far, jamie, back to you. all new here this morning: three people are dead after a deadly crash overnight in prince georges county involving an ambulance. the crash happened around midnight on marlboro pike. the suv slams into an ambulance and ripped it in half. the ambulance had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision. the suv then side swiped the ambulance and then hit a brick wall and a utility pole. the crash killed all three men inside the suv. another medic showed up, took two medics injured in the crash to the hospital. democracy 2010 right now: later today the city board of elections will begin counting nearly 2,000 absentee ballots and that could decide the race for baltimore city state's attorney. late last night, the incumbent for pat jessamy says after that

count takes place, the battle could be far from point. >> reporter: a spokesmen is concerned about the integrity of the results. an attorney has heard reports of polls opening late, voting equipment malfunctioning and other problems. right now gregg bernstein holds a narrow lead over jessamy with about 1300 votes. both are waiting for absentee ballots to be counted. a city election official says there are about 2100 ballots and provisional ballots that still need to be counted. >> this is just not fair to the county, it's not fair to the voters and it's not fair to the process. the last thing we need to do is take the integrity out of the political process, the process of voting, that is, by having

something like this occur. >> officials will begin counting those absentee ballots at the city board of elections, starting at 10:00 this morning. we're live in downtown baltimore, linda sow, abc2 news. after a nasty expensive campaign, kevin kamenetz is declaring victory for baltimore county executive. joe bartenfelder waited out a slow drip of results overnight. kamenetz says after such a bitter campaign, he's going to reach out to bartenfelder to help heel the division in the party. >> look, there's a, it's the same message i gave to my kids. there's a winner and loser in every ball game and it's not a refraction on either team. someone has to win, someone has to lose, but everyone gave it their strongest effort. at the end of the game you shake hands, say good game, and move

forward. my hand is out and extended to joe and when we meet-- >> kamenetz will face republican ken holt coming up in the general election in november. an abc2 news exclusive now: what may have seemed like an everyday crime story has far from an everyday twist. police are still searching for a suspect after a liquor story robbery led to gunfire. sherrie johnson joins us here in the studio with this story. >> reporter: witnesses say it all happened so fast. this morning, the soccer coach is being hailed a hero. around 3:00, a security officer fired at two men trying to rob a liquor store at a shopping center. across the street, the mercy high school girls soccer team was practicing for a game. shots rang out, the coaches of the team and a police officer

tackled one of the robbery suspects. >> we were all getting ready for our game. we heard the first gunshot. we didn't really know what it was. we were all just like "oh it's no big deal." then there were three more. we were looking around not knowing how serious it was. >> got the kids up to the school. and secured the area. >> reporter: the suspects ran away from the scene. one suspect was caught and arrested. police are still searching for the second suspect. four minutes after 5:00 right now: an anne arundel county mother says she's desperate. two years ago her son was murdered. police still have no suspects in this crime, now she's asking for your help. rudolf went to open the curtain when someone knocked on the

window. he was shot. >> i said i can't leave right now. i said "i need to stay here to make sure he's okay." i promised him that i would never leave him. now i gotta leave. >> the anne arundel county cold case unit is searching for anyone with information in rudolf's murder. if you have information call the number on your screen. one stevenson university student is in stable condition at a university hospital. according to a statement issued by the school, other students who have been exposed have been identified. bacterial meningitis is contagious and could be a potentially deadly infection. let's look at the orioles. when toronto came to town this week, the orioles had yet to beat them once. all year long. last night, the orioles went for a sweep. let's go to the top of the 7th

ourselves out. just kicking some cables out of the way, forgive me. sometimes i get a warning that we're coming back on. hurricane julia has weakened just a little bit overnight. we'll watch this thing in the open waters of the atlantic. yesterday, only the second time in the last hundred years that we had two category four storms at the same time in the atlantic. two major hurricanes still out there. about 135 mile-per-hour winds. still expected to roll in towards bermuda this weekend. going to weaken a little bit. as it spreads out, high surf expected along the eastern seaboard. just in the form of waves, not weather from this system. we're still going our way back towards the caribbean. we have ourselves a look at tropical storm karl. looks very impressive. karl itself, now back over the water from the bay of campeche. winds up to 50 miles per hour. the forecast track for karl and expectation now, it strengthens back to a hurricane when it

makes landfall on the mainland of mexico. early part of saturday morning. this is similar to what happened with the early season storm alex crossing campeche and actually hit a little further north. problems here across the central and northern uh, caribbean coast or bay, gulf of mexico coastline that is. of mexico. other-wise, we're watching closer to home. we have 64 degrees this morning. we have ourselves a mostly cloudy sky. that kept our temperatures from slipping into the 50s again, little more mild this morning. we'll have less sunshine to deal with. clouds abundant. showers back in ohio. more showers back beyond that and the complex system spreading in our direction will ignite more showers and thunderstorms into the afternoon. you'll see this line fill back in, towards the afternoon and evening hours. as far as we're concerned, we'll bring it back home. forecast model shows scattered showers that pop up later today. main line of rain back into the
