sheets. let's go over to david murphy with accuweather and karen rogers has traffic. >> reporter: we made that switch a month ago. this winter weather advisory kicks in at 10:00 p.m. tonight. snow is coming tonight after midnight. the national weather service place it cautiously and posts this ahead of the game. we have warm air coming up from the south that will change the snow to rain a little bit of sleet and freezing rain in the transitional period. this could happen early in the morning even through dawn in south jersey and delaware, i think until 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. you'll see improvement in the i-95 corridor. allentown you'll have to wait until midday or the afternoon. things will improve. as we look at satellite you can

disabled vehicles, looking at route 1, no issues, just a touch of volume. in south a hampton county we have icy conditions because of a fire ridge road at pemberton road in burlington county. word of an accident on i-95 southbound at engle street involving an overturned vehicle. be careful if you're in that area in chester county. on the blue route you're moving okay, on the schuylkill expressway seeing speeds in the 50s. fire department activity on millic street that's near wharton. watch for that, that's affecting the 34 trolley in that area. it's shuttle busing. the live on the ben franklin bridge, the area bridges are clear no problems or delays. >> we'll go back to the fire scene it is our breaking news, it was an early-morning fire that left a person dead in southwest philadelphia. the action cam is at the scene right now as firefighters remain

there trying to make sure all the flames are out. now, the information that someone died is coming from police. the fire broke out a few hours ago at this home 100 block of millic street 4:00 a.m. spread to a neighboring home. firefighters told us they were able to pull someone out, 49-year-old man with burns on 60% of his body. it is unclear if that is the person who died at the fire scene. a traffic stop in feltonville led to shots fired at police and led to the arrest of three men. the suspects, 17, 18, 19 used a gun to rob someone along the boulevard at 1:30 a.m. the victim provided police with the description of the suspect's vehicle, when officers spotted the vehicle there was a brief pursuit. >> officers went into the alley to chase these three suspects on foot. one of the systems fired a shot -- one of the suspects

fired a shot at the police. all police officers were in full uniform in a mark car. there was no mistaking who they were. one suspected fired at police, police showed restraint and did not return fire. >> police found a loaded gun and one spent shell casing. they face armed robbery and aggravated assault against a police officer. >> we have more breaking news, an overnight cruiser crash sent two philadelphia police officers to the hospital. action cam was on the scene at the intersection of broad and snyder avenue. no word on what caused the two car collision. police say one officer hurt his head. the other one suffered a leg injury. the two occupants of the other car are being treated for minor injuries. >> drivers from the great lakes to upstate new york saw whiteout conditions on the roads while we experience extreme cold. in the pacific northwest, a rare

snowstorm parallel -- paralyzed portland oregon. many abandoned their cars rather than risk driving. several fire crews in the tri-state area had a tough fight fighting fires. firefighters had to battle the elements in bordentown popular avenue. the fire started at 8:00 p.m., at last check are -- firefighters are still out there extinguishing hot spots. a fire destroyed a home in berks county and sent a woman to the hospital with serious burns. the fire broke out in the 100 block of killian drive. the entire home became engulfed in flames. at one point firefighters were

ordered to evacuate the charred home for fear it was going to collapse. what sparked the fire is still under investigation. 5:37 now, temple university students are a alert -- are on alert following the second home invasion in a month. four temple students were asleep at the time, one woke up and saw the intruder wearing a ski mask. the man ran off as students called temple police. officials are trying to figure out if it is the same man who pulled off a heist about a month ago. white house officials are confirming it does appear that russia has interfered with our presidential election and implied putin himself was behind authorizing and directing it. moscow is denying the accusations. white house said trump knew

we usually get a high around 3:00 p.m. we'll keep climbing tonight 26 degrees by 6:00 p.m. probably about 9:00, we'll be up to 28 degrees. it's a slow climb winds dieing down, it's cold and uncomfortable today. 26 is the high in allentown. 27 in trenton. the highs striking later tonight. 30 in millville and 32 in cape may. as for snow we're expecting tonight. the winter weather advisory is kicking in at 1:20 p.m. model is -- 10:00 p.m. the model is indicating it will start after midnight. most of the initial snow will be placed in the northern suburbs, i will allow for it to be closer to philadelphia around 2:30 a.m. by 4:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m. in the morning you're looking at snow filling in in philadelphia, as well. it won't be as much as in the northern suburbs and down south

you're liable to see basically nothing. it's all rain down here. this is 6:00 a.m. on saturday, the blue line pushes to the north. there will be a transitional period where you will see sleet and freezing rain. even after you change over to rain if you have freeze up on the roads it may linger a little bit before it changes over. in terms of the changeover by 8:30, we expect it to happen in philadelphia, maybe get beyond that before you get out there motoring. in the lehigh valley, probably later in the morning around midday, and then looks like we get drier in the afternoon. what are we expecting on the ground, not a lot in philadelphia. coating to an inch that gets washed away. 1 to 3 in allentown. the timing up in the lehigh valley you probably got to wait until mid morning until midday before you get the rain changeover maybe linking ice in spots. after that, early in the morning, though in the i-95 corridor around, you'll see the

that's the rothman ice rink at dilworth park. it opens at noon, you think anyone is going to skate there today? i'm not trying to tell people not, it is cold. it is the kind of weather made for ice skating with lots of layers. that's a beautiful scene, karen rogers unfortunately on i-95 has not such a pretty picture. >> reporter: there's a rothman cabin where they serve hot chocolate. that's the place to be in the cabin. this is i-95 southbound near the commodor barry bridge, we have an accident involving an overturned vehicle past 320 in chester county. as we look at i-95 you can see from the shot traffic is stopped heading southbound currently blocking all lanes. chopper 6 hd heading to the scene right now. problem on i-95 heading southbound towards delaware if you're near the commodor barry bridge, traffic is jammed in the area. we have speeds showing 12 miles

per hour at best. it completes will he stops because of the accident. watch for this accident, i-95 southbound past 320 if you're heading past the blue route you're going to be dealing with the accident scene. here fire locations we've been talking about a couple of them, this one southampton and burlington county, ridge road, you want to watch for crews on the scene right there. i know they need tweeting about it with the fire crews, brace road is your alternate. you'll find slippery conditions where they have the hoses trained. it's so cold out there. 42 northbound traffic moving just fine. it's dry out there, we have boulevard bill talking about a vehicle stopped on the road 422 westbound near reading. 1 degrees in quakertown and kennett square. not the windchill, the temperature, 16 degrees in center city. it feels like 3 in most areas. but it's shin hammonton, 16 -- it's 14 in hammonton. 16 in smyrna.

a little better this afternoon. >> this story is developing, hours after a gunman shot a washington state police officer in the head. that officer is in critical condition. mount vernon police say the shooter is barricaded inside a home with several hostages. sprs were called to the -- officers were called to the home with a report of a shooting. officers got to the home and was shot. >> a trio of grinches were caught on camera stealing christmas decorations on the front lawn. a woman was inside when she spotted the woman putting decorations in her truck. police arrested three and they found drugs on the woman. >> 5:47. there's much more to come on "action news" this morning. >> teachers who were picketing

chester who face danger on the job are fighting bedbugs. the chester mayor said both of the city's fire stations have active bedbugs in the sleeping quarters. the issues came to light when several firefighters reported being bitten while on the bed. a pest control company is on the case developing a treatment

plan. today many will say goodbye to john glenn while he lies in state in ohio. it is start today at noon in columbus ohio. he will be honored in a memorial service at ohio state university. the 95-year-old marine and astronaut and statesman died last week. he is the 9th person to lie in state at the ohio state house, he is an incredible person. i posted a piece on my facebook page about his relationship with his wife. she had a serious speaking disability and the way he was there for her, you will fall in love with him all over again. >> we'll have more on our breaking news story, a fatal fire in southwest philadelphia. while there's concern over the use of headphones and ear buds for kids, it's quite the opposite when it comes to the hearing of adults.
