a burglary in progress when a suspect armed with a handgun fired at them suspect armed with a handgun fired at them this happened near 27th and ruby shortly before 10:30 p-m after the suspect fired the shots, an officer returned fire. no one was hit ...no officers were injured the suspect took off running...and after a brief foot chase a 23 year old man from milwaukee was arrested a spokesperson for the police an arrest record with them. his name has not been released. the case now goes to the milwaukee county district attorney's office... they'll review it and decide on charges. reporting live in milwaukee deandra corinthios fox6 news. three families are homeless this morning after an apartment fire in south milwaukee. around two this morning fire crews were called out to 13th and manistique for a kitchen fire. the red cross is helping ten

damage was done by the fire. two people are rushed to the hospital after a crash in milwaukee. it happened just before 8-30 last night near 6th and oklahoma. police say one of the two injured was trapped in one of the cars and had to cut out of the vehicle. it's unclear how severe the injuries are at this time...or what caused the crash. and in franklin - police are looking for a motorcyclist who took off from a crash. investigators say around 10-30 last night two motorcycles crashed into each other near 76th and was taken to the hospital...and is expected to survive. the crash is under investigation. a big setback for brendan dassey and his family. one of the men featured in the "making a murderer" documentary will remain locked up in prison. nicole is in the newsroom with details. the 7th u-s circuit court of appeals sided with wisconsin attorney general brad schimel -- blocking dassey from getting out.

thrown out in august. the 7th circuit court of appeals in chicago will now decide whether or not to uphold that ruling. in dassey's hometown of mishicot, many are disappointed by the ruling. many say they are uncomfortable with the confession dassey gave after controversial questioning from police. brendan really got coexed into a lot of things. that's wrong. it's like picking up mud and picking it up at a wall and seeing what is going to stick. the people that come in here do not think he should be in there. the hands of the 7th circuit court of appeals --- judges must decide to whether to uphold dassey's murder convection from being overturned. there is no time line on when they will make their decision. you can track dassey's and steven avery's fight for freedom. just go onto fox six now dot com. search "avery archive" to check out developments in this story going back as far as 2003. now to a developing story --- a lawsuit if filed against the

a woman is suing for mistreatment that resulted in the death of her newborn in the jail. 30-year-old shade shaw-day swayzer was arrested when she was 8 and half months pregnant. she was placed in a maximum security unit. her attorney says when she alerted guards that she was in labor nothing was done she claims she was forced to have the baby inside her cell-- and within hours it died. the medical examiner has not determined if the baby was born alive or stillborn. we've reached out the sheriff's office for comment, but haven't heard back. accused of secretly-recording the women's restroom at a bar is expected in court today. christopher bohatkiewicz had been working at kenosha's sullivan's place as a friday night d-j for a couple years.prosecutors say he admitted to placing a spy camera pen on the floor of the women's restroom. police say the device captured images of eight people. he's since ben released on bail... his preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 this morning. also happening later today --- we should learn more details

public schools. angelcia is here with a preview. superintendent dr. darienne driver will share an update on the proposal later this morning. if approved the district would move to one calendar starting in mid- august and ending in may. the one major change is the addition of the "j-term," a four-week session in june. during the j-term, students can complete or take courses that didn't fit into their schedule, participate in internship opportunities and get ahead or stay on track for the milwaukee board of school directors and the state department of public instruction will both have to approve the change before it can happen. superintendent driver will give us an update on the proposal at ten this morning at the m-p-s central services building. still to come on wake up -- another company is trying to cash in on the selfie craze. plus.. he's not just bungee jumping.. he's bungee dunking! later on wake up --- the

access will remain open as well. the ramp to i-41/894 south from i-94 east will move west about 3/4 of a mile. take note of this change in decision point. if you are traveling to the tuesday or in the early morning hours wednesday, allow extra time and utilize moorland road to i- 43 north / i-894 east to the airport. lastly, if you are heading north on i- 41/894 during the holiday week, keep in mind that the traffic switch has occurred on the northbound route. stay left if you are continuing north on i-41 and right if you plan to travel east or west on i-94 at the zoo interchange. the first snowfall of the season forced traffic on a major colorado interstate to come to a halt. interstate-70 in the mountains was closed in multiple places due to car accidents and slide-offs.

27th and ruby. it was about 10:30 p-m and milwaukee police officers arrived in the area for a burglary in progress call when a suspect armed with a handgun fired shots at them. one of the police officers fired back...but no one was struck. the suspect fled the scene on foot and officers ran after him... after a brief foot chase the 23 year old man was arrested. the case is now in the hands of the milwaukee county district attorne's milwaukee police tell us no officers were injured. reporting live in milwaukee deandra corinthios fox6 news. also breaking breaking news out in california --- where firefighters are on the scene of a dramatic blaze at a pallet yard in perris. the 1/2-acre fire was reported at 2:49 a.m. west coast time. fire officals say here were no immediate reports of injuries, and no structures were threatened. now the latest on the search for cricket wireless robbery suspect... police have released

police say he's the guy who shot a customer during an armed robbery at a west allis cricket wireless store thursday night. it happened at the location on highway-100 near cleveland. the customer will be okay. an argument along a rail road track has a horrific ending. mukwonago police say a man pushed his girlfriend to the ground... moments before a train passed, leaving her with devastating injuries. it happened monday night off county highway n-n. according to a criminal complaint, 22-year-old brandon calkins pushed the victim's mother told police she believed her daughter lost consciousness and was eventually run over by the train. the victim's arm was amputated. calkins was charged with three misdemeanors and only faces months behind bars. "it sends is anybody can commit an egregious act of violence and potentially not be held accountable for it." it's unclear exactly why the charges are not more severe.

brendan dassey will not be home for the holidays. he will remain in prison despite his murder conviction being overturned. angelica is here with details. the 7th u-s circuit court of appeals sided with wisconsin attorney general brad schimel -- blocking dassey from getting out. he was set to be freed under the supervision of the u-s probation office, but attorney general schimel filed a motion tuesday blocking dassey's release. dassey's conviction for his role in the rape and murder of teresa halbach was thrown out in august. the 7th circuit court of appeals whether or not to uphold that ruling. dassey's lawyers say they're disappointed with the decision. and coming up in the next half hour....hear how dassey's hometown is responding the decision. florida police looking for man who plowed his car into a crowd during a fight scene outside of a bar. and a minnesota officer who shot and killed a black man during a traffic stop is expected to be in court today. jessob is in the newsroom with details. the officer involved shooting of

and streamed live on facebook. jeronimo yanez faces charges of second- degree manslaughter in connection with the shooting during a traffic stop in july. yanez shot and killed castile after pulling him over for a broken tail light. castile's fiancee says the officer shot castile as he reached for his wallet. she says castile had a license to carry a weapon and that he had been trying to tell yanez about the gun. castile's family says they plan to file a civil suit. injured after shots are fired at a toddler's birthday party in tennessee. and police say they are still searching for three shooters. the violence breaking out late thursday in the town of dyersburg. the ages of the people shot range in age from 6 to 32. the victims were on the front porch when the shots were fired. police continue to investigate. and in tampa, florida....a fight caught on camera... the group of men throwing punches outside a bar.
