the snow ifell in norfolk and across hampton roads tonight. de our studios downtown. more of that is on the way! good evening - i )m beverly kidd and i m kurt williams you re looking at video shot earlier this evening in virginia beach now - ! tonight we already have word of some school delays. northampton county north carolina - and gates county schools are running on a two hour delay tomorrow. you can always find school delays and closings at wtkr dot com. let s get you to chief meteorologist patrick rockey with more on what we can expect overnight and into the morning rush. tracking snow....we are tracking not just one but two systems that could bring us a chance of snow. the first system moves in tonight from the west. it will be a quick shot of snow as this system moves through. some areas could see anywhere from a dusting to half inch of snow accumulations. otherwise, expect mostly cloudy skies with overnight lows in the 20s.

much larger system for friday and saturday that some rain. ultimately, how much snow we see will all depend on the precise track of so let )s talk about it. we )re keeping an eye on an area of low pressure that move into the area from the southwest. as this system moves into some very cold air already in place, any precipitation that develops will first fall as snow early on friday. then, during the day, as low pressure moves over the area, it will drive in slightly cause the snow to transition into rain. once the low exits the coast by saturday, colder air will wrap around the backside of the low, causing any rain to transition back to snow. the highest snowfall amounts will likely be in the richmond area. however, some areas across hampton roads and ne north carolina could see several inches of snow as well. so how much snow are we talking about friday and saturday? for the peninsulas, we could see anywhere between 4 and 6 inches of snow. however, some higher amounts are possible in those communities, specifically the middle peninsula and the northern neck.

state police and cities across the region are monitoring the storms-and putting extra personnel on standby as the storms move closer. in virginia beach-- public works crews are using six thousand tons of salt and sand -- to keep the roads safe. crews started putting down the mixture at seven tonight-- they )ll go again at one am-- and once more if needed. officials tell us theyll first start on overpasses and bridges -- like the lesner. then theyll move onto primary roads like shore drive. tonight s forecast don )t look too bad and if the temp keeps going up today above freezing like they re saying it shouldn t be too bad. 28:27 you still want to use a degree of caution and have everybody ready and on their toes to go lankford says crews are playing it by ear when it comes to snow later in the week in north carolina - road crews are also preparing for winter weather. in elizabeth city and dare county - crews are putting down a special liquid solution on the roads so they

drive tonight as police investigate a suspicious package at j-e-b little creek. the call came in at five of the base. according to the f-b-i -- several different departments handled this investigation -- including virginia beach police. one person has detained for questioning. it )s not clear right now exactly what their role was in all of this. the base and shore drive reopened tonight about three hours after this all started. early in the investigation. the base tonight is operating normally. live in vb, bp nc3. in norfolk that city s treasurer went in front of a federal judge today - as he answered to corruption charges. anthony burfoot entered a not guilty plea. the federal prosecutor says there are 40 to 50 boxes of evidence against him. he )s accused of using his position as a city official to make

prosecutors say he would get cash, car payments and even appliances for helping local businessmen. some city leaders want him to step aside while the case plays out. 06:28 why should he dignify these allegations by stepping aside as if he did something wrong burfoot s lawyer says the charges are politically motivated. the 48 year old has been serving the city of norfolk since 2002 as a councilman - then a vice mayor and now as city treasurer. his trial is set to begin in may. norfolk police need your help taking action against crime: he )s wanted for two probation violations. one is connected to an indecent liberties charge from 2009. the victim was a 10- year-old girl. 21:15:25 we need to get this man off the street, this is a bad man, if he )s willing to do this with a juvenile, then he s willing to do pretty much anything, so we need to put him in jail as quickly as possible and we can only do that with the public s help right now

joyce durrant a squeeze for 70 years. now he only has to wait a few more weeks. 5:03:07 i found out that the aircraft tickets are set up on february 8th - norwood and his son steve are flying to australia for more than two weeks so that norwood can be reunited with his long lost love from world war two. 5:21:55 i am going to a world that i have never seen and meeting a woman that i havent seen in 70 years. norwood, a member of the 101st airborne division met joyce while he was stationed in england during the war - they planned to marry but the war and life afterwards kept them apart. until a simple internet search. 5:04:50 to me, to think that just the fact that this womans son contacted me and it ballooned into what it has is fantastic laughs that contact led to norwood and joyce reuniting through skype. their story

counting down the days until he can finally be reunited with joyce in person. in virginia beach im allison mechanic newschannel 3. on the military watch-- test results from drinking water at the fentress training air field in chesapeake show higher than normal levels of contamination. n-a-s oceana commanding officer lou shager made the announcement today after test results on the water came back showing two different types of p-f-c chemicals. the navy uses p-f-c s in foam used to fight fires. the e-p-a does not require action to be taken for the levels tested. but shager says the navy is taking preventive steps

officials say they )re working with the city of chesapeake and state officials to ensure the people who live outside of the base were not affected. a suspicious taco order may have been the last piece of evidence that led authorities to joaquin guzman....better known as "el chapo." that s according to a report in "the new york times." moments before police raided a home they believed belonged to the mexican drug lord... authorities say a big order of tacos got picked up two blocks away by a man driving a white van... officials say the van resembled one they thought belonged to one of joaquin guzman s associates. hours later... marines stormed the compound... then eventually found guzman on a highway heading out of town. patrick open tracking snow....we are tracking not just one but two
