about 28. but by 10:00 a.m. we're already in the mid 30's feeling a little better with sunshine and clouds. by 1 o'clock, 42 degrees. no problem running some errands or going out this afternoon at 4 o'clock it's 41. coming down from your high of 45. at 7 o'clock, it's 37, so yesterday's high was just 34 so we're more than 10 degrees above yesterday's high. wait until you see where numbers go from here. details in that seven day in just a few minutes matt. >> up works for me. good morning karen. speeds going down, down, down along 95 as you come down in the southbound lanes, at least, though, our police activity here southbound just past academy has cleared. now it's just the work zone and the normal morning volume that we're contending with in the southbound lanes between academy and cottman but i have been hearing rumblings that we should get a fourth lane opened in each direction here along 95 at cottman later on this week so we'll see if it happens. if it does that would be great news for us. overnight construction that was happening on the vine street expressway has cleared out.

everything is opened here. no big delays yet. crews do return tonight around 11 o'clock to close it down once again. and columbus boulevard southbound is not closed this morning. there is one lane opened, the ramps off 95 are opened but it's just one lane so you may see some delays but at least it's not closed like yesterday afternoon. in springfield township, if you're headed to lasalle college high school this morning watch out for a crash along cheltenham avenue at patton road and icy conditions persist along stenton avenue at white marc whitemarsh avenue. in souderton wreck along broad street. cleaning up a fuel spill in cherry hill township southbound side of 295 approaching woodcrest station but everything is off to the side so you're not seeing a big delay at this point. in delaware we had some ramp closures overnight. the ramps from jackson street and second to 95 southbound still blocked until 7:00 this morning and then again tonight at 7 o'clock the ramp from 141 southbound to 295 northbound

will close. that's again overnight tonight. matt and tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. and this is breaking on "action news." police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man in southwest philadelphia. gun shots erupted on the 600 block of almond street just after 1:00 this morning. police discovered the 49-year-old unidentified man with multiple gunshot wound his chest. they rushed him to presbyterian hospital. doctors pronounced him dead a short time placement investigators are still working to nail down a motive. manhunt for a murder suspect goes into day three in cumberland county. new jersey state troopers found 32-year-old jeremiah monell's blue chevy pickup truck yesterday afternoon. investigators believe monell killed his wife tara o'shea. o'shea's body was found in her home monday morning. police say the couple was estranged after o'shea survived years of abuse from monell. if you think you know where he may be you are asked to call police. >> isis has claimed responsibility for the truck attack in berlin that killed

12 people. the man who was behind the wheel is still on the run. german authorities believe monday's rampage comes right out of isis's playbook. the vehicle plowed into a big crowd of joyous shoppers at one of the german capitol's famed christmas markets. there was a massive manhunt for the driver right now. police had taken a man into custody on the day of the attack but released him for lack of evidence. >> ♪ >> it is 6:05 and new on "action news" penn state has asked a judge to order its former president to pay up. the university is countersuing graham spanier. they say he violated a employment contract and it wants to claw back the millions it paid him over the past five years. university officials say spanier violated contracts by not disclosing what he knew about jerry sandusky. sandusky a former assistant football coach was convicted of child molestation charges in 2011. spanier's attorney is calling this a "last ditch effort by penn state to escape liability." >> two of president-elect

donald trump's top cabinet picks have begun providing documents to the committees that that need to approve their nominations. trump tapped rex tillerson for secretary of state. and nominated steven mnuchin a hedge fund manager to lead the treasury department. this pair seems to have the most potential road blocks to confirmation out of all trump nominees. hearings on both nominees are expected in january. >> a pennsylvania based drugstore chain is going through a big selloff of stores in hopes of helping out a possible merger. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square and she has more on what's going on. good morning, maribel. >> reporter: good morning, tam. rite-aid is selling 865 stores to regional drugstore chain freds are for $950 million. the sale would help walgreens and rite-aid move a step closer to getting regulatory approval for their proposed merger. regulators have been worried about competition from that deal. now as for fred's buying the stores would more than double its size. investors like this idea.

they sent fred 's stock up 85 percent yesterday. speaking of stocks stocks rallied as bank shares were strong but the dow fell short of that 20,000 mark. right now futures are pointing to a mixed open. report on existing home sales due out later today. most major u.s. banks are still charging at least $35 for an over draft fee t on top that of many of the big banks will process transactions from largest to smallest to reduce your balance and generate more of the overdrafts all of this is from the report by the pew chart at a trust which studied 50 basement revenue from service charges on deposit accounts has more than doubled in the last three decades. that's the latest in business news from the nasdaq market site. back to you matt. >> thanks maribel. we'll see you tomorrow. a water main break led to the closure of the columbus boulevard in queens village for several hours and efforts to fix it are expected to continue through the morning rush. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at the scene watching those repairs. katherine. >> reporter: matt, the water department was out here yesterday and they're expected

to be back out again today. we're standing on columbus boulevard right near katherine. you can see right now the left lane of traffic is getting by. the right lanes are closed right now. you can see cones are surrounding them but one lane of traffic is getting by this site. however, later on this morning when water department crews are back for repairs, we're expecting all of the southbound lanes will be closed again. from a traffic standpoint so far we're not seeing that much of an impact but as it gets later traffic could build and of course when all the lanes close then no one will be able to get by. this all started way break in a 12-inch water main yesterday around 7:00 a.m. an suv hit a sinkhole partially covered in water and was disabled but no one was injured. the southbound lanes of columbus boulevard between fitzwater and christian streets had to close yesterday as crews worked at the site. the off-ramp from 95 was also closed but this morning so far we have seen cars come off the exit from 95 and again the one lane of traffic is getting by

ross bridge stemmed headed toward the betsy on 95 southbound already slow through the work zone at cottman. speeds there in the 30's i wasn't want to zoom into east falls because we're getting word that right on the east falls-nicetown border a new closure goes into place today. it's abbottsford avenue between fox and wissahickon. this is extra problematic because that's where you go to get on the northbound side of the boulevard if you're coming away from east falls. we're going have to wait to see how they set up this construction pattern but that ramp could be closed for the next couple months in which case you would get onto the boulevard northbound from ridge avenue instead. in springfield township still have the crash along cheltenham avenue at patton road by lasalle college high school. icy conditions persist along stenton avenue at whitemarsh avenue but in souderton our crash we had been watching along broad street cleared out. however we've got construction that we're watching in woolwich township bucks county, school road now closed as of just a couple days ago indefinitely for bridge construction so sugar bottom

was medevaced over to saint christopher's hospital in philadelphia. two adults that were in the home we are told that they are in their 20's. we do not have confirmed if they are the parents of that little boy but we know that they were flown to temple university hospital. all of them had smoke inhalation. that's the extent of the condition that is we're hearing at this point. now we can't really show you where the fire is because we're all the way down the road. we're blocked from going up there. fire crews have left for now but we are on clay hill lane in fairfield township cumberland county. it was down this road that fire crews did respond around 1:30 in the morning to the fire. now we did talk to a captain from the bridgeton fire department earlier who told us about how those three people are doing. >> all three of them were talking when i talked to them before they left. so, it seems like they should be good. it's definitely a sad time around the holidays and hopefully we can get some help to help this family out. >> reporter: and the fire was in a mobile home unside of

[inaudible] >> sorry about that. we'll get back to annie when we can. more breaking news here. a gunman opened the passenger door of a running car and kills a young man sitting inside. this happened along the unit block of north 51st street in west philadelphia just after 1:00 a.m. police say the killer fired five shots at the man in his 20's and then took off. peddler's village a popular holiday shopping spot in bucks county that was damaged by fire will be opened today. viewer video shows flames shooting from the nut kettle store in the complex last night. smoke and flames spread to the adjacent saint jude's store as well as two parked cars. no injuries were reported. investigators have not yet said what sparked the fire. >> a shocking tragedy in mexico this morning. crews are digging through rubble at the country's best known fireworks market looking for survivor after explosions killed at least 29 people.

those booming sounds and massive plumes of smoke could be seen for miles. crowds shopping for their holiday celebrations ran for cover. firefighters said that they had no choice but to let the unexploded fireworks just keep going off. this is the third explosion at the market since 2005. mexican authorities are launching a federal investigation into finding out exactly what happened this time and who is responsible. >> it is now 6:36. one person was killed in a two car crash in croydon bucks county. neighbors say it is a wakeup call about the speeding problem on their street. police say a white gmc jimmy and nissan sentra were going in opposite directions when they collided on river road last night. a woman in the nissan died. the driver of the suv is being treated for multiple injuries. >> heard a big bang. it sounded like a bomb seriously it sounded like a bomb and we came running out and we seen car parts in the middle of the road here on

cedar avenue. then we ran around the corner and we seen the one car in the drive way and the other one flipped upside down. >> police believe at least one of the drivers was going above the posted 25 miles per hour speed limit. a bucks county man faces charges for trying to board a plane with his loaded .40 caliber handgun. it happened at newark international airport monday. t.s.a. officers found the weapon while x-raying the morrisville man's backpack. his name has not been released. agents say he told them he had brought his hunting nap sac with him on the trip and did not realize the gun was still inside. >> now for my favorite story of the morning. christmas came early for some deserving families in south jersey. during the midday near pottstown, there will be construction both ways on 422 so that could slow you down later on. slowdowns already on the big picture as we look at it live schuylkill westbound by city avenue just 20 miles per hour. plenty of delays on 95 southbound. 27 near cottman. same 27 as you approach the work zone at girard. but you can exit 95 onto columbus boulevard this morning. southbound lanes are opened unlike last evening the problem is it's only one lane that's opened so two lanes are still blocked and we could see delays there as the morning progresses. meanwhile want to warn you about new construction that's beginning today right on the east falls-nicetown border. they're scheduled to close down abbottsford avenue through the end of february. depending on how they set up this work it could block the ramp to the northbound boulevard he can tension. we'll keep you posted as the day progresses but new work beginning in east falls starting later on today. there's a new crash in kennett township along fareville road

at spring mill road. and don't forget about the work in bethel township delco. garnett mine road closed now for about a month. feather bed lane or falk road gets you around it. getting ready for a bridge opening. it's the burlington bristol bbb going up in just about 15 minutes. start heading for that turnpike connector as an alternate. matt. >> thank you matt. police in portland oregon made an arrest in the road rage shooting of an eight-year-old girl. witness say 32-year-old joshua constantine was driving aggressively along an interstate and nearly ran several cars off the road including one carrying three children. the driver of that vehicle pulled over her vehicle to call police on her phone they say constantine fired a gun shot. that pierced the car door and hit the eight-year-old through her shoe. she suffered a graze wound. police later followed constantine's van into a parking lot and placed him under arrest. >> four suspected burglars were spooked when they bust flood a house and came face to face way florida girl. 11-year-old ashley says she was home by herself when they
