>> and what's on the line. philadelphia and boston businesses are making some friendly wagers ahead of the big game. >> david and karen have been talking about the fact that minneapolis is actually warmer than we are right now. >> i know. really cold out there this morning. quite a change from yesterday. >> can i just say minneapolis is not going to be warmer than us for long. [laughter] >> lot colder out there. in fact you can dress for minneapolis weather this morning around here. we are on the way oh,, looking at sunshine on the way. additional clouds are moving in from the west. those will be a part of the story as we go through the day but the story this morning is what it feels like. right now the temperature in philadelphia has dipped to 18 degrees. we talked about this yesterday. a cold start this morning. 15 degrees in allentown and reading. 16 in trenton, 16 in wilmington, 17 in millville but with winds kicking up a little bit and you saw those flags on the parkway on our sky6 shot a moment ago this is what it feels like. the wind chill is five in philadelphia. and that's an improvement in the last half hour. five in wilmington, five in allentown, four in trenton. every now and then you get a number in the teens that pops up here like in cape may and

reading but that's just because there's a temporary relaxing of the winds. overall you can look at single digit wind chills as you head out this morning. i think in general that's the way it's going to be. as we go through the day it stays cold. 29 degrees by noon. we'll get a high of about 35 degrees around 3, 4 o'clock this afternoon before sliding back to the freezing mark by 8 o'clock and the winds are going to be running 10 to 20 miles per hour today and that's going to give you wind chills in the single digits to start out. the teens mid morning. and then mid to upper 20's in the afternoon. you'll want to bundle up in layers and extra gear all the way. took a look at the moon this morning its a lunar trifecta last visible in north america over 150 years ago, a supermoon this morning because this is the closest the moon's orbit is to the smooth also a blue moon, the second full moon of the month and a blood moon because there's a total lunar eclipse in the western u.s. and around here starting about 10 minutes ago you might see a little bit of a shading on the side of the moon so that's something to look for. anyway it looks really big and bright. we will have less big and bright conditions later today

and tomorrow, karen, in your seven-day. more on that coming up. >> people have been tweeting me their pictures of the moon. let's look outside live and check i-95 near allegheny. no problems yet. southbound traffic heading towards center city. no big delays to watch for. we've been expecting a slick spot or two with these temperatures so far below freezing but not seeing too many issues with in. just take it easy. we had a big accident involving a tractor-trailer. the trailer became unhitched the cab went into the moods. it was a mess but it's all clear in west goshen township on the ramp from route 100 to 202 southbound. in downingtown chester county this is the 30 bypass approaching route 113. no delay. that's your eastbound traffic heading towards exton coming in from coatesville you're dry today. you had that snowfall yesterday but no big issues coming in right now into chester county. on route 42, we're looking live here in bellmawr. northbound traffic headed towards the walt whitman bridge coming up from deptford or turnersville looking pretty good so far, matt and tam. >> all right, thank you, karen.

well, the eagles got their first win against the new england patriots ahead of super bowl lii. new england legarrette blunt and ron grankowski faced off at the mall of america. blount came out on top winning 33 to 13. play time is over. now it's time for the teams to get focused on sunday's showdown. it will be played in minneapolis at the u.s. bank stadium which thank goodness is indoors as the region will be dealing with subfreezing temperatures. it's a beautiful spot, a 1 billion-dollar stadium that opened in 2016 and it was built with the super bowl in mind. 73,000 fans will be able to pack into that stadium to cheer on their team. now here in philadelphia, police are getting ready their postgame security plans. police commissioner richard ross is issuing a stern early warning that vandalism assaults and destruction of property will not be tolerated. police are expecting bigger than usual crowds, even bigger than what you saw two weeks

ago when we beat the vikings so you'll see a bigger deployment of both uniformed and plainclothes officers. already metal barricades are stockpiled along street corners along broad street. this time around here's something you won't see. police say they will not be using crisco to grease those street poles. they have other plans, matt. >> that's a real disappointment isn't it? showdown has everyone in a competitive spirit it seems. in fact, the philadelphia zoo and five other zoos from both regions will be taking part in a friendly wager. losing zoo's ceo will have to dress in the winning team's jersey and clean an animal exhibit as well as donate $1,000 to a program of the winning zoo's choice. the philadelphia museum of art is also joining in on the super bowl fun. they're calling it the museum bowl and their rival with the museum of fine arts in boston. curators say you can expect good natured teasing on social media, perhaps some art inspired trash talk and here's the best part. the winning teamological get artwork loaned from the losing team for display in the victorious city. council members from bean town and the city of brotherly love will engage in a friendly food wager at reading terminal market. this afternoon eagles fans will see what philly made foods the market will

6abc. >> new this morning, an ambulance taking a patient to the hospital was involved in a crash just before 1:00 this morning. a car swiped the ambulance at the intersection of broad street and allegheny avenue in north philadelphia. the patient was taken to the hospital in another medic unit and police are questioning the driver of the car, a woman who was not injured in the crash. >> ♪ question. should you host a super bowl party? the upside you don't have to drive home, you can really whoop it up. the downside, though, may be the cost. it's something to think about. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square. i would love to go to a super bowl party thrown by maribel. i know she is a gracious hostess. i'd have a great time. let's talk about cost, maribel. >> reporter: hey, good morning, tam. well, sunday, sunday, americans will shell out big bucks for this big game on sunday even if just watching at home. average cost for hosting a super bowl partially is $207 according to a survey from personal finance web site.

a shading on the edge of the moon this morning as you get a good look at it this morning. but it's real big and real bright and closer to the earth than it is at any other time in its orbit. 15 degrees in allentown. 18 degrees in philadelphia, 17 millville. 16 in wilmington and in trenton. and your wind chills are in the single digits in most neighborhoods. little bit of light cloud cover beginning to stream in overhead but in general we're looking at some sunshine early and then the clouds will thicken up later in the morning and afternoon. lehigh valley sun to clouds today, brisk and cold, a high of 33 feeling like it's in the teens and 20's this afternoon. 36 at the shore, also brisk and cold and in philadelphia sun giving way to increasing clouds, brisk and cold, a high of 35. but wind chills making it feel like no better than about the mid-20's this afternoon. and there's that 10, 20 miles per hour wind that we're going to deal with. more clouds overnight tonight but not as harsh as the winds turn from the south drawing in slightly milder air. by the time you wake up tomorrow morning it will be about 29 degrees, not as cold

as today and then tomorrow afternoon is also milder. we'll get up to 47 as a frontal boundary pushes toward us. unfortunately we cloud up ahead that of front and there could even be some late day rain. future tracker6 showing some of this by about 5, 6 o'clock in the northern and western suburbs. and then overnighter that fills in and sweeps through the region probably over fairly early. by will mention some models are changing this over to snow on the back end so it could be that you see some snowflakes tomorrow morning but it looks like they'll be pretty quick and probably fairly low impact. we'll let you know. some models want to hold that in a little bit longer but we're going with that idea that it get out pretty quickly. if you're heading to minneapolis today is the day to travel. 31 degrees is the high today in minneapolis. by thursday you're down to seven. 16 on friday. 13 with some possible snow on saturday. behind the front on sunday for the super bowl 7 degrees in the parking lot, wind chills below zero. have fun out there and get inside that warm stadium. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 35 brisk and cold today, increasing clouds. mostly cloudy tomorrow, 47 with that late day or evening

temperatures well below freezing. as tam said temperatures are in the teens right now. not seeing too many widespread problems with people slipping or sliding. we're watching live on i-95, this is right near the welcome center here in bucks county. no extra construction. i'm seeing one truck move really slowly through the area. other than that traffic is moving okay right here on i-95 in bucks county. watch for slick spots especially the ramps, overpasses right now. construction crews out there. let's look at the big picture. overall on the blue route looking good. schuylkill no problem. i-95 near bridge street 35 miles an hour. in olde city we have closures with construction fourth street closed between market and chestnut. don't forget about that. that lasts until 7 o'clock this morning. stick to second or sixth street instead. outside live the ramp from the blue route southbound to i-95 north especially careful on the ramps for a slick spot or two. seeing it mostly off to the sides of the roads but we're watching people travel without any big deal. i was scanning the waze app and someone reporting an accident on the atlantic city expressway near winslow

township just coming in so watch for the report of that. the temperature is 18 but the wind chill right now 5 degrees in the city and in allentown, three in lancaster, four in atlantic city. it is cold out there this morning. in fact, temperatures a good 17 degrees colder than yesterday morning and then you factor in the winds and it feels even worse but hey, at least we're dry today, tam. >> yes, there is that. thank you, karen. fema is halting release of supplies to puerto rico more than four months after hurricane maria slammed into the island. fema says it plans to end food and water shipments today because private supplies are now available. it will that continue to provide assistance to agencies and organizations working in the outlying areas but some on the island believe it's too soon to end the deliveries given that a third of residents still lack electricity and in some places running water. but they will have this. utility trucks from our area are on their way to puerto rico to help try to get all the lights back on. "action news" was at peco's berwyn service center yesterday. those trucks will go first by

barge with the line men flying out in a couple of weeks. >> pennsylvania's highest court will hear an appeal on a lawsuit challenging philadelphia's year old tax on soda and other sweetened drinks. the beverage industry and business owners say the tax has cut sales and forced layoffs. mayor jim kenney argues the tax is crucial for funding universal prekindergarten education. the beverage tax took effect in january of last year. the commonwealth court upheld the tax in june. >> ♪ >> in today's tech bytes, a new instagram feature for some users. >> the app announced businesses can now schedule their posts. >> but for now it works only for photos. not videos. and only through third party vendors. >> harley davison plans to rev up its first electric motorcycle. planning to pour $50 million into the project. >> harley unveiled the concept car for the hog named project live wire in 2014. president trump's speech four and a half million tweets last night the most ever for a

to start out and probably only the mid-20's at the best of times this afternoon. and the big board at the airport shows all green aircraft, no major delays and no sign of precipitation and that includes minneapolis where it's 32 trees right -- 32 degrees right now. warmer in minneapolis than it's here currently. that will change tam. >> thank you david. eagles hit the practice field in minnesota today with just four days to go until the super bowl. quarterback nick foles is playing for his teammates and of course for all of his fans here in philadelphia but he says there's someone else who really keeps him motivated, his young daughter lily who was just born in june. >> everything. um, that's the most important thing, when i get to -- when i think about this journey and everything, i get home and i i -- i get to see her, i get to see my wife and i see her and my wife like in her, like just in her face and in her mannerisms. that's what it's about.

>> good morning out there. it's 6:30 on this wednesday, january 31st. we're already looking at february. let's go over to meteorologist, david murphy. he's got your accuweather and karen rogers has your commute. good morning. >> good morning. and if the coffee doesn't wake you up this morning, the wind chills will. >> man you step outside and you're like whoa, i know i felt this earlier this winter but it's been a little while. as we take a look at the weather center at least we'll get some sunshine. there are clouds that will be an impact probably later this morning and this afternoon but the big impact this morning is the temperature and how it feels. 18 in philadelphia, 15 allentown reading, 16 in wilmington and trenton, 70 in millville. 22 in cape may. there's a blustery wind blowing around the region and that's giving you these numbers for wind chills. feels like it's five in philadelphia, four in trenton, five in allentown and wilmington and seven in millville. a couple spots a little bit better but everybody getting a sample of this single digit wind chill profile as we go through the morning. later today, things get better

afternoon but not a lot better. looks like we'll get a high of 35 this afternoon at about 3, 4 o'clock. you can see how we climb fairly quickly out of the teens to the 20's and then we're back down to 32 by about 8 o'clock tonight and the winds will be running 10 to 20's miles per hour today and that's going to give you these wind chills. starting out in the single digits and the teens later this morning. at the best of times probably around the we had 20's in terms of your wind chill. before the sun comes up you might want to grab a quick ooh look at the moon. a lunar trifecta that hasn't been visible in the americas in 150 years. the supermoon, a blue moon an blood moon. a total lunar eclipse in the western u.s. in the east we might see a sliver of a shadow on the side of the moon until the sun comes up. we are looking at a milder day tomorrow and then some issues for the weekend karen. details coming up in the seven day. >> all right dave. we've got an accident here that's now causing big problems. they had to shut down the

atlantic city westbound. all lanes are blocked approaching women's many williamstown. watch for this accident right at exit 38. i told you about it as soon as it happened. it was just blocking a lane, now blocking all lanes. a lot of people jump on the a.c. expressway to take that to lead right into 42 and come into the city. you can't do that this morning. you're going have to stick to 73, route 30 or 322 instead so big problem with the a.c. expressway westbound being blocked. also we had an accident that was just here a second ago. it cleared right now on the ramp from business route one to one southbound here in bucks county and i've been warning you about the overpasses, the ramps, watch for slick spot or two and that was one of the places we saw an accident there just a minute ago. on the big picture, no other major issues. blue route's moving nicely. schuylkill we're starting to see a loout 36 miles an hour. this is the schuylkill at city avenue and you see that westbound traffic already pretty heavy from city avenue to gladwyne but no accidents here at least matt. >> thank you, karen. it is time to get down to business in minnesota.

so shall we? eagles coach doug pederson is celebrating a milestone birthday today while holding the birds' first super bowl practice. jaime apody and ducis rodgers are in minnesota with a preview. >> reporter: good morning from minneapolis. things are about to ramp up here for the super bowl for both teams. for the eagles, they will take the practice field for the first time since arriving here in the twin cities area a couple days ago. >> i think it will feel good for them because it will bring a sense of normalcy, to put on a uniform put on the pads. you know today is a big day for another reason. >> reporter: why. >> it's doug pederson's 50th birthday. that's right, the big five-zero. he didn't want to be reminded yesterday but i bet you i know what he wants as a gift. >> this is what we work for. this is what we go to ota's for. it's one thing to be excited to be here but we understand that it's unfinished business. >> reporter: happy birthday coach. we got two numbers we need to worry about. fifty-first birthday and super bowl lii on sunday. for jaime apody, i'm ducis

[laughter] >> reporter: you know, i kind of liked the crisco, too, but i guess it wasn't cutting it. commissioner ross wouldn't say what they're going to use to replace the crisco but he promises it will be just as effective. >> we will not let you tear up the city. >> reporter: with the super bowl almost upon us police commissioner richard ross made clear that violence and destruction of property will not be tolerated sunday night. >> clearly, assaults, destruction of property will be dealt with swiftly. i mean, we'll move in and we're going to handle those situations. we will not tolerate that

throughout this city. >> reporter: when the eagles beat the vikings two weeks ago crowds of over 10,000 people swarmed northeast philadelphia and center city. much larger numbers are expected if the eagles win the super bowl. police suggest motorists stay clear of center city because of the crowds that will swarm south broad, city hall and frankford and cottman, for example. he says massive deployments of uniformed officers and plainclothes personnel will be out at the various traditional spots but one tradition that will not be making a return is greasing up light poles with crisco to deter climbers. commissioner ross would only say police have something slicker up their sleeves. >> we will be ready. we will be out there with a sizable contingent of officers that will be seen by most and we will make every effort to know that, you know, we are about business but we are also about the business of allowing people to celebrate as long as it's done peacefully. >> reporter: and we can kind

minneapolis. we'll wrap it up with "action news" at 11:00 and sports sunday so we have got you covered all weekend right here on "action news." >> ♪ >> 6:37 and new this morning, a firefighter was injured battling a blaze on the campus of the university of delaware. smoke poured from the roof of a maintenance building on the 200 block of academy street in newark. it took nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. the injured firefighter is being treated at christiana hospital. this is video just in from a vacant house fire in southwest philadelphia. this broke out just before 4:00 a.m. on the 5000 block of florence avenue. crews concentrated their efforts on the upper floors and the roof. they stopped the flames from spreading to an adjoining home. and also new, a woman hit the windshield of a septa bus in north philadelphia. police say she stepped in front of the vehicle where you see the shattered glass on the windshield as it traveled across 23rd street and cecil b. moore avenue at midnight. the woman is in the hospital in stable condition. no one on the bus was hurt.

ice up in the eagles locker room. >> yes, it's very chilly this morning. we had a little bit of this early in the month. first eight days were pretty cold in january but it's been milder lately. we're back into the icebox as matt mentioned. storm tracker6 live double scan at least shows us that we're dry. a couple icy patches here or there but the wind did a pretty good job of drying things out overnight and the wind is still with us. there you see clouds unfortunately starting to obscure that super blue blood moon we've got this morning but in parts of the area you've gotten a shot that of this morning. you don't want to stand out there looking at it too long though because it's pretty cold. 18 degrees is your current temperature. winds out of the northwest at 12 miles per hour and the wind chill currently making it feeling like it's five. 15 degrees in allentown, reading 16, trenton and wilmington 17 in millville and 22 in cape may. satellite shows you our main body of cloud cover still out to the west and south but obviously some lower lying clouds are beginning to streak through the region. while we'll probably see some sunshine early overall, we do expect the clouds to thicken up as we go later into the

day. 35 is your high today. it will feel like the mid-20's because of the wind. 35 the high in philadelphia and wilmington 34 in trenton. not a lot different in allentown, 33 there. 37 in millville and cape may this afternoon. as we roll through the day looks like our high probably hits around 2, 3 o'clock and then we start to see those numbers slide. by 10 o'clock we're down to 28. it's not all that bad though overnight and then we get down into tomorrow and it is mild ahead of this approaching front. we'll see a high of 47 degrees tomorrow. unfortunately the clouds will get thicker and late in the day there is the chance of some rain. could happen as soon as 5 o'clock in the northern and western suburbs according to future tracker six. and then you see how this spills through overnight and it's probably off the coast pretty early on friday morning. there are some models that indicate as it begins to leave it changes over to snow on the back edge. right now we're not thinking it's going to be a lot, probably just a quick changeover but we'll keep you posted in case that changes. again that is friday morning. there's that big beautiful stadium in minneapolis, minnesota. you'll want to be indoors for

club and clements bridge road so a couple of accidents in south jersey coming in. another one here in south jersey, pennsauken township camden county, 130 northbound at route 90. in wilmington we've got a problem here limestone road at carry lane. traffic lights are out. use caution there. and let's go outside live right now on i-95 and check the roads here. i know the camera is a little shaky approaching allegheny. southbound traffic pretty heavy now. you're seeing that 22 minute ride from woodhaven to the vine right now on i-95. also a couple people reporting an accident in upper milford township on chestnut street. 5 degrees, that's what it feels like as you head outside. that's the wind chill. the temperature itself is around 18 and it's about 17 degrees colder than it was at this point yesterday. at least we're dry unlike yesterday but with temps belle well well below freezing much of the day watch for a slick spot or two. the high today only 35 today, tam. >> thank you, karen. a student at drexel university is recovering from a sexual assault. police released surveillance of the suspect.

he reportedly attacked the 22-year-old over the weekend. she was asleep inside her off campus apartment in the powelton section of the city. the victim tells police she woke up to find the heavily intoxicated stranger on top of her. she was able to run away and call police when the suspect fell asleep. a new report says a suspect accused of killing a penn student may be linked to a neo-nazi group. >> federal agents in minnesota are tackling a common problem is the super bowl and other major sporting events. they're helping fans spot counterfeits. there are some tips to make sure a jersey you are purchasing is official nfl merchandise. the tag should have a upc code with a hologram and turn the shirt inside look for loose stitching or decals that can tear away. experts say the real items just feel better and last

philadelphia police are getting ready for their post super bowl security plans. police commissioner richard ross issued a stern early warning that vandalism assaults and destruction of property will not be tolerated. >> just over the past half hour or so we've seen a bunch of accidents coming in. this is one of them, the schuylkill expressway, the left lane is blocked at university because of an accident that's really jamming you up. in wynnefield township camden county we've got an accident on the a.c. expressway. it was closing it for awhile westbound approaching williamstown. now just blocking the left lane but still really slow. an accident in pennsauken on 130 northbound at the betsy ross bridge. another one on 42 near route 40 dave whole binge of accidents. >> had a really good view of that super blue blood moon on sky6 about 45 minutes ago. some of you are still seeing it but we're seeing clouds beginning to reach into the region. today's high just 35 degrees. right now we have temperatures in the teens, wind chills in the single digits, later today still windy and wind chills in the mid-20's. obviously below average but check out that low. the low is above average and
