the virginia state delegate proposes to raise cgas

prices for the first time in many years. the democrats as raising the tax would help raise revenues and plug a $1 billion budget shortfall. the governor says he will not support any kind of tax increase. this proposal comes as drivers are already digging deeper in their pockets to fill their tanks. >> the average price for a gallon of gas has risen 12 cents over the past three weeks. john gonzalez is live with more. >> good morning. it is interesting to see when gas prices start to go up and how people try to save money. they fill up half a tank and use regular instead of premium and they drive slower. these things are going into effect this morning. the average price of a gallon of regular gas has increased 12 cents over the past three weeks. analysts say these prices could continue climbing the its crude oil prices remain steady.

according to the lundberg survey, an average gallon of regular gas if it is $3.36 currently. this is the first increase since mid october of last year. experts tell us that these record prices could go up. poughkeepsie record numbers in 2012. some commuters we spoke with this morning say they have already felt the pinch. >> a significant increase in gas prices within the last two weeks. my daily commutes is 67 days -- 60 or 70 miles a day. i have noticed that it costs me a lot more to travel to work. it's ridiculous. i am not sure why prices are going up. >> you can see on route 1 and college park, $3.39 for regular. why this is jumping? anywhere from high taxes on ethanol to oil pipeline delays in iran. whatever the case, this is not

night in tucson marking the anniversary of the shooting that nearly killed over a period of the vigil was one of several attributes to victims. jummy olabanji is on capitol hill joining us with more. >> good morning. there were dozens of memorials and remembrances held all over the country yesterday to mark the one-year anniversary of the shooting in tucson. there was an event held in washington d.c., where gabrielle giffords last work, and the event last night in tucson where we got to see more of her remarkable road to recovery. >> i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america. >> congresswoman gabrielle giffords began yesterday beaming with pride its foreign country and her community. >> those of us who survived were forever changed by that moment. >> thousand across the country came together to mark ures passing since the day when a gunman opened fire on the

we want to check our top stories. the republican presidential candidates attack the front- runner mitt romney and each other as the clock ticks toward tomorrow's first in the nation primary. polls show mitt romney with a big lead in the granite state . his opponents will fan out all across the state again today. a bad cable was blamed for an overnight power outage in a book was d.c. this was in the porter street area. homes and businesses were without power several hours. that has been restored. pepco says another outage in the same area is not connected to the previous outage. a montgomery county police officer is receiving the congressional battle prepare for his actions during a hostage crisis in 2010. officer edward e. paden jr. went into the discovery communications building in sales -- in silver spring and freed people being held there. the weekend in tucson

include prayers and remembrances for the tragic events that happened a year ago. congresswoman gabrielle giffords made the trip to arizona to mark the anniversary? of the shooting that left her severely wounded. jummy olabanji is live on capitol hill with more on the weekend events. >> gabrielle giffords has not been back to capitol hill on a daily basis for work as she looks to recover from the shooting. she says she will not come back until she is better. but yesterday during the remembrancer got a chance to see how well she has been doing. >> indivisible with liberty and justice all. [cheers] >> there was congresswoman giffords leading the crowd with the pledge of allegiance. this was the remembrance in tucson. we heard from city leaders there. we heard from shooting survivors and residents.

they live 19 candles for those killed and wounded in the shooting that happened last year on gary cates in tucson. there were other events held in washington. there was one at a baptist church where they had a day of reflection for the victims of gun violence. we heard from a local mother who lost a daughter as well as shooting survivor. giffords' guzman says the entire country and the initiative tucson are recovering and still healing. >> tucson remains a great city a special place, an oasis in the desert where our bonds of community were strengthened under the stress and sadness of a horrible moment. >> gabrielle giffords remains in recovering at a hospital and in houston. her staff says that she continues to add to your
