>> americans killed in afghanistan. two officers are dead after being attacked inside of a heavily armored compound. >> a little snow earlier today. >> and oscar showdown. in 24 hours they will be hitting the red carpet. >> live and in hd, this is abc 7 news at 6:00 on your side. >> two military officers are dead tonight, assassinated by an afghan national. it was a major security breach. it happened inside of a heavily guarded building.

>> he seemed to have some inside help. >> there is no question that the deadly turn of events certainly raises the stakes in what was already a volatile situation. the shooting happened inside of the kick -- inside of afghanistan's minister of interior building. >> we had not had a identification. he opened fire on two soldiers. he killed them both. >> the telegram was quick to claim responsibility saying it was an -- the taliban was quick to read -- claimed responsibility saying it was in response to the koran burning earlier in the week. the u.s. military insists it was an accidental burning. >> we have made a mistake.

we ask for forgiveness. we seek to move on. >> the violence continues. the commander of u.s.-led nato forces has condemned the attack. he has also recalled all of the staff saying it was for their own protection. with no end to the protest inside, the situation is expected to only get worse. >> back here at home returned to the latest in the house fire in prince george's county that injured seven firefighters last night. a fireball from high winds and golfed firefighters as they battle to contain flames. richard reeve is live. >> witnesses described as a flash fire. look at the house. it is just a gutted shell. it was wind that fanned the

fire. we spoke to the mother of one of the injured firefighters. >> the wind continue to blow nonstop. >> they just said it was so quick, nobody really knew what was hitting them. >> it was a wind whipped blaze it brought area firefighters around 9:00 friday night. >> we have been referring to it as a blow torch effected. >> seven firefighters went inside and were confronted by a column of flame. >> the air fuel the fire. it made a big whirlwind inside of the house. it surrounded the firefighters. >> within 8 seconds an emergency radio signal went out. the crew was scrambling to escape. >> it pushed the thermal column right up through the steps and out of the front door on top of the seven guys. >> all 70 escaped with their

lives. after being amended -- after being evacuated, he is critically burned over 40% of his body. >> they are good young men. that will help them pull through this. >> michael mcclery has read it cartilage damage and first degree burns on this hand. >> i now know how my parents felt when i was doing it. i am proud of him. >> that was cheryl. she said she had to come by the house to see the fire that injured her son. per se son is now out of the hospital. two other firefighters remain in the hospital. all of the others have been released. the big mystery is how a fire started in this vacant house.
