day. clear skies at night will cool us into the mid 40s with some patchy fog. today: mostly sunny and warm. high: 66 wind: wsw 5-10 mph a 40-year-old milwaukee man has been arrested for impersonating a police officer. we're told by investigators the man identified himself as an officer and ordered a driver to pull over. it happened thursday afternoon -- near 17th and west highland avenue. police have yet to say how he was caught.

uniform and his car was similar to an unmarked squad car. those that frequent the area tell us this is particularly disturbing since a school filled with children is nearby. "i'm going to stress the fact that a school is there. that makes it that more unsettling for me as a parent and staff member." experts say you have a right to ask for an id from an officer and make sure it matches their badge number. you authorities if you believe someone is impersonating a police official. this case will be presented to the milwaukee district attorney in the coming days. five people -- now charged in connection to a kenosha homicide. here are four of the suspects -- charged with first degree intentional homicide. authorities won't release the mugshot of the fifth suspect -- because he's only 16 years old. the suspects are accused of shooting and killing "willie owens" two weeks ago.

all five suspects returned later and shot owens. the woman convicted of killing two men in a crash last december is sentenced to 15 years in prison... 24-year-old jasmine ray pleaded guilty to two counts of of homicide by vehicle -- with use of a controlled substance. last december -- she crashed a stolen car into another vehicle and fled the scene. 59-year-old darrell thompson and 57- year-old terry jackson were both killed. president joe biden was in madison to campaign for hillary clinton. but he spent just as much time on wisconsin's dead-heat u-s senate race. political reporter theo keith says biden appeared to have two priorities yesterday. biden and feingold embracejoe biden hugged russ feingold -- and then ripped into his opponent, republican u-s senator ron johnson. this guy doesnt even

falcons, the packers didn't lose any ground in the division and their offense was very productive, even without a running game. it's something that gives the packers some optimism heading into this weekend's game against the colts. mostly sunny and warm. high: 66 wind: wsw 5-10 mph is killed, another wounded during a search for a suspect in a home invasion. it happened yesterday in the bronx. authorities say the officers were trying to approach the suspect in a vehicle when the gunman, manuel rosales, opened fire. sergeant paul tuozollo two-zollo was killed in the shooting, as well as the suspect.a second officer was shot in the leg and is in stable condition.

mourning and particularly all the men and women of the precinct in mourning right now - the loss, good man, devoted man, a man who commited his life to protecting all of us." tuozollo was a 19-year veteran of the n-y-p-d. he's survived by his wife and three-year-old son. federal authorities announced a major gang and drug bust states. the investigation involves 20 members and acquaintances of a gang named "mad stone bloods." those arrested face charges from murder to drug trafficking. the accused are from texas, new york, maryland, georgia and virginia. officials have also charged several virginia state corrections employees in connection with the crimes. investigators say three virginia department of corrections employees allegedly tried to

allegedly in a sexual relationship with a gang member. the gang's leaders were allegedly based out of new york. election officials in oregon are warning about a phone scam targeting voters. in oregon -- registered voters receive their ballots by mail. after filling it out, they mail it or drop it off in special ballot boxes. but oregon's secretary of state says some voters are getting robocalls warning them that they're not registered and their ballots won't be counted. officials say those wrong. the u-s department of justice has been asked to investigate the calls. early voting in milwaukee continues through the end of the day today. at least one republican leader is looking beyond this election...at a possible push to put new limits on early voting in wisconsin. he says its about keeping an even playing field across the state.

afternoon at the early voting location in midtown shopping center. a day earlier, milwaukee mayor tom barrett announces more than 38-thousand city voters already cast ballots - a record for the city. we always felt that if we had more locations and more hours, that more people would want to vote early. milwaukee can have extended early voting hours and three early polling places thanks for a federal judges ruling this summer. judge james peterson struck down limitations passed by the their argument is uniform early voting hours ensure an even playing field for rural communities that cant afford to staff multiple locations and hours that match milwaukees. speaker robin vos says republicans will likely revisit early voting laws next year. attorney rick esenberg, from the conservative wisconsin institute for law and liberty expects at least part of the judges ruling, which is under appeal, to be overturned. at least the striking down of the limitation on the length of the early voting

after police say he was trying to impersonate a police officer. it happened in broad daylight near the corner of near 17th and highland. our angelica sanchez has this fox "impersonating is not a joke especially an authority like that." mahogani cheeks works at highland community school. she's been a member of this community for more than 20 years. she's concerned a man was attempting to impersonate a police officer in her neighborhood. "i'm going to stress the fact that a school is there. that makes it that more unsettling for me as a parent and staff member." according to milwaukee police-- on

milwaukee man identified himself as a police officer and ordered a passing driver to pull over. police have yet to say what happened next. the suspect is now in police custody. a source with fox 6 tells us he was wearing a police like uniform and his car was similar to an unmarked squad car. criminal justice expert brian dorow says incidents like this are rare but there are ways to distinguish a police impersonator. "as a rule of thumb... there's a very slim chance that an unmarked squad will ever pull somebody over for a traffic stop." dorow says in the slim chance this does happen a driver should s badge. they should be able to show you an id that matches their badge number. he says a civilian has the right to request an id and the right to call authorities to report suspicion of a possible impersonator. "most departments have a protocol of some kind that when some type of police interaction is going to take place they will have a marked vehicle make initial contact... that's also for officers safety as well." meanwhile residents like cheeks hope this was an isolated incident.

now at 8-30... a look at this morning's top stories. a 40-year-old milwaukee man has been arrested for impersonating a police officer. we're told by investigators the man identified himself as an officer and ordered a driver to pull over. it happened thursday afternoon -- near 17th and west highland avenue. police have yet to say how he was caught. crime, but three suspects are caught red handed. they were arrested after police say they stole thousand of dollars worth of merchandise from the oak creek meijer. authorities say they cut open big box items like vacuums and grills, took those items out and filled them with other merchandise. police say the stolen goods totaled more than $9,000. all three suspects have been charged with retail theft. five people -- now charged in connection to a kenosha

lot in common... they are both in temporary housing, fearful of the unfamiliar situation and what lies ahead. thanks to a new partnership travis county inmates and austin animal center dogs are giving each other hope. fox's noelle newton has the story. nats - dog trainer sampson has been at the austin animal says: "he was a stray. he was kind of like depressed and a little kind of broken down when he arrived, a little rough around the edges." while behavior specialist dennis weaver and other volunteers worked with him, there was still room for improvement. the perfect opportunity came from an unexpected place - the travis county correctional complex. hammond says: "it's an absolute life- saving partnership" on thursday the austin animal center announced a new program that

first four week course, a dozen female inmates trained four dogs. in the new course a dozen male inmates will serve as trainers. the inmates teach the dogs to be house-trained and understand basic commands.... like sit, lie down and how to walk on a leash. all skills will improve a dog's chances of being adopted. the inmates also stand to benefit. hammond says: "they come out of it with a piece of paper but it's more, it's life skills and experiences they can carry with them on their next leg of hope is a positive one full of opportunities" the sheriff's office and shelter will soon expand the program to include overnight stays. dogs will remain with the inmates in their cells. hammond says: "when a pet is in a shelter, it's a very stressful artificial environment. they don't know why they're there. it means everything to these pets to get out of that artificial environment" sampson is a new dog. weaver says: "he's loose, he's soft, he's gentle, he has really soft eyes." he is ready for a family. and so is
