for the beleaguered u.s. post office. they reported a $5 billion loss. they have been paying millions of dollars per year to lease property from dead people.

chris papst has this report. it means everything. when people hear about these ridiculous things, they say, there is the post office again. the taxpayer protection alliance is talking about this report just released by the inspector general of the u.s. post office. it found they have been paying more than $5 million per year to lease 338 spaces from dead people, with the average leas or being dead nearly 10 years. this putstor said them at greater risk of fraud. >> this is a microcosm of what's happening. they are not doing oversight on their leases. would else are they not doing oversight on? when a lease or dies, a family member or a company takes over the contract, but the post office has not been updating its books. the problem could easily be

solved by working with social security administration. but the post office refuses to report, pointing out the 338 leases account for only 1.4% of its properties. it says it does not "have the resources to devote to checking the life-and-death status of 23,000 leases, and it would be no discernible benefit to the post office." the inspector general said they should change the system so it does not happen again because it damages the brand. the inspector general disagreed. chris papst, abc 7 news. kimberly: amtrak will all ow small pets on trains. passengers will be up to bring a small cat or dog and a carrier on trips that are seven hours or shorter. advance reservations are
