begins with chief meteorologist patrick rockey. tracking snow....we are tracking not just one but two systems that could bring us a chance of snow. the first system moves in tonight from the west. it will be a quick shot of snow as this system moves through. some areas could see anywhere from a dusting to half inch of snow accumulations. otherwise, expect mostly cloudy skies with overnight lows in the 20s. we )re tracking a much larger system for friday and saturday that could bring us snow but also some rain. ultimately, how much snow we see will all depend on the precise track of this storm. so let )s talk about it. we )re keeping an eye on an area of low pressure that move into the area from the southwest. as this system moves into some very cold air already in place, any precipitation that develops will first fall as snow early on

then, during the day, as low pressure moves over the area, it will drive in slightly warmer temperatures, which will cause the snow to transition into rain. once the low exits the coast by saturday, colder air will wrap around the backside of the low, causing any rain to transition back to snow. the highest snowfall amounts will likely be in the richmond area. however, some areas across hampton roads and ne north carolina could see several inches of snow as well. so how much snow are we talking about friday and saturday? for the peninsulas, we could see anywhere between 4 and 6 inches of snow. however, some higher amounts are possible in those communities, ecifically the middle ninsula and the northern neck. uthside, the eastern shore and parts of north carolina could see anywhere from 2 and 4 inches of snow. the outer banks will see less snowfall potential. again, this will all depend on the precise track of this system. stay tuned. most of the wintry weather will be gone by sunday, giving way to mostly to partly cloudy skies. it will be slick though. we )ll see more sun on monday with highs in the lower 50s. now to virginia beach - where our storm team coverage continues with newschannel three s gabriella the roads will be a big
