a norfolk city official -- indicted on political corruption charges. his colleagues react to the shocking announcement. and the rain is moving past us now -- but more is on its way this weekend. good evening, i m beverly kidd -- and i m kurt williams -- it s been a rainy afternoon in hampton roads -- chief meteorologist patrick rockey has the latest in the live vipir forecast center - all those clouds that have been hanging around the past few days will finally bring us some wet weather this weekend. the trade off: warmer temperatures! after a few evening showers on friday, most of saturday is looking dry. expect to wake up to mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid 40s. but we will warm up into the upper 50s to around 60 in the afternoon. a few showers are possible

the bulk of the rain will be moving in late saturday night and into the first part of sunday as an area of low pressure rolls up the coast. you may even be awakened by a stray thunderstorm early sunday morning. we are not expecting a big outbreak of severe weather, but an isolated severe storm is possible. most of the wet weather will end by early afternoon on sunday. and with a gusty southwest wind ahead of an approaching cold front, expect high temperatures well into the 60s. but once that cold front crosses the region, temperatures will drop. a lot. we will wake up in the 30s on monday morning and only warm into the mid 40s in the afternoon, despite plenty of sunshine. tuesday may be a few degrees warmer in the afternoon, but then temperatures drop again. many of us may not get out of the 30s

the norfolk city treasurer and former vice- mayor has been indicted on federal political corruption charges. anthony burfoot had his initial appearance at the norfolk federal court this afternoon. newschannel 3 s kelly rule joins us live outside the court with the details. that )s right according to the indictment -- for about 6 years -- from 20-05 to 20-11 -- burfoot used his different positions in norfolk city government to benefit companies in exchange for money, car payments, and home appliances. but his attorney is saying -- those allegations are false. 20;02 anthony is in disbelief these things are totally foreign to him and again i think it s a combination of people who do not like him people who are jealous of him attorney andrew sacks is talking

his client -- norfolk city treasurer anthony burfoot. he )s accused of defrauding the citizens of norfolk during his time as norfolk city councilman, vice mayor, and treasurer. according to his indictment paperwork -- the scheme started in or around 20-05 -- when burfoot became a silent partner in tivest develompment and construction -- l-l-c. at the time he was only serving on city council. for years -- the indictment states -- burfoot was given hundreds of thousands of dollars, car payments, and home appliances from tivest managers -- in exchange for burfoot voting in favor of city ordinances that benefitted tivest. one of those projects -- the broad creek homes. the documents show that burfoot promoted tivest s interest in the project -- even though tivest was not a member in good standing with the local builder and designers guild -- which was a requirement to construct homes in the neighborhood. but sacks says -- burfoot was never a silent partner. he refers to that project -- as one of sacks ) biggest accomplishments . he speaks directly to this, i just don )t

also accused of convincing a developer to pay the mother of his children 25- thousand dollars to help pay for a condo at widgeons point. in exchange -- burfoot used his votes to open a gentlemans club downtown -- according to the indictment. but sacks -- denied all the allegations -- and said burfoot will not step down as treasurer -- because he did not do anything wrong. 22;10 we are prepared to fight everything absolutely prepared and ready to go - would you say your confident? we are very confident because anthony knows what he did and didn )t do burfoot was released today under the condition that he shows up for his next court appearance. that will be right here at norfolk federal court on january 20th. in norfolk, kelly rule, newschannel 3. newschannel three continues with live team coverage.

speaking out tonight giving different reaction to the citys treasurer. our margaret kavanagh is live with some of the responses today from norfolk city council. several i spoke to say innocent until proven guilty - others say their disappointed - meanwhile - the sheriff is asking for anthony burfoot to take a leave of absence until this legal matter is resolved. 02:15 let s put it this way anytime you re at that end of granby street near the intersection of granby and brambleton the charges are serious serious allegations. that )s what norfolk city treasurer anthony burfoot is facing. councilman andy protogyrou reacts to the federal indictment charges that many people learned of today. 58:20 the issue is a public trust are another matter. those are things that need to be looked at very closely. he and councilman barclay winn said they both feel for the treasurer. both saying everyone is innocent until proven guilty. 59:55 you have to understand that anybody that is in that position is going through a tremendous

meanwhile councilwoman williams had a harsher reaction telling me over the phone that she is disappointed and that this creates a lack of trust among the public and takes away from the good work done by public officials. much of the indictment centers around a deal with the group - tievest - a residential and commercial developer -- back in 2011 the city council voted in favor of the midtown office tower. councilman winn says he voted for the deal - and initially thought it was positive move for the city - but of three of the 8 voted against it. 58:50 three of us understood that this particular deal was not good. it didn t feel right it didn )t smell right from the beginning. the deal from that project ultimately fell apart a few days after the vote. late this afternoon we heard from mayor paul fraim. in a statement issued he said these are serious and distressing charges but as mayor and a lawyer i have learned not to speculate. my trust is in the legal process as it runs its course. live in the control

as we told you -- burfoot is accused of using his position to benefit tivest -- a construction company. the president of tivest was previously found guilty of fraud -- in connection with the broad creek project. he was sentenced to more than four years in prison. in hampton -- a officer is under arrest - michael anderson is accused of sexually assaulting a child on several occasions. they say he committed the crimes before he got his job at the department. investigators also say the crimes happened in york county in the 80 s - anderson resigned after his arrest earlier today. in norfolk right now -- police are investigating a deadly multi- vehicle accident on tidewater drive -- near eye- 64. police say a tractor trailer drove across the median onto oncoming traffic. the wreck involved six other vehicles. the driver of the tractor trailer was found dead, according to police. no word yet on the cause. those with minor injuries were taken to depaul medical center.

blocked traffic on tidewater drive from norview avenue through widgeon road. thanks to a crime line tip--- police have made an arrested in a robbery and shooting at a norfolk 7-eleven. they picked up 38-year-old kevin bristow less than an hour ago. police say bristow held up the 7-eleven on chesapeake boulevard early wednesday morning-- and shot the clerk. newschannel three showed you the surveillance video. police say after we showed that video -- someone called the crime line and that s how police made the arrest. no word if bristow is charged with the other three 7- eleven robberies that same day. new at 6... the virginia beach fire department needs your help looking for two people who set fire to some items donated to help those in need. it happened to the goodwill lynnhaven road location back on november 29th around 1-30 in the morning. as you can see in the video -- two people walked over to a pile donated goods at the back of the building -- when one of them walked away -- they other lit the pile on fire.

toward sabre street -- then north on lynnhaven road. if you know anything about this fire -- there s a number at the bottom of your screen for you to call the fire prevention bureau. it )s the first case of it s kind in virginia -- a same sex couple involved in a custody dispute involving their son. newschannel 3 s gabriella deluca is live in the newsroom with more. today s hearing was all about a simple question -- if a person is not a biological parent of a child -- are they still considered a "parent." the judge today said yes. on one side of a virginia beach court room -- lauren poole smiles -- after a judge told her something she says she )s known for years - that she )s a parent to her child. ...even though she )s not biologically related to him. on the other side -- karen poole rests her head -- knowing that she could soon share custody of the son they share. the two women are now separated. after their marriage -- karen was impregnated by a sperm donor.

today -- a judge ruled that lauren is also a parent -- meaning she can give input in custody arrangements. and -- it s now a precedent for-p&future cases. but when it comes to lauren -- she s just just relieved to finally have the "official" chance to be the parent she )s always wanted to be. the next time the two will meet in court -- they ll discuss visitation rights -- and eventually a divorce trial. live in the newsroom gabriella deluca newschannel 3. coming up - meet a 12 year old -

today rescuers tell us -- more than 600 turtles were caught in frigid waters -- unable to swim due to near hypothermia. that )s in just two days. thanks to an outpouring of support from aquarium staff, the community, and even the coast guard -- most turtles were able to make a full recovery and were released in warmer waters. a 12-year-old girl from virginia beach is dominating the world in a particular form of martial arts. she has six national titles -- and girls her age are scared to get in the ring with her.

two troopers took action when a loose dog was seen running freely on the highway in hampton. officials say they received the call just after eight this morning. when they got to interstate 6-64 and powhatan parkway-- they found this little guy on the road. the troopers were afraid the dog would be hit by a car on the busy road. they eventually grabbed and officials say the
