>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's league news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪ >> good morning. it's 6:00 a.m. on this tuesday january 17th. matt o'donnell is off. nydia han is joining us. >> we're following breaking news. a fight between a philadelphia bar manager and a guard turned deadly overnight. >> also developing police are trying to figure out who shot a man outside of a southwest philadelphia bar and restaurant. >> more local congress members are joining the growing boycott of friday's presidential inauguration. >> but first up let's talk about a little rain coming our way with karen rogers. she's in for dave murphy and matt pelman is helping you get to work and school. good morning. >> good morning. i've got the umbrella handy. first drizzle drop or two starting right now. but i want to show you what's happening right now with the lehigh valley. the national weather service continues the freezing rain advisory until 10 o'clock there until 7 o'clock right now for the poconos and that's

because of icy spots and on storm tracker6 we can see near quakertown it's just rain. it's dry in reading but in some spots north of that you are seeing the chance for a little bit of freezing rain as you can tell with that area of blue. we're worried about this spreading a little farther down to the south as the morning progresses. showers though are down in delaware and south jersey where you've got a wet start to the day right there and it's going to be dreary today. satellite6 and action radar slowing lots of clouds. this first batch of showers moving through but certainly more rain beyond that and we're going to continue to see periods of rain today. it's 34 in quakertown and pottstown. 39 in center city. it is mildly in philadelphia and south jersey. 36 in hammonton. 40 on the boardwalk and 39 in dover, delaware. here's a look at the day ahead. by 7:00 a.m., 39. by lunchtime, 42. lots of clouds. just enough showers in the morning to make it feel damp and kind of dreary. it looks like the heavier rain comes later in the afternoon and evening. at 3 o'clock, 45 and it's raining pretty good. at 5 o'clock, 44. at 7 o'clock, tapering off and

44 degrees. so, watching for periods of rain today. a high of 45. i'll be inside in a minute and we'll talk about a real warmup in the seven day. matt. >> sounds like kind of a gray day karen. i decided to dress appropriately. good morning to you. good morning, everybody. still dry at this point if you're driving in on the schuylkill expressway. this is the scene by the roosevelt boulevard and if you're going exit for route one, watch out, there's a broken down vehicle here but it's on the shoulder. out of the lanes. jut got the make sure you stay in your lane and you should be fine. no eastbound delays yet as you head towards center city. this is a live look in center city along the vine street expressway, 676. little bit of westbound slowing approaching the schuylkill, just the morning volume building in. overall though not too bad on the vine or on 95, roosevelt boulevard also looks good so far this morning. but as karen said, we do have that rain, some of it coming up from the south. we've been watching wet conditions in texas hoe on the cape may county-atlantic county border. this is 50 at 49 as you head toward the river bridge.

so far we're moving okay despite damp conditions. live look in camden county here in bellmawr 42 a route a lot of you take in the morning and we're seeing northbound headlights. a gathering crowd headed toward 295 but so far it's not jammed and just slightly damp here. one last live look in franklin township gloucester county. this is route 47 delsea drive at route 40 harding highway. a little bit damp out here as well but light traffic so far on this tuesday morning, tam. >> all right, thank you, matt. and breaking this morning a fight between a manager and a guard had been simmering at a germantown bar and overnight it finally erupted with deadly results. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at police headquarters with more on their investigation. good morning, katherineism good morning, tam. police said there had been a fight simmering between the bar manager an security guard and last night it spilled over. now the bar manager is dead and the security guard is here being interviewed by homicide detectives at police headquarters. let's go to video from last night in germantown where

police were on the scene investigating this fatal shooting at sharon's little spot on the 5600 block of boyer street. this happened just before 11:00 p.m. in a back room of the bar. it was in a room for employees only. there are no security cameras in that room. both men were working at the time. the 44-year-old bar manager and the 28-year-old armed uniformed security guard. police say a verbal altercation escalated and turned physical. the guard told police the bar manager came at him with a bottle and hit him on the head. then the guard opened fire he said shooting the bar manager three times. police say he was shot twice in his torso, once in the leg. he was conscious and talking when police and medics arrived but the bar manager was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:22 p.m. >> we're not certain at this time what the argument and the altercation was about with that 28-year-old security guard is in police custody.

>> reporter: and police say that security guard remained on the scene as police were called and then he was taken into custody and transported here to police headquarters. there was also a bartender and there was customer inside the bar at the time last night that this all happened. they were also taken here to police headquarters to be interviewed. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> all right, thank you, katherine. also developing police are investigating a shooting outside of a bar and restaurant in southwest philadelphia. the action cam was outside the blue nile fall. investigators say a 33-year-old man was lit and wounded a couple times late last night. he's in stable condition this morning. >> three philadelphia congressmen are joining the long list of democrats boycotting the inauguration of president-elect donald trump. democrats beebreads dwight evans and brendan boyle are not going to the swearing in on friday. that makes 35 democrats in congress not attending. they're upset over several things including trump's

tweets criticizing democratic congressman and civil rights icon john lewis. those tweets started after lewis said trump is an illegitimate president-electd with help from russia. >> whether john lewis started it or not, all -- mr. trump should have said, let's talk, you know, let me listen, to what are your issues. >> my advice would be to president-elect trump is first put away the tweets. understand that we're all adults. we got to work together to make a difference. >> new jersey congressman donald norcross and delaware senator chris coons are planning to the a tend the inauguration. be sure to stay with "action news" for continuing coverage. our live reports begin tomorrow. anchors brian taff and sharrie williams will bring you all the happenings in washington, d.c. leading up to and including the big event. >> 6:06. new this morning a judge is ordering penn state's former president to refile his defamation lawsuit. the order is related to graham spanier's suit against former fbi director louie freeh. spanier accuses freeh's report

of making him a scapegoat for how penn state handled the jerry sandusky child sexual abuse scandal. the judge says spanier's suit has too much filler and needs to be refiled with just the core argument about how freeh defamed him. spanier is also facing criminal charges. >> an american automaker criticized for building vehicles in mexico is about to make a big announcement about its facilities here in the u.s. erin said in for maribel aber live in the nasdaq in times square. good morning, erin. good morning, nydia. general motor center city adding more than 1,000 jobs in the u.s. now, gm was criticized by president-elect donald trump for making cars in mexico as opposed to the u.s. the jobs were set to be part of a 1 billion-dollar investment into gm facilities in the u.s. the report came by sources who shared the plans with c nbc. gm has declined to comment on the report. a mixed session for stocks on friday with the dow dropping slightly while the s & p and nasdaq crept higher. right now futures point a

lower open. we got a full lineup of economic reports due out this week including the home builders index scheduled for wednesday. tam and nydia, back to you guys. >> all right. >> thank you. >> thank you. let's talk a little bit about today. mild at least. >> yeah, at least we've got that going for us. >> right. >> we're going have periods of rain, it's dreary to start you off. it gets a little heavier in the afternoon but the concern is for the areas in the north and west i'm want to show you what it looks like on storm tracker6 live double scan. we have rain moving through the area right now with that wider view. certainly down to the south but it's up to our northern region that we're a little more concerned. i want to go in closer and slow you what it looks like with double scan because we are picking up some areas of blue. you see that near hazelton along i-81. we saw a little bit of that near pottsville and hamburg a minute ago along i-78, along route 100 in quakertown it's just showers as temperatures are below freezing but some of the freezing rain as you go farther up to the higher elevations in the north. now as we look down to the south we're going to see that we have some showers you'll be

driving through in delaware and south jersey, picking up a little good shower in fortescue an area of yellow showing it's coming down a little moral right near route 47, sea isle city atlantic city mays landing hammonton along route 30 it's wet. let's take a look at the temperatures around the region and what we can expect and this freezing rain advisory is the concern for the lehigh valley until 10 o'clock this morning and the poconos until 7 o'clock this evening. the concern is for the icing and it may make it a little bit slick on the ground and whether you're getting snow, sleet or rain really depends on the depth of the warmer layers. we have a warm front moving through. it's warmer in the upper layers of the atmosphere. you have to go down to the surface or about 2,000 feet to get that cold air. that's why in some of the rural areas to the north and west in the elevated areas it's coming down as rain but adhering to some of the slick surfaces and that's the concern through the morning hours. let's take a look at satellite6 and action radar. we can see at first it's just some light showers that are moving through. the heavier rain is out to the

west with this warm front lifting through. here is the area of low pressure well out into the midwest. as this drags up to the north and east, it's going to pull in some milder air. we're seeing temperatures above average but we're getting periods of rain today. future tracker six showing us at 1:30 in the afternoon, this model picking up some heavier rain in the afternoon and evening so the first part of the day it's damp and dreary with some showers. and then at 1:30 it starts to pick up a little bit. we advance this to 4:30 as kids are coming home from school or as people are driving around in the evening for the evening commute, that's probably the heaviest of rain and you can see some adversary yellow showing it will be coming down pretty good at times and then later tonight the cold front drags through. 11 o'clock we're still getting a few showers here or there. let's show you the highs around the region today. wee we'll hit 45 in the city. but up in the higher elevations near the mountains, 39 in allentown, just 40 in reading, 46 will be the high in wilmington, 50 towards the south near dover along the coastline the upper 40's for your high today so temperatures well above the average high of 40.

tomorrow things change for us. association the front shifts off and the difference between the high and low pressures makes kind of a wind tunnel effect through the region and that's why we're going to see the winds gusting from the northwest 12 to 20 miles an hour. it's also going to help dry things out for you and feel a little better. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. today periods of rain, 45 degrees for your high. watching for the concern for some light icing north and west this morning. tomorrow may start off with some fog as warmer air moves through and then milder conditions, 52 for your high. we get that pacific air mass and you're going to feel the difference with that temperature jumping up there on thursday partly sunny skies also holding at 52. friday we're looking mild again but afternoon and evening rain as a weak disturbance moves in from the south, some rain in the evening hours, 51 for your high. could linger for early saturday morning. otherwise clouds and some sunshine and 51. sunday mostly cloudy skies, the temperature dips to 49. then another area of low pressure moves through the region on monday with periods of rain and a high of 52.

do have a fire location that we're watching this morning. it's along elm near popular there. i think stay up on spring nail or washington to get around those fire crews on the scene of the blaze. meanwhile on the big picture just starting to see a few slow speeds along 95 southbound side between the betsy ross bridge and girard we're now traveling in the 30's. let's warn you about some work zones later today spots where you'll probably be slow during the mid day. roosevelt boulevard extension headed toward the schuylkill they'll be working. they'll also be out and about along city avenue in overbrook again in both directions so we expect delays there. and from 9:00 until 3:00 today and tomorrow they're installing a gas main in hatboro so restrictions along warminster road. i think jacksonville road or york road, 263 would be better bets and each day this week in west goshen just north of west chester they're working along route 100 pottstown pike so the flaggers will be out there. i would avoid it. use phoenixville pike instead. the rest of the days this week in nether providence delco

we've got work that's going to close wallingford avenue for water main installation. woodward and possum hollow gets you around that and in woodbury again today starting in just about 45 minutes cooper will be blocked at evergreen. red bank and broad are your alternates there. tam. >> all right, thank you, matt. overnight turkey confirmed that a man wanted for a nightclub attack is under arrest and they say he's confessed. police say his fingerprints match those that were lifted from the crime scene in turkey on new year's day. the man is an uzbeki national. authorities believe he's part of an isis cell. 39 people died in this attack an delaware man jason raak was there during the attack but survived. >> nearly three years after malaysia airlines flight 370 went missing the search has been suspended. the announcement comes after crews finish the sweep of the 46,000 square mile search zone west of australia. the boeing 777 disappeared while on a flight from kuala

>> on health check this morning a strain of drug resistant super bugs may be spreading more widely than previously thought. that's according to a study published yesterday in the proceedings of the national academy of sciences. the super bug is known as cre and it tends to spread in hospitals and long term care facilities. the study suggests cre

problems just yet. we're looking at this right now in allentown and temperatures still mostly above freezing and in quakertown and flemington but you have to go well up to the north up near the poconos where you are seeing some of that area of blue so you're watch energy right now north of i-78 at this point. let's show you the temperatures around the region. it's 33 in quakertown, 33 in pottstown, and we do expect some of these numbers could drop towards dawn especially when you consider some of the higher elevated rural areas in between the reporting sites here. but it's already 39 degrees in center city. in south jersey it's 35 in hammonton 39 in dover, delaware and we had some showers right along the coastline that continue to push off and you can kind of see that here with satellite6 and action radar. lots of clouds, some showers in south jersey, a little bit of drizzle right now in the lehigh valley but the real rain is out to the west. so, the first half of the day is just going to be kind of damp. the second half the rain is going to pick up a little bit. by 7:00 a.m. it's 39. noon up to 42 in philadelphia,

still damp and then i'd say from 1 o'clock on through we're going see some heavier periods of rain at 3 o'clock it's 45 degrees. that's your high today. and at 5:00 and 7:00 you're holding in the low 40's. we do warm up tomorrow. we dry out a little bit, too. details on that in that seven day coming up in minute matt. >> okey-doke karen. it's that special time in the morning when things start happening on the roads unfortunately like a vehicle flipped over here in that plymouth meeting. this is the blue route 476 northbound side approaching the mid-county toll plaza. overturned vehicle is right there. we've got a few tow trucks on the scene so hopefully they get it uprighted and towed away before too long but for now there are restrictions as you head northbound towards the e-z pass lanes in particular here along the blue route in plymouth meeting. there's our overturned vehicle right there northbound side of 476 this morning. some delays as you come north of conshohocken. in conshohocken there's a fire location to watch out for along elm near popular there. stay up on spring mill or down on washington to get around

that. and in skippack township a crash to avoid this morning along bridge road, that's 113 at mensch road much i think cressman or collegeville roads would be better bets. camera time again. this is center city westbound side of the vine stacking pretty substantially as you head toward the schuylkill expressway and 30th street station. just volume here but there is volume by now. also some volume on 95 as you come southbound with speeds in the 20's and teens from cottman on into girard. and it's a little bit damp in south jersey and now busy as well here on 42 northbound from past the black horse pike on up to 295. tam. >> all right, thank you, matt. and we are following breaking news. a bar manager and his security guard had a long running beef and last night things got physical and then they turned deadly. the bar manager is now dead. announced a new crime fighting plan. shots rang out at seventh and market at around 12:30 this morning and left a man clinging to life. bullets also shattered the windows of several businesses. police are still searching for the shooter and a motive. now to more on wilmington's new crime fighting plan. the city's new mayor mike purzycki rolled it out. it broadens police foot patrols and community outreach in the city's highest crime neighborhoods. the oath. >> let's talk a little bit about your tuesday weather. karen has got that. >> going to need the umbrella today and it's going to be kind of dreary for much of the seven day period. let's start you off with storm tracker6 live double scan. we see some showers in south jersey and up to the north as well. let's go in a little closer to this because with double scan we can detect some areas of blue. we had some freezing rain but it's well up near i80 lake marm knee and mount pocono. in allentown we're still seeing above freezing temperatures and it's coming down as just rain there. as you go a little farther to the south as we look in philadelphia region we're seeing nothing more than a little sprinkle. that's near norristown and some showers that have been exiting the coastline after leaving you wet in south jersey and delaware. let's go on outside right now and show you what it looks like and we're out live looking at city hall and we see people out and about, not terribly bundled today as temperatures are -- will be above average later on this afternoon. the current temperature in the city is 39. the dewpoint 30. lots of moisture in the atmosphere.

barometric pressure is falling winds are pretty light and the ocean temperature is 40. satellite6 and action radar slowing that we're starting to see just some light drizzle and showers move through the area now. the heavier rains out here to the west as we widen out you get a better view of that. here's the area of low pressure. that's that same big one that brought all the ice storms out to the plains. as this low drags up to the north and east it draws some milder air in our region. you'll see temperatures rise. we'll all see periods of rain through the day today. let's show you what it looks like on future tracker. the first half of the day is just enough to be damp a little dreary. once you hit about 1:30 this afternoon starts to pick up a little bit and some showers moving through. certainly more so about 4 o'clock people coming home from school and it will be rather wet on the roads. we advance this to their evening hours. even at 11:30 the last shower is coming through but the heaviest of it looks to be or the steadiest late afternoon early evening. so here's your hour by hour forecast. at 8:00 a.m. it's 39. lots of clouds. maybe a shower. by 10:00 a.m., 43.

still not a lot of rain. by lunchtime 42 and it's kind of at our doorstep by then. i think the heavier rain comes maybe 1 o'clock or so. by 3 o'clock it's raining pretty good at times, 45. and by 6 o'clock, 44 degrees. so, periods of rain on and off. tomorrow we dry things out a little bit. we get a northwesterly breeze. 12 to 20 miles an hour. so, that will dry you out. we're going to start off with clouds, though. 52 degrees for your high temperature so we're at least above average. let's take a look at your seven day starting with today. periods of rain, still the concern for some icing in the lehigh valley and the poconos, 45 for your high. tomorrow may start off a little foggy, clouds, may have an early shower but it looks that most of the day is dry. it's just milder and 52. lots of clouds linger, though. thursday partly sunny skies, 52. i think thursday's the best day of the week. you're dry. you get at least some sunshine mixing with the clouds. friday is mild but we get rain again in the afternoon and evening, 51 for your high. saturday may start off a little damp. then some sunshine mixed with the clouds, 51.

>> let's head over to matt pelman see what it's looking like out here. if you're heading out for the commute. good morning. >> starting to look a little damp in spots. you know how well that usually goes tam and nydia. we have some issues out there and it's still dry here in plymouth meeting. nonetheless a vehicle flipped over in the northbound lanes of 476 the blue route. there's not much left of the accident now luckily. they towed away the vehicle and there's the penndot crew. looks like they're getting ready to pull away as well. so for a time the e-z pass lanes were blocked here northbound approaching the mid-county tolls. looks like they're blocked no longer. traffic getting by without too much slowing, just a little sluggishness north of conshohocken. now elsewhere on 476 the northeast extension, there was a truck accident southbound approaching the lansdale interchange. sounds like the truck involved didn't even stop. not sure that he knew that he hit somebody.

but southbound the vehicle involved otherwise is off to the side. so you're getting by, no big delay there on the southbound side of 476. we're seeing a little bit of slowing along 422 westbound through pottstown. making me think they may have started that construction early today. i have been telling you they'll be working 7::phil 2:00 through the westbound lanes. already slow so i think 33 may have set up a pattern a little bit earlier. skippack township crash along 113 bridge road at mensch road by swirls and nibble which i think is an ice cream place. kind of an interesting name. cressman road or collegeville road would be some alternates. in conshohocken still have the fire location along elm street. i think spring mill or washington would be better bets. on the big picture some slowing on the schuylkill with speeds in the 30's. same on 95, 20's and teens as you come southbound from cottman into girard. nydia. >> matt, thank you. the wife of the orlando nightclub shooter is due in federal court today to answer to charges related to the
