canaveral last night. the rocket is carrying two commercial satellites in to orbit. those are some of our top stories on monday, march 2nd. >> announcer: from abc news this is "world news now." well good monday morning to you. we begin with another one-two punch for the northeast. old man winter back again. >> sure is. just as one storm marches across the northeast, another is lining up in formation behind it. it is pushing snow-weary boston at 8 1/2 feet of snow for the winter close to breaking the all-time snowiest winter. >> it is causing major travel problems across the nation. >> reporter: from the south to the midwest and the northeast the winter that won't quit dumping more snow ice and freezing rain making roads perilous. look at this monumental pileup in no missouri. a greyhound bus packed with 55

people rear ended a tractor-trailer. 40 people taken to the hospital. >> i remember being catapulted straight to the floor. i landed on my back. i'm holding on to dear life praying the bus will not flip. >> reporter: two people traveling in this mangled suv died after the driver lost control on an icy overpass plunging in to this creek in ft. worth, texas. in oklahoma this jeep taking an off-road tum able the top of it ripped off. icy roads in pennsylvania causing this car to slam in to a delivery truck. in new jersey the coast guard and state police searching for a pickup truck that fell through the ice. the driver and passengers made it out alive, but now face criminal charges. the snow is expected to keep pummelening the already battered northeast, bringing those dangerous road conditions here. linzie janis, abc news new york. >> thank you. more freezing rain is expected in north texas today.

further complicating the misery for travelers, many of whom have been stranded at dallas-ft. worth international for days over the weekend. more than 1500 flights were cancelled in and out of dfw. some 5,000 stranded passengers were forced to spend the night at the airport on friday. now here's a look at today's weather. drier, milder today with a lot of melting for the northeast. more rain and freezing rain for parts of texas and much of the south. a wide band of wintry band of mix and rain stretches from mexico to canada. temperatures will be a bit warmer but seasonably cold for the northeast and great lakes regions. 30s across the midwest. 40s and 50s across the south. 47 new orleans and 82 in miami. in phoenix, the weather was apparently quite nice for exploring caves but didn't turn out so nice for a woman who got herself stuck on the south side of the papago boots. rescuers say she was trapped in

a position with 150 foot vertical drop below her. in the the woman this her 20s a called for help when she started to slip. it took firefighters 16 hours to get her to safety. an explosive justice department report on the ferguson missouri police department could be released as soon as this week. the report is expected to accuse the department of making discriminatory traffic stops of african-americans that created years of racial animosity. it concludes that animosity led to the police shooting of make michael brown. but the police officer involved darin wilson is not expected to be charged. tens of thousands of people took to the streets of moscow to honor an opposition politician gunned down in the shadow of the kremlin. a great deal of speculation this morning about who was behind the brutal killing. abc's llama hassen has the story. >> reporter: they were marching peacefully through the heart of moscow. op silgs supporters due to lead

join isis. turkish media showing video that shows the girls boarding a bus for syria. the girls just 15 and 16 years old were last seen at a london airport before taking a flight to istanbul. security can officials estimate so far 50 british women have gone to join the extremists. on capitol hill a showdown is looming over funding the department of homeland security. a partial shutdown of the department is possible at the end of this week. a small group of house republicans is linking those funds to a roll back of president obama's unilateral moves on immigration. today the senate is set to vote on a so-called clean bill that will fund dhs with no strings attached. the texas nurse who came down with ebola is suing the hospital where she got sick. nina pham blames the hospital for not training the nurses properly and invading her privacy by publicly identifying her.

the official events marking the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march in selma, alabama get started on thursday. that didn't stop 1,000 people from holding a march of their own. they walked in to selma across the bridge in the opposite direction of the march. in 1965 organizers say that was to recognize progress made since the civil rights era. bill deblasio braved the snow to take part in the saint pats for all parade an also a group from the willing bt community. organizers of this st. patrick's day parade excluded gay groups for they say one gay con tin jint will be allowed to march under its own banner this year. it is exactly 50 years ago today when the world was first introduced to the endearing

extremists. russian president vladimir putin is personally supervising the investigation. nearly a year after the disappearance of malaysia flight 370 a new system designed to better track airplanes is being tested. air space managers from us a central ya, indonesia and malaysia are leading the test. it enables planes to be tracked more frequently than before which makes it easier to find them in the event that something goes wrong. >> the new minimum tracking interval for remote oceanic areas will be 15 minutes. this improves on the previous tracking rate of 30 to 40 minutes. >> reporter: malaysia airlines flight 370 veered off course last march before crashing in a remote part of the indian ocean. the search of the area is ongoing but nothing has been found. prince william has started an hiss tore tick four-day trip to mainland china. he visited a museum of chinese houses and is meeting with china's president today in

beijing. william travels to shanghai. his visit to china is the first by a british royal since his grandmother, the queen was there in 1986. hillary clinton could be weeks from an announce about her future. the "wall street journal" reporting she will likely announce her run for the white house next month. advisers had suggested she wait until the summer. she apparently wants to get a jump start on flzing. the texas next nurse who came down with ebola is suing the hospital where she became sick. a lawsuit is filed today alleges the texas health presbyterian hospital and parent company did not provide proper training for nina pham and her colleagues. pham became ill while caring for an ebola patient who died. >> we believe she can be a voice for other nurses so that something like this never happens to another nurse in the united states of america. >> reporter: in response the hospital says it remain s confident that constructive dialogue can resolve the issue. international space station

is readied for the next phase of space travel. two american astronauts completed their third space walk in just over a week rigging up new parking spots for space taxis. since nasa retired the shuttle's fleet, u.s. scientists have had to book rides on russian spacecraft. the boeing and spacex are building commercial vehicles that will begin flight in 2017. we have a perfect get away for spacex and rockets lifting off from cape canaveral florida. the company was carrying two commercial satellites in to orbit. after a schism launch last month, spacex tried to land the rocket on a barge so it could be reused but the experiment failed. last night's rocket lands back in the ocean it won't likely be recovered. a thrift score shopper scored a piece of history for 40 bucks. dr. julie win hwang of toronto said she thought the blue suit was just a replica of one that belonged to canadian astronaut

well, there's a major mystery unfolding in san francisco. police are on the hunt for someone who swiped recipes from a popular bakery. >> whoa. cue the mystery machine. now the search is on for what's being called the great cruffin caper. if you don't know what a cruffin is yet abc's cecilia vega is about to enlighten you. >> reporter: a dash of that and that does a cruffin make. >> tastes like a sugary croissant.

>> reporter: doughy goodness. that's what it is. so good people line up outside the bake house to get their hands on one of these things and now a case of sticky fingers. early friday morning, a bakery worker noticed the recipe binders were empty, no equipment missing, no money taken, no doors ajar, just hundreds of recipes gone. the secrets to the cruffin swiped. >> someone got greedy wanted something more than what was theirs and they came in. >> there is a surveillance camera but wasn't turned on that day. an inside cruffin job perhaps, a cruffin caper. >> they are trademarked cruffin. we have to be careful about people reselling it on the streets maybe. >> reporter: police following the crumbs. cruffin fans, yes, there are many, i donut believe this. much to do about nothing. >> it maybe a rabid fan who wants to make it for themselves.
