in portsmouth a wild night at the city council meeting-- and afterwards! the city )s sheriff pulled the mayor over after the meeting and wrote him a ticket. sheriff bill watson says he noticed a black mercedes with an expired inspection sticker. shortly after --he realized it was the mayor s. he waited until the mayor was leaving and then turned on his patrol lights. the sheriff says the mayor told him quote "sheriff get out of here." he briefly followed the mayor with his lights on. the sheriff says during that time -- he asked for police backup. the mayor did stop and the the expired sticker and the sheriff says the mayor signed it. all this - after some drama at the portsmouth council meeting. councilman bill moody says he got fined 15- hundred dollars - for a facebook post. the post had to do with a closed-session discussion about the city )s confederate monument. that discussion happened back in december.

news parks and recreation youth program-- they will operate from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the brittingham- midtown community center. new details a man involved in a seven hour standoff with norfolk police sunday night has died. it happened on land street - police say it started with a call that 58- year-old keith richardson barricaded himself in a house after a fight with his wife.. police say the standoff ended with officers firing at richardson - and richardson police officer. the officer who shot richardson is on desk duty during the investigation. a man - stabbed at a gymnasium in newport news. and thanks to some observant witnesses, officers were able to make a quick arrest. they say thomas robinson stabbed the other man just after eight a-m yesterday at the julius conn gymnasium. officers tell

argument between a female friend of robinson )s and the victim. the two were arguing - robinson reportedly walked up and stabbed the man - then ran away. witnesses helped police track him down nearby. the man who was stabbed is expected to be okay. later today: the richmond mother accused of carrying her sons body in her trunk will be in court. troopers say they pulled over tonya slaton in hampton back in june for having expired tags. they impounded her car and that )s when they found her sons-p&body inside. they were later identified as quincy david who had last been seen 11-years before. the medical examiner determined quincy jamar davis cause of death and manner of death as undetermined. police have arrested a man who they say attacked an employee at an elizabeth city motel. more layoffs are announced for a hampton roads shipyard. how many are expected to be out of a job and what the company is saying about it.

elizabeth city police arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a teenage motel clerk. aeron nicholas etheridge is charged with sex offense and first degree kidnapping. police say it all happened at the econolodge on south hughes boulevard monday night. the victim was working the front desk -- when etheridge asked her to bring soap to his room. that )s when police say he attacked her -- tying her hands with a cord -- and forcing her to

etheridge had been staying at the motel on and off since being released from jail in november on other charges. this morning he is back in the albemarle district jail. gun enthusiasts are gearing up for this weekend )s big show at the hampton roads convention center. state police say they arrested more people last year than in any other year - for trying to buy guns illegally at virginia gun shows. troopers busted more than 90 people at 75 gun shows on charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. that )s up more than 50 percent from 2014. this is video from last weekend s gun show in norfolk. the number of people denied approval through background checks at virginia gun shows who were later arrested has dropped a bit in the past two years. more layoffs could be coming to b-a-e shipyard. the company sent out a letter to more than 500 employees -- telling them they may not have

a group of hunters in north carolina is taking action to help those in need. they donated hundreds of pounds of venison to the food bank in elizabeth city. the group is called )soul hunters - theyre affiliated with fountain of life church. this is the second year for the program. this year they were able to donate about 14-hundred pounds of venison. 22:29:07 oh i was really excited because protein is a hard commodity to come by in the food bank world and for it to be such a lean healthy protein, that )s really great :18 - carolyn anderson along with helping feed people in need - it also helps farmers. according to organizers - deer cause an average of 30 million dollars
