderate conditions into tomorrow with a slight chance for a very early morning shower. >> christa: let's move over to fast track traffic with danielle gersh. what do we need to know. >> christa: . >> danielle: it's messy out there this morning. will rest look at the pike. this is allston-brighton. not too bad here, but out toward 495, if you're head entering town from worcester this morning, it's not pretty. we have an accident eastbound on route 9 involving a truck in framingham on the pike. we have an overturned vehicle on 495 northbound at west main street. there also on 495 northbound at route 9, another accident. and then another accident eastbound on the pike. that's at 495. so traffic eastbound on the pike is pretty much backed up all the way to worcester this morning because of that.

7news "today in new england." >> kris: the state is taking action after a series of threatening incidents happen across the nation. 7's victoria warren is live at the statehouse with more on some hate crime hotlines that are being formed. >> victoria: that's right. the state's attorney general is worried about an increase in possible hate crimes. that's why she's established this hot line for people to report what they suspect may be a hate crime. one of the incidents she was citing was these letters that were anonymously l doorstep in natick filled with racial slurs and violent threats. but she also cites some things that have nationwide. in maryland, someone wrote the words "trump nation, whites only" on a spanish language poster. and in indiana, hate-filled graffiti, including a swastika was spray painted on a church. this hot line has been established and will be manned by staff members and also attorneys and then they will
