>> good morning everyone, 6:00 a.m., thursday, april 20. we're following breaking news, firefighters have gotten control of a blaze that broke out at a lehigh valley funeral home. a man walking down the street in a philadelphia neighborhood is shot in the leg and he has no idea where the bullet came from. >> let's look at sky6 live hd the view of the commodore barry bridge. it's going to be warmer today, we could see showers. >> we're tracking some right now, let's turn to karen rogers in for david murphy and matt pellman good morning. >> reporter: starting to feel damp out here, but not drizzling just yet.

we're tracking showers north and west of philadelphia. doylestown, quakertown and allentown and gettysburg we have showers working their way through. you want to grab the umbrella for the morning commute. you'll see showers passing through. satellite and radar showing we have the clouds once again today and some showers that will be coming through especially this morning. look at the numbers, though, it's mild today. temperatures about ten degrees warmer than yesterday. 51 in quakertown. pottstown, warminster, where you're getting the showers right now. 54 in malvern. 56 in center city. in new jersey in the suburbs, 52 in browns mills, 53 in cinnaminson. 53 in hammonton, 59 in woodbine. 59 in dover, delaware. you see the winds out of the southwest today allowing the temperatures to bump up today well above average. 75 for the high. 8:00 a.m., we'll see showers around and clouds 57. by 11:00 a.m., 64, dry, by 2:00.

71 there will be breaks of sunshine here and there in the afternoon. warm high of 75 at 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., 69 degrees, couple of showers or thunderstorms late tonight and into tomorrow morning, i'll show you what it looks like on future tracker 6 coming up in just a couple of minutes. , you know how i love discussing improving situations. that's what we've got in wilmington. last time i showed you the map we were looking at single-digit speeds on 495 now we're up to 61 miles per hour indicating that the construction is out of there in the northbound lanes, we can cross it off the list which is so fulfilling. also in delaware we're watching a crash blocking the southbound lanes of 301, 299 warwick road in middletown stay local on main and broad as alternates. in south jersey there's a truck fire in burlington.

richards run block saturday. stick with 130 or neck road to get around that. we're getting used to the inner closures on the benjamin franklin parkway causing congestion yesterday and we expect it today. not bad on the vine or i-95 or the boulevard. we have a crash in the westbound lanes of the schuylkill expressway close to the conshohocken curve. all that is left is the police officer on the shoulder. westbound is sluggish, but both lanes are open on this thursday morning. >> breaking right now, a persistent fire at a funeral home in the lehigh valley. fire crews are having a tough time putting it out for good. jennifer joyce is live at east main street and route 100 in macungie. jennette? >> reporter: well, minutes ago they were able to get control of this, i asked a gentleman here if they were done, he said we are far from done we're still working on the fire. there are still stubborn hot

spots they are working on. it's centered on the third floor of the funeral home. the back portion of the building is residential, so they tell me they believe it started on the third floor which is an residential area. it started at 2:30 a.m. on east main street. a mixture of businesses and apartments. initially they were concerned that the fire would spread to the neighboring businesses as well as the apartments. they were able to prevent that from happening pretty early on, but again it took quite sometime to get control of this. take a listen to what the residents said. >> the flames looked like they were going up, it didn't look like they were spreading out. for a a little bit though, it was going pretty hard. >> alls i saw was the cops, they parked out in front of my house, i was like what is going

on, all of a sudden the fire trucks came. >> reporter: firefighters will be here for a little longer working on the hot spots. the cause of the fire is unknown at this point. reporting live in macungie, jennifer joyce channel 6 "action news." >> -- jeanette reyes. >> a man was shot in the leg while walking in the crescentville neighborhood. the 29-year-old victim told police he didn't see who shot him. he is in stable condition. police are checking air surveillance cameras for clues. happening today, prosecutors and defense attorneys will set the stage in camden offering up opening statements on a father accused of killing his outcome son to make it easier to be with a teen girlfriend. david creato's son brendan was found in a wooded area in 2015.

prosecutors say he killed his son because the boy was getting in the way of his relationship with his younger girlfriend. burlington county prosecutors have formally charge a pennsauken man with murder. simmons and myers approached 30-year-old eric thomas back on january 21 near east broad and library streets in burlington city. they say simmons shot and killed thomas, simmons and myers ran off. they were arrested hours later. myers was charged with aggravated assault. >> it took a jury less than three hours to find eric frein guilty of the murder of a state police corporal and attempted murder of a trooper. he was captured in the poconos after a 48-day manhunt. prosecutors plan to ask for the death penalty. >> we've been waiting for this for a long time we appreciate the work that the jury has done

have to worry about sun glare. we are worried about delays on the schuylkill expressway. they are building in the west lanes from past the boulevard through this point at city avenue out to gladwyn. at least the crash farther west of the conshohocken curve is gone. we have an accident in lawncrest somerdale avenue at pratt street. speeds are starting to drop as they always do at this hour of the morning i-95 southbound now in the 20s from cottman south to girard avenue. the vine expressway, westbound side is backing up approaching the schuylkill expressway. don't forget, the inner drive to the benjamin franklin parkway are blocked in both directions as we get ready for the nfl draft. that caused extra congestion yesterday he. we expect the same situation again today. crash in white marsh township cleared out at stenton avenue. riff arrested run will -- richas run will be blocked throughout the morning commute.

"action news" reporter, jeanette reyes is live at the scene at east main street and route 100 in macungie, how is it looking jennette? >> reporter: well, tam this was a stubborn fire of the for the last couple of hours we were talking about the firefighters trying to get a handle on this. take a live look behind me, this is a good view just a few minutes ago or about an hour ago you could see smoke coming out of the roof of the third story of this three-story building. you can see the flames firefighters were dealing with. this broke out at 2:30 a.m. we're along east main street in macungie. the front portion of the building is a funeral home. the pack portion is residential. it's kind of deceiving because the fire was coming out of the

backside where the apartments are. they believe it started on the third floor of the buildings. the images you're looking at these the back portion of the buildings. they don't know what the cause is, but again it was difficult to get a handle on it. at this point they are working on putting out the hot spots and the good news no injuries have been reported. reporting live in macungie, jen jeanette reyes channel 6 "action news." >> the trial for a camden county father charged with killing his three-year-old son gains today. a jury has been selected and owning statements are about to begin in a few hours. katherine scott is live at the camden county courthouse. >> reporter: matt, that's right, the jury has been selected. the defense has argued that d.j.creato is innocent. that his son wandered away. open statements are set to begin

for 23-year-old david d.j.creato. prosecutors believe he killed his 3-year-old son brendan because his 17-year-old girlfriend thought the child got in the way of their relationship. >> she was always fighting with me. >> reporter: the defense tried to suppress the recording telling how his then girlfriend threatened to break up with him as long as brendan was part of his life. october 13, 2015 around 6:00 a.m., a 911 call came in reporting brendan missing from his apartment in haddon township. >> i woke up he was not in the apartment. i don't know if he wandered out, the door was locked i guess he unlocked it and left. three hours later brendan's body was found cooper river park half mile from his apartment. prosecutors say that there's no way that he wandered there on

his own explaining that the bottom of his socks were clean and he was afraid of the dark. the jury will visit the scene over the weekend. opening statements will start at 9:00 a.m. "action news" will be in the courtroom to bring you all the latest developments. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." a high-speed chase and confrontation with police came to a deadly end for a man in new castle county, delaware. new castle county police say he led officers on a why would chase at 20th and market street in wilmington and crashed miles away. police shot and killed the man following a confrontation. >> nobody said anything they just got out of the car and started running behind him. >> it wasn't like 3 seconds, we heard the shots. >> at least two officers involved in the chase were taken to the hospital.

the man who was shot and killed has not been identified. police would not say if he was armed and would not say why they were initially following him. >> one person is recovering after a house fire in the at tay section of philadelphia. while battling it is flames firefighters 0 found a foot long alligator. firefighters got to the scene around 8:00 p.m. an apartment above the barber shop was on fire. s firefighters got control of the fire minutes after they arrived. >> 6:37 a.m. police released video of a brutal and disturbing beating hoping to track down the attackers. a man was leaving a restaurant and beaten unconscious. the video shows a trio approaching the victim on the 3500 block of b street walking out after getting a job applications. no words were explaingdz. the attackers knocked the 25-year-old victim to the grounds and stomped on him and robbed him.

allegheny, into center city girard avenue, typical morning stuff on the southbound side of i-95. 11 minute delays so far. schuylkill expressway, ten miles per hour westbound by city avenue. broken down vehicle eastbound side past the boulevard. it's off to the side. that's not causing an extra delay, but it's slow in that area. expect slowing along the benjamin franklin parkway with these inner drives cut down in both directions for the nfl draft. next thursday will be very interesting with the draft and the penn relay. today will be better in comparison. we have a crash along somerdale avenue at pratt street long crest. food truck pop up at bud's and maryland. we have a new crash we're watching on i-95 northbound in delaware approaching 273 it's off to the side.

in middletown, 301 southbound is reopened. that crash has cleared. >> thanks, matt. a smash and grab thief hit 7 businesses in one night in southern california. surveillance cameras captured the man kicking in a glass door at the pizzeria in studio city. he slams the cash register on the ground several times breaking it open and taking over with the money. detectives say the same man stole 4,000 to that from all the businesses. >> secretary of state rex tillerson said the white house will review the nuclear weapons agreement with iran despite announcing it is holding up its end of the 2015 agreement. trump criticized the agreement when he was a candidate. trump administration is under fire for providing misleading information about an aircraft carrier's movement. it said the u.s.s. carl vinson was heading north to the korean

peninsula. it was heading south to participate in a military exercise with the australian navy. hours after the new england patriots were at the house to celebrate there super bowl win they had to come to president trump's defense on twitter. the new york times tweeted out a picture of the patriots in the white house in 2015. at first glance looked like hardly any players showed up between the teams. the team responded the picture lacks content. 40 of the football staff were seated on the south lawn and not in the photo. several players did choose to skip the visit.
