is a safe place to live - that's the main thing." :01-:03 one man is dead and another in custody according to waukee police after a shooting early this morning... good evening, thanks for joining us. i'm jodi whitworth. the man accused of murdering his friend is now behind bars. 42 - year - old brendan mcguinness was arrested by des moines police shortly after 3 - 30 this afternoon. police say he shot 41 - year - old gino risola on a residential street in waukee mc - guinness is charged with first degree murder. channel 13's reid chandler is following this story... reid... this a pretty unusual case for waukee police jodi it's the first homicide in waukee since 19-77...but police are calling it an isolated incident and thank the des moines police department for helping locate the suspect so quickly. nearly forty years since waukee's last homicide left this quiet neighborhood along care-free lane anything but calm early saturday morning. 21:08:45 "completely, yeah. it's always a really quiet neighborhood. you know, you never see anything too

exciting around here." - georgia sysouchanh - waukee georgia "see-soo-john" lives down the street from the scene of the crime, where the sound of multiple gunshots brought police to find this man - gino risola - lying in the street... 1:09:05 "i know another neighbor heard the shots and you know, she thought, oh, it's probably a car that backfired or something. when you hear that, gunshots aren't the first thing that come to your mind." - georgia sysouchanh - waukee police say risola later died from his injuries in the hospital... the victim's wife identified the suspect as brendan mc-guinness. police say he was waiting for the couple to return home from a night out. 21:17:14 "you know, it's early on in the investigation, but we do know the two were associates." - chief john quinn - waukee police department just how the two were associates, and what may have caused mc-guinness to allegedly shoot risola is still a mystery. waukee officials say the suspect, who was seen fleeing the scene in a white ford pick-up, was captured by des moines police saturday afternoon. despite a potential threat to public safety, chief john quinn of the waukee police department says there's no need to doubt the suburb's safety.

suspect has been identified. they are not releasing that information to the public at this time. this is the city's 14 - th homicide of the year. 21:25:11:00-21:25:24:02 "like the other's we've had this year....14 is alot for this community....it's definetly not a reflection of the safety around here were finding a lot of personal relationships that for one moment have gotten horribly bad." police are still looking for a motive the johnston school district is mourning the loss of a high school student. sophomore, thomas -- tj -- sandstoe died this morning. in a statement released by the district -- it says the family is choosing not release the details of his death at this time. counselors will be available on sunday and during the school hours next week for students and community members. the district is encouraging parents to monitor their child's social media activity, conversations and behavior that may show they are struggling with the teen's death. visitation and funeral arrangements for sandstoe are pending. more information will

they were placed with their forever families as a part of adoption saturday. every year for the last 15 years... the event takes place at the polk county court house. the event help celebrate national adoption month. this year, 39 children were adopted into 28 families. organizers say today was meant to celebrate but also inform others about the need for adoptive and foster

593013 - to provide information about the need for foster and adoptive parents. we have a tremendous need for that in our state and so the other reason that we bring awareness to this day during national adoption month is so that we can spread to word to families who might be interested not to far from the court house.... hundreds at grey's lake today -- walked or ran to recognize those who are going through the adoption process or who have been adopted. alicia moisa participated in the gingerbread run. she was adopted when she was 2 years old. and says she applauds families who stick through the process and adopt children of all ages. 15:13:20:29-15:13:35:23 "i think a lot of people think about they want to adopt a little baby and i think that is amazing and wonderful to build their family that way but i also think what is amazing is people who are adopting 7 year olds...10 year olds...12 year old children and i think that is really a wonderful and beautiful thing." right now, there are close to 9 - hundred kids ready to be adopted from foster care.
