i'm joe gorchow coming up in just a moment a live report looking ahead to sunday's showdown. and tim miller has a check of our weekend forecast. your news at 6 starts now. good evening. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm meaghan norman. a man is in jail tonight charged with trying to kill an orangeburg county deputy. bond has been denied for 23-year-old gino brown. sled agents have charged brown with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. last month, shots were fired at an orangeburg county deputy in santee. it happened at the 'coasters club' on old number six highway. the deputy involved was not hurt and is still on paid administrative leave. one man is in jail -- another is recovering after columbia. richland county deputies responded to a shots fired call on brookmont lane -- just after noon today.

carolina's number one fan in the bay area... knows a thing or to about being a champion. golden state warriors guard stephen currry... originally from the carolinas... won the nba championship last season. he's a huge panthers fan! curry's cheered the panthers on since 1994. the reigning nba mvp had a homecoming or sorts at the panthers game earlier in the nfl season. he rallied the home crowd in charlotte by banging the keep pounding drum prior to kickoff against the texans. curry's relationship with the panthers on a personal began a few years ago during carolina's training camp. since then he's built strong friendships with players and "just so happy for what they've been able to accomplish. you want to see them succeed. not just rooting for the panthers it's a team that i've support for a little while. individual guys that you know how hard they work.

you want them to see the results from that and be champions." curry understands just how special it would be for him to win the nba title last year... and within 8 months watch his favorite football team claim charlotte's first every super bowl crown. live from san francisco joe gorchow wis news 10 sports. the richland library helped young panthers fans pre-game for super bowl 50. little fans sported their carolina blue at the library's "let's get ready to rumble" event this morning. kids were able to make their own panthers' banners to help cheer on the team in tomorrow's game. with the south carolina democratic primary just three weeks away -- a notable figure campaigning for bernie sanders today in columbia . erica garner -- the daughter of eric garner of new york city -- made several stops in the capital city today.

after being placed in a chokehold by n-y-p-d officers. wis' mike desumma caught up with erica garner today. he joins us now from our newsroom with more. meaghan -- video of mr. garner's arrest sparked national outrage after it was posted online. months later a staten island grand jury ruled against indicting the officer involved. today erica garner said while she's continuing to seek justice for her father -- she's also focusing on who the next president should be. she stopped at the 'cecil tillis center' to speak before voters. garner said she was drawn to bernie sanders campaign after learning about his record on social issues involving african americans. that includes time he spent in jail for protesting segregated schools in the 1960s -- and his involvement with the the movement of dr. martin luther king jr. garner says sanders is the best candidate to take on on economic issues facing the black community -- including the need for jobs. "umm the fact that he's for us. he's for black lives matter. he's a protestor..his whole record is him protesting and putting his body on the line and getting arrested for

nh and then next week my total focus is going to be right here in south carolina." evangelical conservative texas senator ted cruz got no boost in new hampshire polls from his iowa caucus win, but florida senator marco rubio's support surged. he's polling second here... and rubio figures he will be targeted at tonight's debate ... by the governors: christie, kasich, and bush... only one of whom might have a shot after new hampshire jeb bush was high energy today at a big town hall...but his polls are trending down "who has the record of not cutting and running but solving problems you're looking at him. his name is jeb bush." john kasich worked a restaurant in manchester... before what could be his most critical debate. kasich's polls are rising fast... he's tied for third here with cruz and the debate could be critical for trump... who lost iowa soon after he ducked the iowa debate. winning in this state on tuesday that and showcase trump as the strong

"it means a lot cause ya know i have seen a lot of changes and we've had a lot of setbacks but its like we're not where we used to be...so we're everything...so why can't we treat each other alike?" columbia native and r&b singer angie stone was the grand marshal. the parade was followed by a celebration at martin luther king jr. park. the famously hot city is getting a taste of new orleans today. the 'krewe de columbiyaya parade' kicked off this morning near owens field. it was followed by a free festival at city roots urban farm. it was filled with food, a long lineup of live entertainment and costumes of all shapes and sizes.

-- a group that parties during mardi gras and upholds the party spirit throughout the year. "we wanted to support city roots, because they were damaged by the flood. it's always just a fun event to bring the kids to and get dressed up and have a good time." there is still time to join the party. the festival at city roots goes until 7. more than 800 runners, walkers and kids pounded the streets of columbia this morning to celebrate the united service organizations 75th the annual m-g-c long run took runners through parts of the capital city as well as west columbia and cayce. all proceeds support the 'uso south carolina' -- which manages a reception area for service members flying in or out of columbia. last year the long run raised 25-thousand dollars. after clear skies and lows in the mid/upper 20s saturday morning, highs will be in the upper 40s, lower 50s saturday afternoon

francisco. today...joe caught up with a former gamecock to get his super bowl perspective. joe..... rick... here in the bay area gamecocks football's well represented. starting with former wide out damiere byrd on the panthers practice squad. he's hoping his team earns the ring. the hometown team in san fran... the 49ers... feature former usc stars. from bruce ellington, mike davis, busta anderson... to quarterback dylan thompson. today i had a chance to catch up with thompson. he reflected on his usc days and how his experiences from high school to college molded him into the type of man and quarterback he is today. he came to carolina as a two star recruit. people doubted he would be successful in college let alone play pro ball. well thompson bottles up the doubters thoughts to fuel him today. although he's a back up qb for the niners today... the ultimate goal is to be a starter on the same stage

two days after taking a nasty spill...usc basketball star tiffany mitchell returns to practice. for this afternoon's workout. this is amazing when you look at how hard she hit the floor in thursday's win over kentucky. she left the game and spent the second half on the bench. mitchell has a lower back bruise....head coach dawn staley told us yesterday she expects the all- american to play monday against top ranked uconn. tiffany: i was just kind of running..i was getting the feeling of going back and down the court..i'm taking it day by day. i'm a little banged up but i've reporter: that looked really terrible the other night. tiffany:it felt terrible too...so @:15
