morning after florida is hit by red on traffic map = major delays yellow on traffic map = some delays green on traffic map = no delays green on traffic map = no delays following breaking news this morning after florida is hit by it's first hurricane in more than ten years. let's head to nicole in the newsroom for the latest. early this morning hermine weakened to a tropical storm as inland. here's a live look at tampa, fl --- where things are a lot calmer than last night. hermine hit the gulf coast of florida with strong winds and heavy rain. the storm made landfall overnight in the big bend area as a hurricane. the storm taking down trees and power lines... right now thousands of homes now without electricity. hermine is expected to move into the carolinas and up the east coast today with the potential for drenching

for the labor day weekend --- the storm system is expected to create many travel troubles at airports along the east coast. also breaking overnight ---- firefighters save one person from burning apartment complex in whitefish bay. north shore fire crews were called out to the scene near henry clay and diversey early this morning. the person rescued was evaluated by paramedics on scene...but the victim's condition has not been released. the cause of the fire is under investigt and this morning milwaukee police are investigating three shootings happening overnight. the first taking place near 86th and hampton. police say a 21-year-old man was shot after two people tried robbing him.. the man is expected to survive and police continue to search for suspects. police are also searching for suspects in connection to two other shootings. we're told a 26-year-old man was shot near 20th and nash just before two this morning. police say his injury is serious

arrests have been made in the case. then around 3:15....a 35-year-old man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound....but police say the victim won't tell them where he was shot. he is also expected to survive. sobering new numbers on violence in milwaukee. the city's homicide rate for the month of august is one for the record books... deandra corinthios is live from mpd headquarters downtown...with a message from police chief ed flynn... chief flynn says the violence there were 24 homicides in august. the highest total in 25 years when police discovered the bodies of serial killer jeffery dahmer's victims... in july of 1991. in a news conference thursday chief flynn said milwaukee's murder rate was so high...it surpassed chicago. this...despite the fact that chicago also experienced a record-setting 90 homicides in august. flynn says the majority of homicides in milwaukee stem from gun violence between convicted offenders...

inside and became trapped. a man was driving by and stopped to help. he explains how they were able to get one person out. "a gentleman and myself were able to kick in the windshield and get the passenger out one of the two people then he kept asking please help my brother get my brother out and we were unable to get the driver out he was quite wedged in to the vehicle." paramedics and police arrived on scene pretty quickly and were able to get minutes. we are working to get an update on the driver's condition this morning. happening now --- west bend police are increasing patrols around mclane elementary school after a teacher found a loaded pistol magazine yesterday near the school. police have swept the grounds of the school... and say they found no gun. they will continue to investigate who the bullets belonged to. no perfect preseason for the packers --- they just couldn't keep up

north at watertown plank road for 2 weeks. 41 north will go from 3 lanes to 2 lanes in this area. the right lane will become an exit only at watertown plank road. traffic coming from i-94 west to i-41 north will want to move over to the left as the right lane will exit at watertown plank road. this closure reopens just north of watertown plank road, however we do anticipate back-ups on i-41 north and on i-94 west north, especially during the am and pm peak. commuters from the northwest may want to consider utilizing wis 175 to lisbon/appleton to i-41 during these two weeks. friday 9/9: there will be an extended overnight closure of i-41 south at watertown plank road as crews
