seen this three moon set in north america in over 150 years. it's a supermoon this morning because this is when the moon is closest in orbit to the earth its a blue moon kind of a technicality but it's the second full moon of the month but also a blood moon. we have a total lunar eclipse in the western united states. in the east you might see shading on the edge of the moon after about 10 minutes to 6:00. karen we have another round of precip coming for thursday night. details on that coming up. >> if it only happens once in a blue moon you can expects it to happen today. i know this is really hard to see but the ramp from 100 southbound to 202 southbound just reopened. that was a spot where we had that big accident with the tractor-trailer and it has since cleared so we are looking at a dark scene there but traffic is going to move through any minute now. this is 309 at mclaughlin road. an accident in montgomery county to montgomery township so a couple accidents out there this morning. on the big picture though no major issues on the blue route, schuylkill, i-95. pretty good shape right here.
5:33 am
we had a disabled vehicle in ardmore. it just cleared. traffic there is moving a little better. let's go outside live on the schuylkill expressway. this is at the vine street expressway eastbound traffic is reopened. it was shut down overnight with construction but no problems right now. watching for a slick spot or two but not seeing any major issues, schrat good to -- >> matt. >> good to hear. >> eagles coach doug pederson celebrating a milestone birthday today while holding the birds' first super bowl practice. jaime apody and ducis rodgers are in emergency rooming ton minnesota with a preview. >> reporter: good morning from minneapolis. things are about to ramp up here for the super bowl for both teams. for the eagles they'll take the practice field for the first time since arriving here in the twin cities area a couple of days ago. >> i think it will feel good for them because it will bring a sense of normalcy. they'll put on the uniform, put on the pads and go over the game plan. today is the big day for another reason. >> reporter: why? >> it's doug pederson's 50th birthday. that's right the big-five oh.
5:34 am
we reminded him of that yesterday. i asked him what he wants as a gift. >> this is what we work for. this is what we do ota's for. it's one thing to be excited to be here but we understand that it's unfinished business. >> reporter: happy birthday coach. we have two numbers we need to worry about. fifty-first birthday and 52 for sure 52 -- for super bowl lii. >> thanks guys. when the eagles won the nfc championship crowds ran out into the streets giving the city a little taste of the giant celebrations that can be expected if sunday goes our way. police commissioner richard ross says he wants you to have fun but his department is ready if things get out of hand. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live with details on the security plans. good morning, jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, tam. police will be out in full force for what we can expect on sunday night. but the police commissioner is saying he won't be using a certain slippery substance

greasing up light poles with crisco to deter climbers. commissioner ross would only say police have something slicker up their sleeves. >> we will be ready. we will be out there with a sizable contingent of officers that will be seen by most and we will make every effort to know that, you know, we are about business but we are still about the business of allowing people to celebrate as long as it's done peaceful ly. >> reporter: and we do have to pat ourselves on the back a little bit. last time a couple weeks ago when we beat the vikings there were only six areas rests all day including tailgaters. hopefully we get a repeat or fewer arrests this time around although i don't think anybody can predict what will happen come sunday night. reporting live in center city, jeanette reyes channel6 "action news." tam. >> it will be good to find out the answer to the question. we're looking to are ward to that. thank you jeanette. outer loop super bowl weekend coverage kicks off at 8:00 on friday night with our "action news" championship preview live from minneapolis and join us throughout the day

minneapolis. >> yeah. minneapolis actually has a slightly milder day today, so if you want to travel out to the super bowl today is the day to do it. after that we're talking a high of 31 or something but it's actually the mildest day. warm for them and it's going to get colder too. we're dry at least this morning aren't the winds did a pretty good job of drying out roads and sidewalks this morning. want to be a little careful if something looks wet it's certainly frozen. as we take a look outside, we have the moon, and there it is, the trifecta special moon. right now the little shading on the side that we might get later is not evident but keep your eyes on this over the next 20, 30 minutes because there's a total lunar eclipse happening on the west coast and here we might just see a little shading on the side of the moon, probably will later on this morning but right now that big moon out there closest in its orbit as it is in its entire orbit right now to the earth and also we've

got that lunar thing going on. it's the second full moon of the month, too, so a lot of special things astronomically going out there. 18 degrees is your temperature. winds northwest at 14 giving you a wind chill of four. these temperatures aren't really the whole story. everybody is pretty much in the single digit wind chill territory right now and a temperature in philadelphia at 18, just 15 in allentown and reading, 18 in millville and 22 in cape may. cold this morning. colder than it's been in a little while. sunshine a plenty to start out but then we're going to see clouds dig in as we go later into the morning especially the afternoon and it stays cold today. brisk, too, with that wind 10 to 20 miles per hour. so, temperatures 21 degrees by 8 o'clock. 26 by 10 o'clock. probably breaking into the 30's by noon and a high around 35 at 3 o'clock. but the wind chills will make it feel like it's in the teens in through here and probably the low to mid-20's later this afternoon. it's going to be cold all the way. and high temperatures across the region not much of a split really between allentown and the shore. we're at 33 degrees this afternoon in allentown, 34 in trenton and reading.

35 elsewhere on the i-95 corridor and 37's as we head down to cape may through millville. temps as we roll through the day, 35 degrees by about 2, 3 o'clock and then falling from there. tomorrow we are going to be a little bit milder. a high of 47 with a front coming in from the west. we'll have mostly cloudy skies and late in the day and evening, there is the chance of a little bit of light rain. overnight this pops in during the early morning commute, gets off the coast pretty quickly. some models are changing this over to snow right at the tail end so you might wind up early tomorrow morning seeing a little change from rain to snow. out in minneapolis 31 today but only seven tomorrow. 16 on friday. saturday some snow possible, 13 and then behind that front, sunday sunny but 7 degrees in the parking lot as our eagles fans are tailgating ahead of the super bowl. 35 degrees brisk and cold today around here. bundle up all the way. and then thursday mostly cloudy, a better high of 47 degrees with that little light rain coming in at night and extending into friday morning. friday may be a brief

changeover to snow. hey, it's ground hog day. out in punxsutawney with a little bit of rain or snow falling. 33 degrees is your high blustery and colder. still brisk and cold on saturday with a high of 35 and maybe a brief snow shower at night, probably not a big deal. sunday we are really keeping a close eye on this at this point. we are looking at cloudy skies for the most part on super bowl sunday here, a high of 39 degrees which doesn't sound too bad but there will be some rain likely developing during the day and as temperatures fall it could change over to snow and we have a little bit of a concern that roads could become slippery on sunday night, maybe before the end of the super bowl and super bowl parties. so something to keep in mind as you're making your plans. >> when we come in in the morning that's one of the two days where it's really busy traffic, like 2:00 a.m. >> yeah, yeah. >> i know what you mean. thanks, david. 5:42. police are searching for a rapist near a local college campus. the surveillance video captures the person of interest in the home invasion rape of a drexel university student. >> also, on the lookout for fakes. federal agents are helping
