washington yesterday morning. the queen anne's county sheriff's deputy shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call is recovering from his injuries. deputy warren scott hogan was escorting a woman into a house on edmore road in chestertown to get some of her belongings when the homeowner, james rich, shot hogan in the stomach with a shotgun. hogan was able to fire back - killing rich. deputy hogan is said to be in good spirits. it could take weeks or even months for him to fully recover from his injuries. a man who allegedly attacked and tried to sexually assault a hotel employee is expected in d.c. superior court

18-year-old ernesto agustin mendoza was arrested monday. police say on november 26th, the victim was working at d.c.'s grand hyatt hotel. she was in room 11-46 when a man entered the room. she fought back, but police say he hurt her badly, even ripping some of her hair out before he fled. the suspect was captured on surveillance video. police tracked him for weeks by tracing his metro smartrip card. they didn't know his identity until he was arrested this week at the landover station. right now.. police are urging you to take a good look at this surveillance video. investigators think the s-u-v in this video struck and killed jacqueline cole on monday. cole -- who was deaf -- was in the crosswalk trying to cross 14-th street in columbia heights. if that s-u-v looks familiar -- police want to hear from you. and we have new information this morning about the mother hit by a car tuesday afternoon outside her home in aspen hill. lisseth ortiz was ta

car when she was hit. the baby was in a car seat and - incredibly - was not hurt. ortiz, however, lost her left leg in the crash... and shattered several bones in her right leg. she told family members she only has hazy memories of what happened. witnesses say that car was driving erratically--- so far, no one has been charged. family members tell us ortiz will be in the i-c-u for another week at least.. and will need multiple surgeries on her right leg. little sophia is back home with relatives. it's 5 and next on good morning washington.. new years eve in new york city--expected to be jammed packed with people waiting for the ball to drop.. but this year the city will see some new security tactics.. what new york officis are doing different this year.. and a dose of wild weather sweeps across the south.. more on the twister that caused massive

massachusetts. heavy snow and rain are blamed for several accidents in the northern and western parts of the state overnight. no one was seriously injured - but several cars had to be towed off the snowy roads. the same system has produced snow totals of a half foot or more in seven states.

weather.. check out this scene in jefferson, georgia where an e-f-one tornado touched down early thursday morning. winds up to 105 miles an hour damaged homes and blew down trees and power lines. one tree was completely uprooted--landing on a home and truck. the tornado cut a path more than three miles long. fortunately there haven't been any reported injuries. right now.. police in new york city are getting ready for the big new year's eve celebration at times square. there will be unprecedented security this year. for the first time, dozens of sanitation trucks filled with sand will be deployed. that's in response to the berlin and nice truck attacks. seven-thousand extra police officers will be on duty.. from special ops units to rooftop surveillance teams. inside the command center, teams will monitor more than

dress she paid for. ladies out there know its a once in a lifetime experience shopping for your own wedding gown..but many brides who found their dream dress at cameo bridal say its been more of a nightmare. one woman says she loved a dress so much she paid half of it on the spot--thats 600 bucks. then she says the bridal shop gave her the run around, telling her it was being ordered from spain...turns out--it was actually in california and the company that owns the dress was waiting for cameo bridal to pay for it. the couple took to facebook and other cameo customers reported similar frustrations. the shop responded saying please check the details before assuming and posting anything more. the woman's fiance replied, give me my 13-hundred dollars back! it's 5: and time for a check on weather.
