tox and see the level, what's in the system, we're not going to speculate. >> police confirmed one of houston's staff members found her body under water in a bathtub. authorities are not yet ruling on an official cause of death. they're waiting toxicology reports which could take weeks. right now montgomery county police are asking for your help in finding a missing 8-year-old girl. detectives say london marshall got into an argument with her family and left the apartment in silver spring around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. police say the 8-year-old had on a gray button-down sweater, faded black jeans, and gray suede boots. her family says she knows how to get around on metro rail. if you see this girl, call montgomery county police. breaking news now. one person is in the hospital after being shot. this happened around 1:00 along call place in southeast washington. tracee wilkins is live on the scene with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning.

just got an update from police. they say that this person is in very bad shape here. take a look behind me. you can see d.c. police are on the scene, talking about the evidence they've been collecting in the area. they have closed off a two-block radius at call place in southeast. this all happened in the 5000 block of call place around 12:51 a.m., shots were fire department. we're told that one -- fired. we're told that one man has been taken to the hospital. i understand that he's in very bad shape. and police are searching for who's responsible for the shooting. at this point they have no official lookout, although there were initially reports of someone seen running from the scene. police say they have no official information at this point for a lookout. tracee wilkins live in southeast. news4. >> thank you. new from overnight, police are sefging a series of robberies -- investigating a series of robberies that happened in three hours. the first happened around 11:00 in friendship heights. three men held up a woman at

gunpoint along wisconsin avenue. in all there were four bank robberies -- four robberies. in two cases the suspects were armed. no one was hurt in any of the incidents. police are trying to figure if nut of the -- if any of the robberies are connected. moody's downgraded its credit ratings on italy, portugal, and spain. the agency may strip france, england, and austria of their top triple-a ratings. moody's blames the downgrade on the debt crisis. the news is not keeping the world's stock markets down. right now european stock markets are rallying. asian stock markets ended up today. right now u.s. futures are up. the world will be watching today when the vice president of china ntsb with president obama. the two will discuss economic and security issues. vice president xi jinping has said he wants to rebuild trust between the two countries. he is expected to become

president of china next year. expect more demonstrations from free tibet activists today. the group is expected to rally outside the white house around 8:30 this morning. yesterday protesters rappelled off the memorial bridge to hang a large sign. at least four people were taken into custody. two people were arrested while still dangling from the bridge. hundreds of people also rallied in lafayette park to continue the demonstration. the protests are timed with china's vice presidential visit. israel and iran are trading accusations this morning over similar bombings a month apart. monday an israeli diplomat's wife and three others were injured when a magnetic bomb exploded on their car. a similar bombing killed an iranage nuclear scientist last month. each country has blamed the other for the attacks. both attacks are part of an ongoing war between the nations, and they say we could see an increase in similar attacks. the release of a suspected

good morning and welcome back. the trial of five men accused in one of the most notorious crimes in the history of d.c. is underway. jury selection began for those charged in the so-called southeast mass shooting in washington. nine people were shot in a drive-by shooting on south capitol street in 2010. four of them died. six others were hurt in a series of violent attacks within eight days of each other. they were all connected. each of those charged face a life sentence without the possibility of parole. today the medical examiner is expected to take the stand for a second time in the george huguely murder trial. the jury has hear seen graphic photos in the case against the former uva lacrosse player. we have more at the super screen with more on what he has detailed so far. >> reporter: the medical examiner is expected to testify again today. dr. william gormley told the jury yeardley love's body was nearly covered head to toe with bruises. he said during the autopsy he discovered bruises on her chest, a bruise on her buttock that

measured nearly three inches, and a bruise on her neck so severe it caused a hemorrhage near her carrot i-- carotid artery. she had mouth abrasions and a cut on her tongue. when gormley was asked what could have caused the injuries, she'd the injuries to the mouth were consistent -- he said the injuries to the mouth were consistent with smothering. injuries were documented on huguely's body including bruises and abrasions, a laceration on his calf and knuckles reddened. the prosecution hopes it helps them prove that he broke into her apartment, beater and left for her dead. >> thank you. the trial is expected to last at least another week. jerry sandusky says he's relieved a judge is giving him perm mission to see his grandchildren as he awaits trial on child sex abuse charges. a judge ruled that sandusky can have contact with most of his

grandchildren under their parents' supervision. the judge ruled that sandusky can have a local jury hear his case. the former penn state coach will stand trial in may on 52 charges that he sexually abused young boys over a 15-year period. the members of an hiv awareness advocacy group are calling for a valentine's day boycott of hershey chocolate. it's part of a protest again the prestigious milton hershey school. the school recently denied admission to a 13-year-old honors student because he is hiv positive. that boy's family is now suing. the school cited concerns for the health and safety of the other students. this morning, a news anchor in denver is revealing some new details it her injuries when a dog bit her live on the air. kyle dyer is from the nbc affiliate there and says she needed 70 stitches in her lips and nose. on her facebook page she says that she cannot talk now because her mouth is stitched shut so blood can circulate in her lips

again. she also has a skin graft. she says she expects another procedure in the next few weeks. the dog right now is quarantined while doctors look for any possible signs of rabies. this morning, there is a desperate call for the makers of a childhood cancer drug to step up production. the drug is called methotrexate. it is used to treat a type of leukemia known as all. doctors say with the drug they can cure about 90% of patients. right now, there is only a two-week supply left in the entire country. officials believe the shortage to quality control problems at a plant in ohio. it shut down voluntarily. flu season is here. the centers for disease control said the first week in february showed an increase in positive tests. up 3% from the week before. until now cases have been at 30-year lows. widespread cases are being reported in california, and there's been an increase in virginia, as well. doctors say we still have not reached the peak of the flu season. so more cases of the virus could

still be on the way. even playing at home doesn't seem to be helping the caps win games lately. they dropped their third straight last night. the san jose sharks came to the verizon center and blasted the caps 5-3. braden holtby got the start after being called up from hershey hours before the game. all three of the caps' goals came from defense men. washington will look to get back on track friday against the division-leading florida panthers. the wildly popular "sports illustrated" swimsuit issue is hitting the stands today. you don't have to wait to see who's on the cover. 19-year-old model kate justice departmenton got the nod this -- upton got the nod to be the magazine's cover girl. she's one of 17 models appearing in the issue. someone pick up tom kierein. good morning. welcome back to "news4 today." i'm joe krebs. >> and i'm eun yang. let's take a live look outside now. it is 6:29 and 43 degrees out there. a beautiful look at the nation's capital. and much warmer than it was at this time yesterday morning. which i hope means good news. i know we're getting a little rain, but i'll take the warmer weather, tom? >> clouds like a down comfortser kept in the warmth from yesterday. we got to 50 yesterday afternoon. clouds came in just in time to hold in some of the warmth overnight. as a result, this morning temperatures are a lot milder than they were yesterday morning. right now the radar showing precipitation, snow and rain, the white areas, light snow, kentucky into ohio, indiana, farther north and east into pennsylvania. closer to our region, we've had a lot of dry air at the surface hang in overnight. so any precipitation is falling into dry air and evaporating in most areas. and temperatures right now are cold. but not as cold as yesterday. yesterday morning we were in the teens. right now in the 30s much of the region.

you're still moving. you're just moving at a low speed. i'm back in ten minutes with another look at your traffic. joe and eun? >> thank you. a northern virginia man is suing a former loudoun county sheriff's deputy over an attack caught on tape that the man says caused a brain injury. carlos garcia claims he had his hands in the air when deputy terry daniel hit him in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious. as you see, the camera of the sheriff's deputy's cruiser recorded the altercation back in 2009. garcia has since pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of battery. in court yesterday, the former deputy said that he was trying to find a lawyer and would not comment on the case. right now, montgomery county police are searching for a missing 8-year-old girl. detectives say london marshall got into an argument with her family and left their apartment on blair mill road in silver spring about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. police say the 8-year-old had on a gray button-down sweater, faded black jeans, and gray suede boots.

her family says marshall knows how to get around on metro, so she could be anywhere at this hour. if you see the girl, you're asked to call montgomery county police. the u.s. supreme court justice steven breyer is back in the united states this morning. a masked man armed with a machete robbed him and his family while they vacationed in the caribbean. authorities say it happened inside his vacation home on the island of nevis last thursday. the robber got away with about $1,000 in cash. serve jury duty and get the day off. that's the goal of a bill on the way to lawmakers in maryland's house of delegates this morning. it would make it illegal for an employer to force you to report to work on the same day you serve jury duty. opponents argue that the law would let people take an entire day off even if they were excused shortly after showing up. the bill passed the senate last night. we should learn this week the results of an ethics probe involving a maryland state senator acquitted of bribery charges. an ethics committee reached a decision on how it recommends the senate address senator

ulysses curry. the prince george's county senator was acquitted in a federal bribery case last year relating to more than declares 245,000 in payments he received from shoppers food warehouse. a maryland man was arrested for a deadly shooting outside a dupont circle restaurant. prosecutors charged 29-year-old brandon terry with second-degree murder. he's accused of shooting 34-year-old jhonte coleman outside of heritage india on connecticut avenue in northwest washington over the thanksgiving weekend. all the time the d.c. police chief shut down that restaurant. it has since reopened. this morning we're getting a look at the investigation -- the interrogation video of the woman convicted of killing her co-worker at that lululemon store in bethesda. montgomery county police released this video showing the moments detectives discovered that something was wrong with brittany norwood's story just days after jana murray's death. >> to him sexually assaulting me

wisconsin avenue. police say in all there were four robberies and one attempted robbery in northwest, and one robbery in southeast. in two of the cases, the suspects were armed. we're told no one was hurt in any of the incidents, and police are trying to figure out if any of the cases are connected. breaking news. one person is in the hospital after being shot. it happened around 1:00 along call place in southeast washington. news4's tracee wilkins is live on the scene with the very latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, joe. police are telling us that the victim in this case is in very bad shape. and that may explain why police are so intensely keeping this scene here. and they have tape that's going for about two blocks here in the 5000 block of call place in southeast. you still see police cars up there. detectives cars, as well. let me show you what it looked like earlier. they've been collecting evidence in the area. we had initial reports that someone was seen running from the scene. but police are now saying that they have no suspect lookouts. we don't have an age or

identification for this man who was in the hospital and recovering from this gunshot. it happened around 12:51 a.m. police have been on the scene ever since maintaining it. at this point they're calling this a shooting investigation. in southeast, i'm tracee wilkins, news4. >> thank you very much. today the virginia house of delegates is expected to vote on the so-called person hood bill that defines life as starting at conception. lawmakers gave preliminary approval yesterday. delegate bob marshall from prince william county is the bill's sponsor. and during the voice vote, marshall made it clear his ultimate goal is to outlaw abortion. in virginia, a controversial measure could make it easier to remove public school teachers from their jobs. it would phase out continuing contracts which are considered to be tenure. teachers and principals would move to three-year contracts and be evaluated every year. the three-year contracts would apply only to new hires, though.

virginia governor bob mcdonnell could sign a bill repealing the one handgun a month law. opponents worry about an increase in violence. those in favor of a repeal says a national system of background checks on gun buyers makes the limit unnecessary. an anti-gun group is calling for a nationwide boycott of starbucks today. the national gun victims action council is protesting starbucks' gun carrying policy. right now the coffee retailer allows residents to carry guns and assault weapons into the store if it is legal in the state. virginia is an open-carry state. and maryland is a concealed carry state. the group says the goal is to eliminate the risk of guns in public places and ultimately bring some gun laws to the united states. ratings agency moody's investor services downgraded its credit ratings on italy, portugal, and spain. the agency says it may strip france, england, and austria of

their triple-a ratings, as well. moody's blames the downgrade on the debt crisis. the news is not keeping the world's stock markets down so far. right now european stock markets are rallying. asian stock markets ended up, and right now u.s. futures are unchanged. today president obama welcomes the vice president of china. the two will discuss economic and security issues. vice president xi jinping has said he wants to help rebuild trust between the two countries. xi is expected to become president of china next year. and xi's visit is prompting free tibet activists to hold a protest outside the white house this morning. yesterday protesters rappelled off the memorial bridge to hang a sign. at least four people were taken into custody. two people were arrested while still dangling from the bridge. hundreds of people also rallied in lafayette park. apple is asking a nonprofit labor group to inspect the working conditions at some of its suppliers in china. it's apple's latest response to a growing storm over how workers are treated.

one particular supplier called foxcon has come under fire for alleged child labor and unsafe work environments. there have also been a rash of suicides at that supplier over the past year. the fair labor association will conduct the audits and post the results on line next month. meanwhile, apple stocks reached a new high. cnbc's jackie deangelis has the story and more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, eun. the good news keeps coming in for apple. its shares closed monday about $500 for the first time. the "wall street journal" reporting that verizon and at&t will sell the next generation of ipads that are going to run on 4g wireless networks. it's also rumored that the ipad 3 will be announced in the first week of march. apple is the largest company in the u.s. with a market cap value of $468 billion. and as jeremy lynn -- is jerry lynn the unlikely star of the stock market? the former harvard star who led the knicks to five consecutive wins propelled the stock to an all-time high monday. it closed at 32 spot 27.
