reports that a man matching the description of suspected facebook killer steve stephens tried to check in to the fairfax hotel on massachusetts avenue using cash. a number of officers and investigators arrived on the scene - and put out an alert - but just a short time ago told a sergeant with mpd told abc-7 that the man was "not" stephens after all. police say the man tried to check in around 11pm last night - officers arrived on the scene around one this morning and cleared the scene around 3. stephens is accused of killing a 74 year old cleveland man live on facebook - and then claimed to have killed 13 people. a nationwide manhunt is underway - there are reports that his cell phone was last "pinged" near erie pennsylvania. a vigil was held last night in cleveland

to remember that victim 74-year-old robert godwin. dozens gathered at the spot where he was gunned down sunday. godwin had been out collecting cans after easter dinner with his family. police say his murder appears to be a random act of cold-blooded violence. godwin leaves behind two young sons. they say they loved fishing and spending time with their father. the family is urging the suspect to turn himself in. we are monitoring any new developments in this story very closely. be the first to know the second any news breaks. just sign up for text alerts at wjla dot-com, slash text. developing now.. a team from fort rucker, alabama will be at the scene of a military chopper crash in leonardtown, maryland today. investigators from the army combat readiness center will try to find out what caused the crash in st. mary's county.

when the black hawk helicopter crashed onto the breton bay golf course. two others were pulled from the wreckage and flown to a hospital. one was in serious condition.. the other critical. several witnesses saw the crash. the black hawk was based at fort belvoir's 12th aviation battalion. the crash happened during a routine training exercise. we'll have a live report from our john gonzalez on the scene coming up later in the hour. new this morning.. vice president mike pence is in japan for the second stop of a 10-day tour in asia. his plane touched down just a few hours ago at the u-s military base outside tokyo. while north korea's nuclear and missile development dominated the agenda in south korea.. the focus of his trip is expected to shift to trade here in japan. meanwhile - an escalating war of words with north korea after the vice president's visit to the korean penninsula. president trump says the country needs to --

5:xx - a bus plunging into a ravine, leaving dozens dead. jummy olabanji is at the live desk.. jummy? this morning at least 24 people are dead after a bus lost its breaks and plunged into a deep ravine. it happened in a northern phillippine mountain town - and it being called one of the country's deadliest vehicle accidents in years. rescuers plucked 45 survivors from the bus using ropes. many of the survivors have serious injuries. we will continue to update this story as we get new information. happening now - another highway headache for drivers in atlanta. crews pulling an all nighter to repair a major interstate after this happened. the pavement suddenly c

black hawk helicopter- which is known as very dependable. about 4-thousand black hawks... have been built since 1979. since 1983: at least 60 soldiers have been killed in crashes... in non-combat missions. the worst-- was in kentucky in 1998. two of them collided, killing 17 soldiers. in 2005, 11 soldiers died... when their helicopter went down in florida. again- it's far too soon... to know the cause of what happened today. happening now - the multistate manhunt for the facebook killer enters its

hyattsville city council approved an ordiance to become a sanctuary city. that means the city - including police - would not give information about immigration status to the federal government. still - the rule has it's critics. the city of hyattsville now stands to lose up to 20-thousand dollars a year in federal grant money. president trump is headed to kenosha, wisconsin today to sign a new executive order. the so-called "buy american, hire american" executive order will overhaul the h-1b visa program, which allows u-s companies to hire foreign wokers for specific high-skilled jobs. the "buy american" part of the order
