winter mix mailed for a tricky morning commute across tri-state area. we have team coverage tracking the fallout and what else in store this week. police are looking for a suspect for unusual series of thefts from cars around the northeast. a change is coming from the university of delaware where the university president is heading after the school year wraps up. >> now the details on the mess mother nature left on the roads. the action cam was in the west philadelphia overnight. some roads the mix turned into slush and other places it turned into ice. after the sun came up, the roads began to clear again mobile 6 was driving through center city earlier this morning, you can see some of the mix was gone from broad street all clear here. we have live team coverage tracking the messy mix and what's ahead. meteorologist karen rogers has the latest from accuweather but we begin with chad perdelli in lower merion with the delays for

students this morning. chad. >> reporter: lower merion high school started two hours late. that was the norm in the area. this sidewalk is in good shape it's wet but cleared by the homeowner. you go down here, that sidewalk was not, it was much worlds earlier this morning. it is beginning to melt, this morning it was a big mess out here. the sounds of breaking ice echoed through the streets this morning. sidewalks had to be cleared cars cleaned after mother nature's a moos -- most recent ice storm. >> i've been out here for an hour now. >> we have a ton of ice on the being on the corner. >> you need a good strong shovel it's a landscaper shovel fog edging.

>> reporter: many schools opened late today if at all by 9:00 a.m., most of the main roads were in good shape but some of the side roads remain slick in spots. sidewalks, however were another matter. many had more than an inch of ice, late this morning forcing some students to walk on the roads in dangerous conditions. >> feeling nervous navigating the street. >> i'm a senior, i've been doing this for four years. >> the sun is coming out and it's turning out to be a decent day. live in lower merion, chad perdelli channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. the ice made for dangerous road conditions yesterday afternoon well into the overnight hours. 8 people were hurt in a crash in springfield township, burlington county. multiple people were trapped inside their cars when medics arrived on the scenes. the roads were so icy medical

secondary roads and gingerly walking to your cars this morning. now always chad said things are nicer. 40 degrees in millville. 36 in wilmington. 38 in philadelphia. we are getting lots of melting going on. we're a bit colder in the lehigh valley. 34 in allentown, 3 # in reading. 26 in poconos. we're dry through the area, but the winds have picked up. 29 miller -- mile an hour wind. i'm feeling it. 33 in the poconos. clocked a gust 29 in trenton and beach haven. hopefully that will dry out the roads before the next batch of precipitation comes. this is future tracker 64:30 p.m. we have snow that arrives in the region and changes to ice before changing over to rain, so a lot of to deal with, with the commute. the temperatures will rise overnight into wednesday so wednesday morning will be wet.

central park we got 4 1/2 inches of snow, but other areas got twice as much. a miserable start for march for drivers from kansas to new england. >> the roads are terrible. >> reporter: inasmuch as tone inches of snow -- ten inches of snow falling in someplaces, and thick layers of ice. >> there's nothing you can do. >> reporter: there were crashes and spinouts. this latest storm caused flight cancellations across the country. the log jam so bad five thousand people had to spend the night is at the airport in dallas. they are saying the same thing in massachusetts where they got more snow. the weight collapsing roofs including only the stables. rescuers working to save the horses inside.

in boston, a fresh coating on top of the 8 1/2 feet of snow that has already fallen bringing the city a few inches away from the all time record. >> it's going to be difficult for the next month. >> reporter: they could break that record with another winter storm in the forecast for tomorrow. in new york, marcy gonzalez, channel 6 "action news." >> investigators for the second time in new jersey are trying to figure out what caused a gas explosion. it happened at 1:30 in point pleasant beach. a 467-year-old man said he woke up to the smell of gas when he turned the lights on his house exploded in flames. he was taken to the hospital with burns on half his body. the cause is unknown. last week a gas explosion injured 15 people about 40 miles away in statfolder township. police in philadelphia are

investigating a robbing and stabbing at a gold shop in the mayfair section. chopper 6 was over the scene. someone walked into the store and stabbed the other than in the face and took off with a thousand dollars in cash. officers think they know who the suspect is, no word on the victim's condition. >> philadelphia police are looking for at least one suspect after air bags were stolen out of several cars. police were alerted to the theft yesterday morning, 9 vehicles were broken into across northeast philadelphia. all mferld by lone at that -- manufactured by honda. most were made after 201 except one car that was made in 2011. a man is in custody in new jersey for the double murder in northeast maryland. police say 25-year-old fled across state lines after he strangled two people in their 70s. he stole cash a car and several

mohammed emwazi was a timid boy. one teacher sailtd he was put -- said he was put into anger management therapy. a fight on facebook sparked a deadly shooting in birmingham alabama. police say teenage girls were involved in an online dispute that started three weeks ago. they agreed to meet up at a park and the boyfriend of one of the girls fired a gun. 14-year-old girl was killed and another injured. police took the boys into custody. cindy crawford was hailed after celebrating her body after an unaltered photo was put on social media. >> it's the photo that went viral for allegedly showing the real cindy craw -- crawford.

in millville, 28 in trenton. 25 in allentown and reading. we have that sheet of ice covered our cars and driveways ascertain sidewalks. evenly though temperature didn't get that far below freezing, most areas at the freezing mark. now we've got the sunshine mixing with the clouds and high temperature of 38 degrees, a lot of melting going on out there. the dewpoint is nice and low. not as much moisture in the at. the winds out of the west, necht at 17 -- northwest at 17. it's windy out there. hopeful live that will dry out the roads so you won't have as much ice with the refreeze. we're seeing more breaks in the clowrldz that's allowing the -- clouds that's allowing the sunshine to fill in. we're dry with clouds and sunshine. for the evening commute you get the night off you don't have any issues weather related for the evening commute. clouds and sunshine, windy
