10's colter anstaett tells us what message the sheriff's office is now emphasizing as a result of this shooting. around 3 p-m sunday, a woman was in the driveway of her home here on hudson road in halifax county when she was hit once in the abdomen with a round from a .22 caliber rifle. the sheriff's office says that round was fired by a juvenile who lives at a neighboring property. maj. tommy spencer/halifax co. - "he was just doing some random shooting on his property. the houses were approximately 250 to 300 yards apart." the woman, whose name the sheriff's office refused to release today, was taken to duke university hospital in north carolina for treatment. major tommy spencer says the case will be presented to the commonwealth attorney and the commonwealth attorney will decide if any charges will be filed. but, major spencer said there's no telling how long it will be before the investigation is completed and the case turned over. he says this should be a

randomly shooting a gun is not a good idea. maj. tommy spencer/halifax co. - "that's certainly something we would encourage people not to do. that's not the way we would like anyone handling firearms." if you are going to be shooting a gun on your property, major spencer says try to notify anyone near by that you'll be shooting. maj. tommy spencer/halifax co - "i think that'd be a courtesy thing to do and make sure you're shooting into a safe backdrop and make sure you've got plenty of yardage even beyond that." in halifax county, colter anstaett, wsls 10. one person is without a home in roanoke following an early morning house fire. according to roanoke fire and e-m-s ... the fire started this morning just after seven in the 35-hundred block of ventnor avenue. the house has about 70- thousand dollars worth of damage. fire officials say ... the cause of the fire was electrical. no one was hurt. the red cross is helping the victim. the galax police department investigates threats made to the chestnut creek school of the arts. the threats stem from an

facebook meme meant to look like someone from the school posted it. a spokesperson says the post was not made from someone associated with the school but rather an act of retaliation after a teacher reported inappropriate posts to facebook. police are investigating. now fully staffed. as we previously reported last march ... the department lost nearly a quarter of its force to retirement or other jobs. chief todd foreman says ... the department hired eight months. he attributes the new hires to good recruitment efforts and successful job fairs. lt. todd foreman/bedfor d police department - we just had to look for the best applicants and the ones that fit best for the department and our goals and objectives. so we look for the right people the right fit chief foreman says ... it's been three years since the department was fully staffed. in news around virginia... a manhunt is underway for a suspect wanted for murder and kidnapping outside of richmond.

radford will reimburse christiansburg at one thousand dollars a month for six months. the deal comes after radford residents have been asking for pool access for more than a year. ken goodyear, radford parks and recreation - "radford does not have an indoor pool or an outdoor pool in the city of radford. christiansburg' s got a huge, beautiful new aquatic center, and obviously they're looking for all the revenue they can get out of it, and it meets a need here in radford in that it gives our residents another option for leisure activities." the deal began january 2-nd. since then.. the aquatic center has received more than 250 visits from radford residents. a new restaurant officially opens in blacksburg. zoes kitchen opened for lunch today. it was this time last year town council approved an exception to allow parking in front of the proposed building at first and main shopping center. zoes offers fresh, mediterranean food-- including soup, sandwiches and kebobs. it's the chain's third store in virginia behind lynchburg and charlottesville.

s thousands of ranger pick-up trucks due to faulty airbags. a spokesperson says driver airbags can explode with too much force. the recall covers nearly 391-thousand trucks made in the u-s and canada from 2004 to 2006. ford says it will send letters to owners in february. this comes just days after the government announced a south carolina man was killed in december when an airbag exploded. go-pro rolls out a new feature allowing users to stream video live on periscope. the "go-pro hero 4" must first be linked to an i- phone through wi-fi.

the weather and terrain were perfect for the first-time competition. british astronaut tim peake recently shared his breathtaking view of the northern lights from space. peake took the photo while on board the international space station and posted it on his facebook page last week. the light display occurs when a burst of the sun's gas and magnetic field causes a solar wind... which hits the earth's atmosphere and creates the incredible sight. peake called his view of the aurora "magical."
