freezing, we got to watch for some slipping and sliding possible. >> we do actually and sadly, i do have a graphic up, oh, good, because i hit a button wrong. anyway, we're looking at satellite and you can see there's a lot of sunshine out there and generally speaking we're in fairly good shape this morning. we are below freezing however and some of those sidewalks that didn't quite get totally deiced yesterday could have a problem as we go into the morning commute with these temperatures 26 might have some icy patches on some sidewalks here and there. more on that in a second. we're at 26 degrees, winds out of the light -- north at 3 miles per hour and here return are your numbers. everybody is below freezing. 26 in philadelphia, 25 right now in trenton and wilmington and 21 degrees in allentown, just 22 in reading. get your coat on. winds are light. here are your issues this morning. there are still some icy patches on sidewalks. some icy patches on some roads and driveways but it's overall better than yesterday.

i still want you to use caution though with those cold temperatures and the fact that not everything totally dried out yesterday. as we go through afternoon it's looking like another nice one. we'll be in the 20's through 8 o'clock but then by 10 o'clock getting up closer to the freezing mark. 36 by 12 o'clock noon and on or about 40 or so at 2 o'clock. i'm actually going to go for a high of 42 degrees this afternoon. very similar to yesterday and yesterday was actually one of those afternoons where you were outside and you were kind of like, this feels a little better. milder over the next couple days but we have rain on the way. details from accuweather coming up, karen. >> all right dave. as we take a live look outside at 95 we see construction crews set up. they're blocking the two left lanes southbound at allegheny so you'll want to watch for that slowing right now with in clearing in the process but we still see the crews out there right now so expect some slowing. we're seeing now about 31 miles per hour on i-95 southbound near allegheny. we also warned you about construction on the schuylkill expressway as we go outside live, this is the schuylkill at south street westbound traffic and you can see how

slow it is here as you head towards the vine street expressway. westbound we've got construction blocking the left lane but all westbound traffic is forced off at 30th street. you can reenter and then get back on but you see the slowing that it takes as you kind of get off and reenter there on the schuylkill expressway. we've got a problem right here, so look for this in plymouth township, 476 northbound near the mid-county toll plaza a disabled truck out here blocking the right lane so some slowing in this area but certainly not a major delay, matt and tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. breaking overnight a gunman opened fire in north philadelphia and then vanished without a trace. a 42-year-old man was shot in the back on the 400 block of west norris street around midnight. police are now taking a look at security video that shows the victim staggering and holding his side before collapsing at that location. however, officers have not found any shell casings at the scene and neighbors say they didn't hear any gunshots. the victim is in the hospital in critical condition.

and atlantic city prosecutors announce an explosive break in the case of a murdered radio host dr. james kauffman is accused of having his wife april kauffman killed in order to protect a drug ring that police say he ran with a motorcycle gang. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live in our satellite center with the full story want a tale, jeanette. >> reporter: it certainly is shocking, tam, to say the least. the atlantic county prosecutor's office making some disturbing allegations against april kauffman's husband as you mentioned his main motive they say was to keep him from going -- her rather from going to police about an alleged illicit drug operation. prosecutors allege 58-year-old dr. james kauffman was behind the may 2012 shooting death of 47-year-old april kauffman. the endocrinologist allegedly orchestrated a murder for hire plot. he enlisted the help taking gang members. kauffman and ferdinand augello

found francis mullholland paying him to carry out the crime in the kauffman lind linwood home. this murder was carried out to protect an illegal operation. his wife threatened to expose it. >> as a result of april kauffman's desire to divorce james kauffman, he was intent to rather have her killed as opposed to losing his financial empire. >> reporter: kauffman and augello are both charged with murder and racketeering. meanwhile kauffman's attorney says his client will plead not guilty. reporting live in the sat center, jeanette reyes channel6 "action news." matt. >> thank you thank you jeanette. philadelphia police officers crash while rushing a teen to

the hospital. other officers arrived and transported the 16-year-old victim to penn presbyterian medical center where he is in stable condition. neither the officers nor civilians involved in the crash were hurt. >> a busted water pipe will keep a school in camden closed for the entire week. the cold weather caused the maintenance issue at rt crane family school. if more time is needed for repairs administrators will consider whether to send students to other schools. in the meantime meals will be provided to students at other schools in the district. the philadelphia water department says this fountain of water was not the result of a frozen pipe bursting but rather a rupture from a construction mistake t a contractor pulled a service line from the water main. it is believed to -- it is not believed to have affected neighborhood service. >> a natural disaster is unfolding in southern california this morning. heavy rains unleashed mudslides that swept homes off their foundations.

it is happening in the same area of santa barbara county devastated by last month's historic wildfires. those fires stripped the vegetation from the hill sides leaving nothing to hold back all that water. at least 13 people are dead, dozens more are missing. abc's kendis gibson has the latest. >> reporter: a frantic search overnight for the missing. after heavy rain unleashed massive mudslides in southern california. >> my mom and i'm fighting with all my heart to find her. i can't focus too much on -- she's most likely dead out here. >> reporter: in montecito robert and his friend wearing wet suits and helmets looking for robert's mother. >> clawing through the mud and it's hard to hold hope when the mud is so deep, you know. but it's your mom, so what do you -- you got to just keep going. she's a grandmother. she's, yeah, my best friend and just got to keep going,

than i am but i will get my vessel back hopefully. she's still afloat. if she sinks then i lost my vessel. >> hopeful that won't happen. davis is staying in his van in monmouth county for now along with his dogs as he waits for his house boat to be chiseled out. >> at least you can see those dogs you love him. he needs all the kisses he can get. >> icy patches on sidewalks where things didn't totally melt or dry out. storm tracker6 live double scan shows us that we're dry. as we take a look outside we are looking appropriately enough at spring mountain where they are making more snow. surprised they even have to make any but well i guess if it's not snowing you make it anyway. it's cold enough for that snow to settle on the ground and be ready for all you skiers later today. 26 degrees is your current temperature. winds out of the north at 3 miles per hour. the wind chill currently making it feel like it's 26 because the winds just aren't all that strong. 26 degrees in philadelphia, 25 in wilmington and trenton, 21

in allentown and 31 down in cape may. satellite shows you how we are going to be in for plenty of sunshine to start out. it's possible that a few clouds work their way in later this afternoon but generally speaking pretty bright conditions today. and cool but like yesterday fairly comfortable in the afternoon in that we are going to get a high temperature that's way better than what we've had generally over the last couple weeks. 25 degrees by 8 o'clock. by 10 o'clock we may be struggling to get to the freezing mark. by noon 38. we'll continue to melt any ice that's reformed and probably do an even better job of drying out those sidewalks today. a high of 42 degrees. winds are going to be on the light side but we will get a fair amount of sunshine especially early and into the early afternoon. high temperatures across the region, little bit of a range. only 38 in allentown and trenton. 37 degrees for a high in reading. but 42 in philadelphia. 40 in wilmington and 43-degree readings in millville all the way down to cape may, new jersey. and then tomorrow with a frontal boundary coming at us from the west we're going to get a southerly flow that's going to bounce that high up to about 50 degrees. we will cloud up ahead of that

front and there is the chance on thursday night of a little drizzle and maybe a few showers. now, it still looks as though this is probably going to hold off until night and probably not be all that impactful all the way up until 11 o'clock. however in the overnight hours thursday all the way into friday morning you can see how we do start to filter in at least some more light showers in time for our friday morning broadcast. and then during the day there is going to be that chance of a period or two of heavy rain coming through. so, look for friday to be a wet one at times you'll get a little downpour popping in. we could wind up with one to 2 inches until this is done. it doesn't wrap up until saturday morning. as we roll into saturday morning, we're probably still looking at some showers. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast today's high is 42. bright conditions overall and not bad with that high of 42 after our cold start. and then tomorrow even milder. 50 degrees and that rain holding off until night. friday even milder with a high all the way up to 60 but it will be a rainy day as you

just saw. and then on saturday, we're going to start out with a high of 55. that will be fairly early in the period, maybe even predawn and during the day the winds pick up and we do expect temperatures to fall, so originally we were kind of going for an idea of like maybe 50 for the eagles game. we may be falling into the 40's. i would bundle up. i still think it's going to be better than a lot of january days but 55 and falling and windy and chilly for that eagles game on saturday. then on sunday we're still looking for another cold snap to arrive, 33 the high there. 28 for mlk day and 30 on tuesday and maybe a snow shower around tuesday. >> okay, thank you david. >> yeah. >> all right. well, new here on "action news" a large chunk of ice fell off a building in new york city crushing the roof of a car. witnesses say the snow and ice cascaded down the side of the 21 story building and landed on that parked car yesterday. thankfully no one was inside when this all happened. no injuries were reported. also new police say slick roadways and speed may have led to a serious school bus

crash in the san francisco bay area. surveillance video shows the collision at the top of your screen. you can see several vehicles collide. one of them crosses the center lane where it then slams into a school bus. two people were seriously hurt. the pregnant bus driver and seven kids were taken to the hospital but they're all expected to be okay. >> 4:48. karen rogers is up next with a live look at traffic plus one of the most popular voice assistants will be available in some new vehicles. >> a $1,000 wine opener. you heard me right, it will soon be on sale. we'll show you what it does for that high price coming up. >> ♪

>> ♪ >> good morning, everybody. we're looking live right now at the rothman rink. may be doing some ice skating out there today. temperatures below freezing this afternoon. not the case this afternoon. let's take a look outside. the schuylkill at south street last time i showed you this shot we saw a real jam. right now they're pacing traffic. penndot is up ahead picking up the cones reopening traffic. it was shut down on the schuylkill westbound at 30th street and you see police out there right now kind of pacing traffic, giving the construction crews a chance to clear the scene so clearing as we speak. yes, still slow on the schuylkill westbound but it will be clear in a minute at 30th street.

eastbound is already clear. we had a lane blocked there. we had some slowing on i-95 southbound with construction that was blocking the two left lanes but now we're seeing speeds pick up quite a bit. 55 miles an hour southbound near allegheny and watch for this on lincoln drive in that west mount airy. icy water on the road. it could be slick and cause issues. stick to wissahickon avenue instead, matt. >> thank you, karen. from our delaware news room governor john carney announced his support for a new bill that would give paid parental leave to state workers. it would provide 12 weeks paid leave to state workers having a baby or adopting a child. federal law provides employers to give the time off but does not mandate they be paid. >> target continues a trend of higher than expected holiday sales figures. the company reports that overall sales were up 3.4 percent in november and december and according to mastercard u.s. retail industry sales were up nearly 5 percent overall this holiday
