stunning upset if you look at the results of the most recent marquette law school poll...showing hillary clinton with a six point lead over trump. that was just over a week ago. now a lot of democrats are shocked...wondering where things went wrong for them. at a watch party tuesday night in the madison area..clinton supporters expected a clean sweep but the room cleared out, and few were there to watch as the last few states were called, or to explain what happened. this is the first time since 1984 when wisconsin has not gone democrat. based on polling...hillary clinton was positioned to win the state's 10 electoral votes. this --even despite the fact that she hadn't set foot in wisconsin to campaign since the primary...sending surrogates instead. both wisconsin democrats and republicans agree...the pollsters missed something big. republicans agree...the pollsters missed something big. 50-percent of the vote in wisconsin...to russ feingold's 47-percent. our carl deffenbaugh joins us now with more on that race. heading into election day, the battle for the us senate seat out of wisconsin was heading into election day, the battle for the us senate seat out of wisconsin was projected to be one of the tightest races out there. but in the end, it was a relatively early call as incumbent ron johnson will head back to washington for one more term. in oshkosh as johnson pulled off the upset over his democratic challenger. russ feingold, the former senator, led in the polls for practically the entire campaign. but those numbers tightened towards the end of the race, his lead down to just a point entering election day. and it turned out to not even be that close. feingold called johnson a little after 10pm to concede the race -- the second time in six years

decide coverage. it was mostly a smooth night at the polls. our julie collins joins us now with more on the turnout for election day. julie? wisconsinites made their voices heard in this eleciton - and many did it early. long lines were reported in some communities early in the day with election officals estimated that 20 to 30 - percent of the city's registered voters first two hours of the polls opening. officials say there were only minor issues with people remembering their identifications - and in those cases they were given provisional ballots. for most voters the process was a breeze. cass street school is historically one of the busiest polling locations and they reported shorter lines than in past years. headlines - an arrest has been made in connection to the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a little girl. milwaukee police say they've found the porsche s-u-v that was involved in the crash. it was recovered on the city's north side. we're told one person has been arrested... but police are still looking for the known driver. 5-year-old rickyia langham. was killed while crossing the street with her mother on sunday. she was on her way to church near leon terrace and constance avenue. arrest after a fatal crash near 60th and norwich. the 27-year-old hit a 50-year-old woman in the crosswalk monday afternoon. the driver did stay on scene -- and cooperated with police. he now faces charges of operating after suspension causing death. and in kenosha... a 19-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing the street monday night... near 55th and washington road. police say lavonta mcmath died on scene.... and he did was not in a crosswalk... and didn't have a

hillary clinton was poised to win wisconsin...based on the polls...and based on history. wisconsin has gone democrat in seven straight presidential elections... now for the first time since ronald reagan...the state turned red. it was quite a night of surprises for supporters of donald trump. wisconsin's trump campaign leaders joined supporters of ron johnson and local trump supporters to watch election returns at the oshkosh as state after state was called for trump. meanwhile at a hillary clinton watch party in the madison area...supporters were stunned. the most recent marquette law school poll..out just over a week ago showed clinton with a healthy 6 point lead over trump. leading the poll director to say it would quote "take something truly dramatic" well that's what happened. it was a surprise even for the most confident trump supporters who say they were still concerned about the polls, which predicted hillary

battle for the us senate seat from wisconsin between ron johnson and russ feingold. as it was johnson celebrating on election night in oshkosh, holding onto his seat after a contentious campaign. feingold, who served three terms in the senate before losing to johnson six years ago, led for most of the race. but things tightened in the closing weeks and johnson ended up getting a relatively early win -- with feingold calling to concede a little after 10pm. so johnson heads back to washington to continue his work, while feingold was left only with questions. "we have to realize the full potential of the american economy. that'll give us the recourses to save social security, medicare, strengthen our military, defeat isis and secure our border. which are the big issues." wearing their "i voted" stickers yesterday and many smiling about the process saying it was an easy one. overall a smooth night for both voters and poll workers ...election officals telling fox 6 no major issues at the polls - however, with the voter id law in pace there were some voters who forgot their ids...they were given provisional ballots. cass street school is busiest locations. there was a major rush there on tuesday morning...it turned into a steady stream on tuesday afternoon with 13- hundereds voters casting a ballot. tuesday evening voters saying they experienced shorter lines than in the past. nomination this year. but after ending his presidential aspirations, rubio changed his mind and sought a second term in the senate. another former presidential candidate - senator rand paul - won his re-election bid in kentucky as well. and in indiana... republican todd young defeated evan bayh bye in a race for an open seat. the race was closely watched across the nation - with polls showing bayh holding a lead - but young flooded t-vs with ads to counter bayh. the democrat had given up the seat six years ago to leave politics... and before governor. young had served in congress for three terms before this race. congress will stay under republican control... with republicans holding 51 senate seats... and democrats at 47. with a republican congress... and republican president... all eyes will be turning to the judicial branch - where the late justice antonin scalia's seat has yet to be filled. and the republican victories don't stop there. now - the last democratic state

marijuana... on the ballots in nine different s california, nevada and massachusetts voted to legalize recreational use of marijuana for adults 21 and older... while florida and north dakota passed measures to legalize medical marijuana. pot is still illegal under federal law... but state laws have relaxed over the years. according to a gallup poll released in august-- the number of adults who smoked weed has nearly doubled in three years. it's currently legal to use recreational marijuana only in four states
