schools in north carolina are all on a 2- hours delay. northampton county north carolina - gates county and perquimans schools are also running on a two hour delay. you can always find school delays and closings at wtkr dot m. we )re tracking a much larger system for friday and saturday that could bring us snow but also some rain. we re keeping an eye on an area of low pressure that move into the area from the southwest. as this system moves into some very cold air already in place, any precipitation that develops will first fall as snow early on friday. then, during the day, as low pressure moves over the area, it will drive in slightly warmer temperatures, which will cause the snow to transition into rain. once the

colder air will wrap around the backside of the low, causing any rain to transition back to snow. the highest snowfall amounts will likely be in the richmond area. however, some areas across hampton roads and ne north carolina could see several inches of snow as well. so how much snow are we talking about friday and saturday? for the peninsulas, we could see anywhere between 4 and 6 inches of snow. however, some higher amounts are possible in those communities, specifically the middle peninsula and the northern neck. southside, the eastern shore and parts of north carolina could see anywhere from 2 and 4 inches of snow. the outer

add a big machinery on the production line caught fire at the lumber liquidators headquarters. add this all happened around 12-30 at the plant in industrial park off of briarfield road. when crews arrived, heavy smoke could be seen throughout the building. it took crews several hours to clear the scene out of concerns that flames would spread to the dusk collector system throughout the building. add no one was hurt. in mathews county-- students at mathews high school will be back in school today. this comes after the building )s heating unit broke down yesterday. students were not told to come to school while contractors worked on the problems. though they could not say exactly what part of the unit was broken it is now fixed. in norfolk a person was detained for questioning by the f-b-i following a bomb threat. a suspicious package was discovered at about five last night at joint expeditionary base little creek fort story. police shut down parts of shore

drive for hours last night -- especially near gate five. the base is back to normal operations. on the military watch-- test results from drinking water at the fentress training air field in chesapeake show higher than normal levels of contamination. n-a-s oceana )s commanding officer made the announcement when test results on the water came back showing two different types of p-f-c chemicals. the navy uses p-f-c s in foam used to fight fires. the e-p-a does not require action to be taken for the levels tested. but the commanding officer says the navy is taking preventive steps until the levels are reduced. officials say they )re working with the city of chesapeake and state officials to ensure the people who live

michigan lawmakers approved emergency funding to deal with the water crisis in flint. the state house okayed 28-million dollars yesterday to help address lead contamination in the cities tap water. lead levels in the water system soared after flint switched to a new water source in 20-14. class action lawsuit claims many people later developed serious medical conditions, especially children. in suffolk people there are taking action to make sure people living in flint

todays weather looks quiet. expect a nice mix of sun and clouds with nw winds at 5 to 15 mph. temperatures will start near 30 and warm into the upper 30s this afternoon. the big focus for the week is an area of low pressure near texas today that will track over the carolinas and off of the virginia coast for friday and saturday. precipitation will build in from sw to ne starting mid-morning friday. most of us will start with snow on friday, with rain near the albemarle and outer banks. snow will transition to rain from se to nw as we head through friday. sleet could mix in at times along the transition line. rain will fall for most of saturday with the rain/snow line just east of richmond. we could see

a love story 70 years in the making is taking a major turn. in november we told you how a virginia beach world war two veteran reconnected with his girlfriend from the war through skype. well now -- the two will be reconnecting in person. newschannel 3 s allison mechanic has the exciting news. 5:13:35 that is the first thing i am going to do, im going to give her a squeeze. norwood thomas has been thinking about giving joyce durrant a squeeze for 70 years. now he only has to wait a few more weeks.

found out that the aircraft tickets are set up on february 8th - norwood and his son steve are flying to australia for more than two weeks so that norwood can be reunited with his long lost love from world war two. 5:21:55 i am going to a world that i have never seen and meeting a woman that i havent seen in 70 years. norwood, a member of the 101st airborne division met joyce while he was stationed in england during the war - they planned to marry but the war and life afterwards kept them apart. until a simple internet search. 5:04:50 to me, to think that just the fact that this womans son contacted me and it ballooned into what it has is fantastic laughs that contact led to norwood and joyce reuniting through skype. their story captivated viewers who set up a go fund me page to reconnect the two in person. and air new zeland took it a step further by offering to pay

the major airlines are preparing for the massive snowstorm that )s predicted to hit the northeast and mid-atlantic this weekend. american, southwest, and delta are among the airlines already issuing travel waivers storm. american is allowing customers traveling through nine airports in the affected areas to change flights without penalty. southwest is allowing customers from boston to washington to re-schedule if they plan to fly friday or saturday. and delta is waiving its change fee to travelers planning to fly at 19 airports between boston and washington
