the way but water is flowing from the middle of a southwest philadelphia street due to a water main break. >> and grab your umbrellas. rain is coming our way. you don't want to be out there on this wet day with the chance of heavy downpours without being prepared. we're timing it out for you. >> david is off, karen rogers is here along with matt pelman. good morning. >> good morning. you're starting this morning with some heavy rain in spots. it's not steady through the entire region. i want to go in a little closer with storm tracker6 live double scan and we can see the progression of this. this rain is lifting up to the north. often we would see rain move from west to east and that's not what's happening this morning as it's wrapping around this area of low pressure so in west chester you're wet, in coatesville you're wet, no the quite in downingtown but it's at your doorstep. malvern pretty dry but these showers are moving through your area but in media on the blue route you're getting a soaking. gibbstown you're drive. it already moved through your area heading right through the city at the moment. in cherry hill it's wet right along riverside on 295 and

mount holly, new jersey, you've got a soaking with in area yellow and orange. but that's lifting through here. the rest of the morning commute will be in -- we'll be in and out of the clouds and some rain but you can see that heavier rain is down to the south. the heaviest of the rain late this morning into the afternoon hours. let's show you what this is going to look like with these temperatures. it's 53 right now in philadelphia. 54 no allentown and millville. you've got a strong breeze out of the east-northeast. it's just feeling like a chilly wind, a nasty day today with periods of rain on and off. we have some rain moving through right now. you're not going to be driving through the rain the entire morning commute. you'll kind of be in and out of these periods. it looks like the wettest time period later this morning into the early afternoon. a high of 58 with that chilly wind it will feel even cooler. we'll show you what this looks like on future tracker6, try to help you time your morning and evening commutes coming up in a few minutes, matt. >> absolutely pouring right now right here by the art museum. you can really see it coming

down in the overhead lights. this is where spring garden street comes into eakins oval and this rain is probably not good news for the crews working on that monstrosity that's going to facilitate the nfl draft in the next few days but because of all the draft activity, we've got even more street closures in effect this morning. you will, however, the next two mornings, this morning and tomorrow morning be able to access the oval 24th street to vine from spring garden street and mlk drives. that will help up out a little bit but once you get in here, i expect it to be really congested because all of these streets are blocked off. new closures taking effect overnight and katherine scott is going to have more on all avenue it coming up in just a few minutes. meanwhile on the big picture it is very wet especially in southwest philadelphia where we're watching a water main break this morning. action cam is on the scene at the intersection of 58th and chester avenue. you can see the water bubbling up from the ground, the pavement is all damaged. police are on the scene but we have seen some cars trying roll through all this water and roll through the

intersection here by francis myers park. if i were you i would stay at least several blocks away. fifty-fourth and woodland would be some options to get around it. fifty-eighth and chester is the intersection here and we're hearing some of the adjacent streets like 57th and 59th are also blocked off. coming back out here, 42 at creek road overnight construction is clear. it's just soggy. but not slow yet as we kick things off on this tuesday morning, matt. >> thank you, matt. that nfl draftily is two days away and the city of philadelphia is ready to celebrate with several events planned for today as the city kicks off draft week. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live on the ben franklin parkway with the preview. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, matt. that's right, today is the community kickoff for this big week. there's been so much work going on for weeks and weeks the community has seen all of this spring up on ben franklin parkway with all the closures and the tents and the equipment and today there's time for a little fun. we'll get to that in a moment.

first i want to give you a look around the parkway. you can barely see it at this stage. the big stage of course is set up on eakins oval, the inner and outer lanes of the ben franklin parkway are closed but cross streets are opened. we are at 22nd but the inner and outer lanes are closed up to eakins oval. as work continues at star guard 10 park in society hill there's going to be some time for play. it's the nfl draft community kickoff and ron jaworski the mayor the school district superintendent and representatives from the nfl will be there. after a press conference, the nfl is going to host a flag football clinic for students from mccall elementary and middle school. i hope the weather allows but here on the parkway of course the work will continue. they're in the final stretch before the draft starts on thursday. we are live along the parkway, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. matt. >> lots of people excited. thank you katherine. our coverage continues at 6abc.com/nfl draft. we have posted a list of road

closures and transit changes for the event or you can go to our 6abc news app top get to get this and also take look at the history of the draft in philadelphia. >> it is 5:06 and new this morning, an 87-year-old man is in critical condition injured in a house fire in wilmington. the delaware state marshall is now trying to figure out what caused the fire in the first place. flames started shooting from the home just after 10 ooh. :last night on the unit block of belmont drive. firefighters were able to pull that victim out of the home. he was later taken to crozer medical center. and a fire early this morning also damaged an apartment in the city's germantown neighborhood. around 3:00 this morning flames were coming from the building on the 500 block of manheim street. no injuries were reported. and an elderly couple in west philadelphia got violent treatment from man who stalked them all the way home and then robbed them. police have now released some surveillance video. 86-year-old william ravenell says the man followed him from the store to his home near 60 and and market streets.

he says the same man then barged into his home and attacked him and his 83-year-old wife. the suspect ended up taking off with $60 worth of lottery tickets. we'll have a lot more on this coming up in a live report. >> president trump prepares to mark 100 days in office this weekend and there may be less concern this morning that the milestone cop coincide with a government shutdown. the president is backing off his demand that funding for a wall on the mexican border must be included in the funding bill needed to prevent a government shutdown. congress has to pass that bill by the end of this week before the government runs out of money on saturday. president trump says funding for the wall can be resolved later in september. the entire u.s. senate will visit the white house tomorrow to be briefed on north korea. there have been reports overnight that north korea conducted a large live fire drill that involved up to 400 artillery pieces. it happened after a u.s. submarine pulled into a south

korean port. south korea fears that the north could mark today's 85th anniversary of the korean peoples army by holding another missile test. >> let's turn to karen rogers. a lot of people wanted to start off and have some fun with the nfl draft. you say take your raincoat and umbrella. >> when the nfl starts you'll be trial but the weather is bad today. you'll need that, that's right, tam. let's take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan. we have showers moving through the area, even a period of heavier rain so let's go in a little closer through media on the blue route. that seems to be the heaviest right now. through the city right now some areas of yellow showing a good downpour on the new jersey turnpike near riverside, on 295 and in mount holly you've got some wet weather headed through right now but it's not going to rain all morning. we have another round coming in a couple hours. let's go on outside and show you what it looks like right now as sky6 looks live at philadelphia international airport and, yes, it's wet out there this morning and periods of rain through the day today. how about these numbers? it's

currently 53. temperatures aren't going very far today. staying in the 50's. the dewpoint is 51. the pressure is falling. the winds out of the northeast picking up a little bit at 14 miles an hour. the ocean temperature is 53. satellite6 and action radar showing the rounds of rain that we have moving through the area. so you have one going through right now through philadelphia and you see the heavier rain that's down to the south. that's because an area of low pressure, we've been tracking this for days, do you see the spin in the atmosphere as this area of low pressure tracks up the coast and all of this moisture heads in our region today and tonight with periods of rain. and also bringing in that easterly flow, that on-shore flow causing a coastal flood advisory tonight from 6 o'clock to midnight. you could have 40 miles an hour gusts along the coast right now with that on-shore flow and the rain. that's kind of a bad combination. so today periods of rain, a chilly wind, sustained at times at 25 miles an hour. only 58 degrees for your high and feeling even chillier than

that, kind of a raw day. future tracker6 timing this out. at i'd say sometime between 8:00 and 10:30, 11 o'clock, you start to get in steady rain building in. this is the heaviest that starts later this morning. we advance this to the afternoon hours. 2:30, 3 o'clock you'll see these periods of heavier rain with the orange and yellow meaning it's really coming down. phils game tonight at 7 o'clock there's still going to be some rain in the area. we're starting to see some breakup at that point so it could easily be delayed. we'll have to keep an eye on that and then you see some showers mixing in through the overnight and even the early morning hours tomorrow. it's a bit damp at times. but advancing to the first day of the nfl draft on thursday at 10:00 a.m., about 70 degrees, clouds and some sun through the day. 4 o'clock 79, your high will be 80. at 7 o'clock, 75. so, it is warm, it is dry. once the nfl draft starts and the penn relays on thursday. a lot happening in the city. here's your seven day. today is not a good day. getting the rain out of here

>> welcome back. you're taking a live look here, the view out over penn's landing. welcome to your tuesday morning. make sure you get out the raincoat, the rain shoes, the umbrella. it's going to be a soaker today. >> chilly one, too. matt pelman here with a look at the roads. what you got matt. >> all right, eat your wheaties. we have a couple very interesting days on tap traffic wise. it will require some patience some fortitude. we're going to get through it, right? yes. all right, more closures in effect. we will get through it. more closures in effect overnight because of the nfl draft. so, now the parkway is shut down entirely both drives in both directions. chunk of the kelly drive blocked off at fairmount on the backside of the art museum. for this morning's commute and tomorrow morning's commute you can still use the mlk west river drive and spring garden to get to 24th street and the vine street expressway. if you normally come in that way, that will be opened for the next two mornings but still a lot of closures. i think this is going to put extra traffic over on north broad street as well as ridge avenue. i think some people stay on the other side of the river, maybe go through west philadelphia so extra traffic

perhaps on belmont avenue, girard avenue, lancaster avenue, especially as we get toward the end of the week when the penn relays are going on. our other big issue in the city this morning is this. a big water main break in southwest philadelphia. this is the intersection of 58th and chester avenue. there's still water bubbling up out of the ground. police remain on the scene. we've seen some cars trying to drive through this. i don't know that i would recommend that. if you're in this area around francis myers park, i would stay at least several blocks away. fifty-fourth and woodland could be some alternates. all right, it's time now to get suburban and let's head outside and check out some of the issues in the burbs. like a closure that's happening tonight at 7 o'clock until 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. it's the new hope lambertville bridge that's going to be shut down for emergency construction. you want to stay up on 202 to get around that. and once again a day in lower merion belmont avenue is going to close by west laurel hill cemetery for midday construction. the schuylkill or route 23

would be your alternates. matt. >> thank you, matt. a prank in southwest philadelphia resulted in a 17-year-old being critically injured and his friend being placed under arrest. police say a 16-year-old went to his friend's home on the 5300 block of lindbergh boulevard yesterday morning to wake him up for school something he's done before. but yesterday police say the teen decided to point a gun at his friend's face as a joke. the 17-year-old woke up startled and smacked the gun away causing it to go off a the bullet struck his eye and then became lodged in his throat. that victim remains in the hospital. >> a quick thinking firefighter in tennessee helped to save an infant from a burning building p the fire broke out in the back stairwell in an apartment in knoxville sunday morning. a man was holding his two month old baby boy out the third floor window. >> so, i said drop him.

much, has cleared here on oxford valley road. all lanes reopened on route one the super highway in both directions. route one the roosevelt boulevard wissahickon avenue northbound is closing. long term construction starting this morning northbound side is going to be blocked possibly through mid june until the water department can wrap up their work. stay down on fox street to get around it. speaking of the water department, 13 trolley is suspended this morning between yeadon and the darby loop because of that huge water main break at 58th and chester. karen. >> storm tracker6 live double scan showing we had some rain that's moving through the city. i want to show you a closer view of what it looks like. right now we can see how it's lifting up to the north at this point so heading towards reading and allentown. it's really wet in malvern. if you're coming from malvern and west chester that rain is coming down pretty good and downingtown and coatesville it's still wet. not yet in norristown but it's about to be. so, it's basically moving

north philadelphia right now into jenkintown and willow grove and burlington county and cherry hill you're drying out but not in florence and trenton you're about to get this rain through the area. this is just round one. the other rounds will be much heavier. also philadelphia and inland sustained wind of 12 to 25 miles per hour but gusts up to 35. along the coast where we have a coastal flood advisory tonight, gusts at 40 to 45 miles an hour causing some minor coastal flooding with that on-shore flow in addition to the rain we're getting, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. a new study shows you should be focusing on your pant size perhaps more than your bmi. new study finds that people with bigger waistlines have a higher risk of dying early compared to people of a similar weight who are not as wide around the middle. in fact, people with a healthy weight who carry more body mass in their midsection could be at a greater risk than obese people who are more proportional. >> 5:22. up next in the morning buzz, the burger at a texas restaurant that is so hot you have to sign a waiver before
