john at one time and he betrayed us he took something from us that we will never get back and it was hard to see john also sentenced -- his mistress nicole houchin, who will spend 23 years and 11 months in prison. she bawled in court as she apologized to dana )s family. nicole and john hired nicole s husband , nace to beat dana to death back in 2013. he was to be paid 20 thousand dollars to kill her -- he stabbed her face, cut kff her finger, and beat her with a torque wrench now -- he will spend the next 40 years behind bars. and theres one more -- gregory crawford who nicole worked with. he was sentenced to 17 years for conspiracy to commit capital murder. 31:13 it s been a long journey but we believe everything hasolened the way it should we are completely happy with the

a woman from york county was attacked and killed with a machete while on vacation. jessica colker graduated from tabb high school in 1994 -- according to the york county school district. yesterday -- colker was walking with her husband on a beach in grenada when she was attacked. the husband was able to get away. grenada police say they have the man who attacked jessica in custody. recently -- jessica lived in atlanta and worked as a physician. right now newschannel 3 s brendan ponton is speaking with a someone who knew jessica in high school.

update on newschannel 3 at 11. heads up for students on the peninsula -- gloucester county schools will be starting two hours later tomorrow. but the possible icy patches weren t a problem for everyone. it was a gorgeous day at town center where this gentleman decided to take the dogs on a walk. it )s a lot different than the town center view we had at last week. chief meteorologist patrick rockey is live with the forecast. falling temperatures, falling rain, and maybe a little falling snow! a strong cold front is bearing down on our area. ahead of that front southwest winds have warmed many of us well into the 60s this afternoon. but that cold front will bring us a few showers on wednesday and falling temperatures. we will start off

the 30s in the afternoon. that cold front will push out into the atlantic, and an area of low pressure will develop and move along it. some forecast models bring it close enough to produce some rain on friday, possibly starting with a little bit of snow. but by the afternoon we expect clearing skies and high temperatures back in the 50s. then we will enjoy a warming trend for the weekend. expect high temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s on saturday with plenty of

for a third day -- several school systems in the area were closed. but some parents say - the roads are clear! so why weren )t kids back in school? newschannel 3 s erica greenway has more from york county. the decision to cancel school for a third day -- didn t sit well with some parents. sounding off on the school s facebook page -- one parent said it was )ridiciulous ) since the roads are clear. but others say -- that )s not the case where they live. this is what devonshire road in york county looked like around noon today -- still coated with a thick layer of snow and ice. felton mill road

covered in some spots school officials say that s why they had to cancel classes again -- in some spots the roads were just too rough for buses to travel on. they had crews out again today working to clear parking lots at schools -- and vdot had crews out with plows and salt to clear some of the neighborhoods. school officials say between that -- and the warmer temperatures - they re hopeful it )ll be safe for kids to head back to class tomorow. for now -- people who live on some of the ice- covered roads - say they )re glad the school system didn t try to send buses-p&down them today. in york county - erica greenway - newschannel 3. this is (exam week ( for many high school students. and the snow days mean a revised schedule. in newport news: thursday is now a half-day. friday is now a teacher work day.

exam schedules in york county, hampton and suffolk. you ll find the full list, city by city, on the main page of wtkr dot com. new details out of york county. we now know what caused a fire at a trailer park yesterday afternoon. officials say children were playing next to a space heater when paper they were playing with fell and caught fire. this is video from that fire yesterday. a woman had to be rescued from inside the home. she was trapped and was unconscious when a off duty firefighter and a neighbor found her. but she is expected to be okay. hampton police say calls to crime line led them to a man wanted in a carjacking earlier this month. police arrested 25-year-old james drew. investigators say about two weeks ago -- drew carjacked a man on michigan drive. that man wasnt hurt. police say your calls to the crime line helped them track down the carjacker. hes now facing several charges.

a big impact on blood and platelet donations. so much so that the american red cross is now putting out an emergency appeal! todd corillo is live in norfolk to explain. that )s right barbara- winter weather has canceled hundreds of blood drives across 20 states -- and this weekend s storm canceled even more -- putting the red cross into a tough spot during an already hard time of year. a massive winter storm that pummeled the east coast did the american red cross no favor when it comes to blood and platelet donations. across 20 states -- more than 300 blood drives have been canceled due to bad weather in january. since saturday alone --

in the mid atlantic thanks to our winter storm. that )s more than 300 donations that could save a life that went uncollected -- in virginia beach monday -- sally whitaker was doing her part to put a dent in the problem the appeal for platelet donations is especially urgent in light of the winter storm platelets can only stay on the shelf for five days. with winter far from over -- the red cross says the need is especially important right now. increase in demand for blood can also go up during severe weather events while donations go down -- to find out how you can take action - simply click over to this story on w-t-k-r dot com.
