scandal at penn state -- the pennsylvania governor is suing the ncaa. the n.c.a.a. find penn state $60 million after the sexual abuse trial and they money is supposed to finance child abuse prevention. pennsylvania lawmakers raised objections about the money being used outside the state. >> the possible threat led a southwest virginia school district to cancel the first day of class for 2013. giles county schools are closed today after police discovered a posting on line that mentioned the newtown, conn. shooting. in the wake of everything regarding in newtown, there are calls for many new safety measures. >> we have seen concern across

the area but specifically in montgomery county. let's check in with jummy olabanji. >> about two dozen parents at bradley hills elementary school had e-mailed letters of concern asking for security improvements. parents are angry that the front doors of the school remain unlocked throughout the day and there is no real process for visitors. bradley hills is under renovation so students are meeting at a temporary location. a school spokesman said the step of the school are trained and drills are conducted so they know what to do. he said all doors other than the main entrance are supposed to be kept locked during the school day and there are signs on the front door instructing visitors

to report to the bay in office. -- to the main office. they want school security updates by the end of next year but parents want those immediately. no word on if the school system plans to make those changes. >> thanks so much. starting today there will be armed police officers stationed at all the schools in marlboro township in new jersey in response to the connecticut school shooting. police officers in all schools will be the new normal while they figure out a security plan. >> new york city area lawmakers are angry after congress adjourned without voting on a bill to help victims of super storm center. the senate approved a $60 billion legislation on friday and the house was expected to vote on a smaller bill before the congress and tomorrow.

optimistic that they would be able to get something done before the new congress is sworn in later this week. the republicans signed off on the deal and anyone making less than $400,000 will not see tax increases. it will extend unemployment benefits as well. a number of members on the hill said this bill does not go far enough that there will be more fiscal showdown to come later in the year. other members of congress said the country could not afford not to pass this. >> what is the alternative? it is to allow $4 trillion worth of tax hikes for the american people. >> the bill does not address the debt ceiling. that is something they have been talking about because the country currently set a borrowing limit so congress will have to act on that in a couple of months. the new congress will be sworn in later this week and the president said yesterday 2013

redskins will practice for the first time since their well- preserved -- well-deserved new year's break. they play the seattle seahawks sunday. the last time the redskins were in the playoffs, they traveled and lost to these seattle seahawks. this time will be different hopefully. we have rgiii and home field advantage. the last lymphatic still posed a playoff game was in 2000 against the detroit lions. this season has been improbable. the redskins are the first team since the jacksonville jaguars in 1996 to start the season 3-6 and go to the playoffs. as for head coach mike shanahan, this is his first playoff berth since 2005. before this, he had only won 11 games in two seasons for the washington redskins.

on capitol hill. the house passed the senate's measure last night to avoid the fiscal cliff. it avoids tax increases for about 90% of americans and extend unemployment benefits. many on capitol are not happy with the deal, some say it does not go far enough to solve the problem. >> justin bieber just released a statement about an incident last night or a photographer was hit and killed trying to take a picture of his car. he said he was not in the car. he went on to say that the hopes this tragedy will inspire legislation to protect the safety of celebrities, innocent bystanders and the photographers themselves. >> fedex field is dark and quiet this morning but in four days, this place will be rocking. the 10-6 washington redskins
