in efforts to find fashion fight crime the chief may day requested the security of the government center. cmpd is asking for 125 additional sworn officers more technology for dispatchers as well as another police station. the chief says charlotte has experienced an increase in crime crime. in 2015 the crime rate went up by 10% when compared to 2014. he says more officers means better protection for the community. >> we have to catch up there so the important thing is whatever the allocation is we get support. the chief says they're hoping to have funding for new police station by the month of july. then they would have to figure out which area would benefit from a bigger police presence. a developing story tonight as fatal deputy involved shooting has the sbi investigating the

both lending road in anson county. deputies kyle beaman justin moordener the ones who fired the shot that killed dennis penny. at some point the three of them got into some kind of an altercation and gunfire was exchanged and ultimately killed kenny. reports say penny might have been assaulting his girlfriend. two guns up and recovered them are currently being examined. the investigation is officially launched. we have an update as a man has been charged with a deadly shooting yesterday afternoon. 19-year-old du jour smith was booked this morning on a long list of charges including aggravated assault with intent to kill. police responded to call just after 3:30 yesterday afternoon in the 100 block of south brevard street. when they arrived one man was left lying in the street to several gunshot wins. that was sparked by some kind of disagreement. police say this was not a random act and police tell us this

a story that's hard to believe a mother keeping her children out of school for more than three years. these children are 1315 and 16 years old here's a mugshot of the mother, 36-year-old jennifer elam. i got off the phone with a a school digit may tell me back in 2012 elam filled out the paperwork to pull their children out of school. she was supposed to take them to a charter school have them homeschooled something besides% gaston county public schools but the only problem that never happen. i went to the neighborhood trying to get answers from neighbors that they have seen anything out of the ordinary. they tell me they have seen kids playing in the front of backyard for a while but the problem the family has only lived in the neighborhood for the past three months and not a lot of time for them to get a good idea of what's been going on and they have a lot of questions. >> i was very surprised. my kids have played with their

temperature bill: a chaotic scene when a car smashes into the center of emergency room. it happened early this morning in greenville. police say 59-year-old william spillman was honestly the hospital when he lost control of his car. 20 people were inside when the wreck happened, three of them got hurt. witnesses say the driver was going about 50 miles an hour in the crash happened. police are investigating a road rage incident that happened during rush hour on i 85 north tuesday night that according to cmpd a 24 you will make claim somebody pointed a gun at her while she was driving during a road rage incident. happened at 5:30 p.m. and police are treating it as an aggravated assault case. no shots were fired and police tell us so far no arrests have been made.

getting much-needed funding tonight. the charlotte regional transportation planning organization has approved five different studies that will hopefully change traffic flow for the better. and cornelius old statesville road will be updated aligning faith church road and -- two more projects in moorseville have got the greenlight to do a look at the intersection of u.s. 21 and n. c. 115 and they will be realigning it. that's just and we now know what caused the massive fire in an uptown gas station. take a look at those flames. this was an up-tempo charlotte fire officials tell us was an electrical issue that caused the flames at the circle k.. it started in the area between the roof and the station stops in which caused the flames shoot up higher. it took more than 50 firefighters to put those flames out and it's more than $800,000 in damage that was done.
