civilian on life support - after being shot during charlotte's second night of violent protests. this comes after police fatally shot a man tuesday who they say had a gun. kim's in the newsroom with the very latest. north carolina governor pat mccrory's declared a state of emergency in response to the violent protests. we've learned the national guard just arrived in charlotte. the night began peacefully... with a prayer vigil for keith schott. but then... a group broke off that's where things soon got out of hand. someone in that group was shot - but city officials say it wasn't an officer who pulled the trigger. at last check... that man is on life support in critical condition. after that shooting... police began firing tear gas... to try to break up the crowds... as community leaders call for peace. "i would encourage you to exercise your right to protest but to remember that there is a right way to protest. and destruction of property and violence does

in the streets well into the early hours of the morning. protesters broke windows... and attacked reporters and bystanders - even knocking over a c-n-n reporter live on air. that reporter says he was startled, but okay. president obama called charlotte's mayor yesterday... promising assistance where needed. the white house says the president is continuing to get updates on the protests. and we're also following breaking news aircraft has crashed off the island of okinawa... after taking off from the u-s airbase there. a u.s. marine corps pilot ejected safely.... when the fighter jet crashed into the water. the pilot was rescued. he was the only one on board. officials say the flight was a routine training mission. meanwhile... here in milwaukee... police say a man was seriously hurt in a shooting. it happened near teutonia and graling groeling shortly after midnight.officials tell fox 6 news police responded to a shots fired call...and found a

gunshot wound... in the street. police are now investigating what led up to that shooting. milwaukee police are investigating the shooting of a nine year old boy... police say the shooter is a young family member. deandra corinthios is live from children's hospital with the latest the nine year old victim is here at children's hospital. police say he is seriously injured. and police say the shooting appears to be accidental. milwaukee police were called to 20th and hadley wednesday afternoon. the sho place inside a home in the area. police removed a young child from the home. investigators say the shooter... is a child related to the victim. sources say that child... is a six year old. family members tell us off camera its the victims brother. officials describe the nine year old's injuries as 'serious.' sources say he was shot in the neck and back. neighbors are saddened by the situation. 'ive been in this neighborhood for over 30-some years and the crime that is over here now is ridiculous.'

" tommy zollicoffer" all face charges of first-degree reckless homicide. this shooting happened near 26th and auer last september. 39-year-old kealicia clark died -- and another man was hospitalized.prosecutors say the suspects were trying to get revenge from an earlier homicide. fipps and zollicoffer are both in custody -- but brown remains on the run -- and a warrant is out for his arrest. developing now... a veterans home accused of abuse... will be audited by the state of wisconsin. latest. lawmakers unanimously approved an audit of king yesterday in madison. the veterans home is located just outside waupaca... roughly two hours northwest of milwaukee. residents and their family members say the staff has mistreated and neglected residents....leading to broken bones and spreading infections. during the hearing...wisconsin's secretary of veterans affairs defended the home... our investigators were out there from dhs and our star ratings are 5 and 4. none of the concerns have been substantiated as of

year to face a reckless homicide charge for an overdose in kenosha county. two chevy impalas... stolen from the same place just one day apart. monday morning-- a maroon chevy impala was stolen from 60th near capitol. a man woke up to find his car was gone. the next day, the man's upstairs neighbor discovered her brown chevy impala was gone... after she parked it near a garage at 60th and capitol. police say it may ha stolen. there weren't any other reports of impalas were stolen from district 7 in the last couple of days. but... so far this year, more than 800 vehicles have been stolen from district 7 alone. with less than a week to go until the first presidential debate on monday... the latest marquette law school poll shows the race is getting even tighter here in wisconsin. this month hillary clinton dropped one point among likely voters from the previous poll and donald trump stayed the same in a

"as far as sound quality goes, we found no significant differences with the new wired headphone connection." apple is claiming the iphone seven plus is a photographers dream-- with more megapixels on the selfie camera and the addition of a second lens allowing for optical zoom on the main camera. in charlotte. by early morning ... police in riot gear controlled the streets of charlotte, north carolina. but just a few hours earlier, the scene was very different. a second night of unrest gripped the city ... as protesters angry over the death of keith lamont scott vented their rage scott was shot tuesday -- police say he brandished a weapon but his family says he was reading a book in his vehicle. wednesday evening, north carolina's governor declared a state of emergency and said he'd deploy both the national guard and the state highway patrol to charlotte. one person was shot by another civilian, according to authorities, and is in the hospital on life support. several police officers were injured. journalists were caught up in the chaos. nats boris sanchez gassed one reporter was knocked to the

some demonstrators stood in front of the police line in an effort to maintain peace ... and there were those who tried to calm the tensions ... toussaint romain/public defender "i'm trying to prevent people from being hurt, my brothers are out here too they're trying to do it the right way." and charlotte's mayor pleaded for peace to be restored to the city's streets voice of mayor jennifer roberts/d charlotte, nc "this is not -- we do not support violent protests, violence is not the answer." the officer who shot keith lamont scott was not wearing a body camera ... but other officers were and th also video from a police dashboard camera. none of that footage has been released -- officials say it is still under review. chicago's police department plans to hire nearly 1-thousand new officers. angelica's following that and more from across america. the chicago police department says it will make 970 new hires over the next two years. that includes 516 patrol officers. the decision comes after the city hit 5- hundred homicides this year. this is the deadliest year in 2

city plans to pay for its new hires - or just how much it will all cost. panic in new york... after a pressure cooker is spotted under a major expressway in the bronx... right during the rush hour commute. the device was found under an overpass... forcing police to shut down the major deegan expressway for a few hours. the bomb squad was called to the scene to investigate ... but police say the pressure cooker was empty... and there were no wires or phones attached. around the same time... a second suspicious package was found all-clear for both scenes last night. a warning sign in a texas school district... making national headlines. the sign... put up in medina... reads" please be aware that the staff may be armed and will use whatever force is necessary to protect our students." the school's superintendent says nothing specific prompted the signs... but the district's remote location was a factor. officials say they hope the sign will be a deterrent.

will go up across more entrances in the medina school district... so no one will miss the warning. u-s officials suspect isis fired a shell with mustard agent at an iraqi air base where several hundred u-s troops are stationed. troops tested the shell twice for the chemical agent - with mixed results. they're sending it to a lab for more tests. no soldiers were hurt... or showed symptoms of exposure to mustard agent... but they went through decontamination to be safe. officials called the shell ineffective. levels of the chemical featured in the movie "erin brockovitch" ... in tap water consumed by hundreds of millions of americans. an independent advocacy group says chromium 6 has been found in roughly two-thirds of the u-s population's drinking water. oklahoma... arizona... and california had the highest average statewide levels. the e-p-a never set a specific limit for chromium-6 in drinking water... is planning to release an assessment of the chemical next year. it's not commenting any further
