troops in afghanistan than iraq. there are now 94,000 troops in afghanistan and 92,000 in iraq. at the height of the work, there were 160,000 troops anin iraq. gay rights activists headed to the white house to talk about the don't ask don't tell policy. they met with officials about moving along the appeal reject repeal process. legislation was expected to be introduced this week but even if so, it would still take some time to go to the pentagon. today, the naval academy tradition continued but with some major changes. brad bell is live and to show what has changed. >> not everybody agrees. last year, there were a number of injuries.

what they got today was a record time for the climb but also an event which many people said was anticlimactic. the monument climb began as it always has, with the freshman class sprinting toward the granite obelisk. that is where the similarities came to an end. usually slathered in lard rounded with mud, this year, a monument was bone dry. some in the crowd called it a military battle of wimpy does. >> we are training these kids to go into harm's way. they should not be concerned whether they are injured on something like this. with the safety measures have were not publicly pronounced. it was suggested the plan had become too dangerous but that was the talk of the academy. we cannot find anybody who agreed. >> this is a camaraderie building event.

an embarrassing moment for the british royal family. sarah ferguson caught on tape soliciting a bribe. the video, secretly shot by a british tabloid has a reporter posing as it is this man saying he wants access to the former trade representative. he says he will exchange money for access to the prince.

the virginia department of transportation has an idea to save money but the need volunteers. >> this could well be a first. they want people to come and cut the grass. we are here in mclean. vdot is supposed to mow the grass along most of the roads in

the state. however, serious budget cuts are living things looking more and more like this for and now, they want residents to help out. she showed how the grass has grown way too high. >> it used to be a great place to have picnics. your dog's could come down here. it is like a kick haven. vdot said $20 million in budget cuts means fewer no wings. it can be taller than some citizens want to say. there is a process in place where motorists and citizens can apply to mow those areas. >> they can sign up to know is stretched similar to the adopt a high weight situation. only in areas with speed limits of 45 miles per hour or less. >> it will be hard for them to find volunteers to bring their

of less than one. incredible. the nationals have the day off and start a 10 game road trip tomorrow. the nationals took two of three from the orioles over the weekend. he is currently leading the national league with a 0.325 batting average. he will be back around june 6. that means they want him to catc steven strasburg . the cleveland cavaliers coach -- fired the coach. brown is gone. steve nash is starting to look more like a hockey player. he took another shot to the face last night. he had surgery to repair the broken nose. he will not miss a game. he actually practiced before going to the hospital.

the french open is under way and roger federer overcame a controversial one call to win. he lost only 14 of his 64 points on serve. the dominant straight upset win. topeka, kansas. super trapunto his car catches fire and explodes. the body of the car separate from the chassis and goes airborne. a fan was killed by a degree in february but nobody seriously hurt in this deal. the driver is a 31 year veteran and sat in the cockpit. he was not injured. it is miraculous nobody was killed. the nfl will announce the location for super bowl 58. it looks like new york city might be the spot. it cold weather superbowl.
